Sure, she'll "resign", and then come back in a year or so. Totally rehabilitated and clean.

Till the next scandal.

Such a shame, a woman PM would have been wonderful....

At least they have the option of resigning with dignity left in place, but its not a big surprise or secret to any local Japanese voter that the politicians are corrupt and greedy no matter who is in control of the Diet. Politicians around the world have been greedy since the formation of big governments, this case is no different. A US congressman would not resigning for doing such a deed, that's for sure.

:

I think she will fulfill her responsibility to make a proper explanation to restore the people’s trust in politics,” Inada said

Has any Japanese politician been able to "restore the people's trust in politics"???

Obuchi, a mother of two,

Who'd have thought such a person could be deceitful!

(Psst! Most of them are deceitful!)

Inada says Obuchi must explain in full . . .

to restore the people’s trust in politics

Yes. That's most important. That the people not know how crooked their representatives are. What Obuchi did is not immoral. Getting caught, however, is 'unfortunate'.

allegations that groups backing her misused political funds, Japanese media said Sunday.

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

So far media agree that support groups misused political funds.

No one says she misused.

Daughter of the former PM, the guy who announced the name of Heisei. Was elected because her father died suddenly and she is pretty. She's from Takasaki in Gunma, where more Prime Ministers have come than anywhere else. The reason they become Prime Minister is, they want to leave Gunma so badly.

If her support groups mishandled funds then she knew about it and did nothing to stop them. She should be imprisoned along with her support groups

Japanese PMs in history. Not Gunma but Yamaguchi-ken. Abe himself has grandp and granduncle. Way back after boshin war, Takayoshi Kido (Abe is related) created new Japanese Govt and his suboordinate mace Meiji Ishin, From First PM to cuttent Abe, plenty. Too many. Gnumaa? Who are they?

Can you imagine the brouhaha there would have been if this were a DPJ politico caught with her fingers in the till?

And if you or I were caught pilfering a tenth of the amount, we'd not be given the good grace to consider our options. We'd be fired on the spot, and the police would probably be involved.

Still, you and I aren't dynastic princelings, enjoying our entitlement to the pockets of the serf classes are we?

Feudalism, I think the word is.

This article and title gives me the impression that the media is "urging" Obuchi to quit as soon as possible. Is this because they need something to feed their headlines and sell newspapers? Media's job is reporting events as they happen and once they start getting into the frenzy and pressuring someone to quit they should register as lobbyists or a political party.

I wonder why the writer felt it necessary to mention that Obuchi has two children. This is constant in the media. I don't recall ever reading "Shinzo Abe, father of zero".

Media must be eager to support Fomer Minister of Labot's "Wpmen are baby making machines" declaration. Must be trying to tell ius baby making machine should not be a minister.

ByeBye. You blew it kiddo.

They are reporting on TV that she submitted her resignation this morning.

Of course, this is just resignation from Abe's cabinet. She will still be in the government.

YA BLEW IT.

"I feel that ignorance is no excuse"

Quite right but, unfortunately, this is not the attitude taken by her colleagues who usually feign ignorance and refuse to accept responsibility when these scandals come to light.

Must be trying to tell ius baby making machine should not be a minister.

I think Japan's media are seeing Abe's female ministers his weak links to destroy Abe.
