G7 ministers meet in Japan to discuss women's empowerment

Well, what a perfect venue for such discussions. The world will be able to learn from the best how to create a society where the men say, without a hint of self consciousness, "But women want to stay home." I'm sure everyone will have lots to learn.

The result came amid Japan facing criticism from equality campaigners for what they see as the government's inaction over the low participation of women in politics and the economy.

Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, and more talk! Japanese PM's will talk some more and point to their utterly useless failures at "urges" they proposed to the government and businesses. They talked a good game, but when it came to reality or showing progress, it's all been talk is cheap!

Oh and the "result" of the survey would have been no different, criticism or otherwise!

Why would G7 nations even need gender equality ministers? These nations are already developed and equal in their actions. Such ministers and meetings are redundant.

Well, it is a discussion among G7 members so perhaps G7 members' affairs might be more prominent and there are around 27 African countries ahead of Japan anyway.

The role of the G7 is to "enforce the world follows its bidding".

How many of the women in those 27 countries would jump at the chance to have the life of a woman in Japan?

Not all but most.

There is no doubt that gender gaps or disparities must be addressed should there be any in society. The catch is: must gender equality come first before meritocracy?

I agree that women's empowerment should be promoted. However, I find it disconcerting that the comments section is always overwhelmingly male-dominated. It would be nice to hear more directly about the views of women, especially non-mainstream non-Western women, rather than always hearing the same views of the middle-aged men who regularly comment here. Perhaps their wives, daughters, and partners could comment?

Men and women are different, don't expect same outcome. Bilogically designed differently.

Meritocracy first.

Equality yes.

Same right yes.

No same level of empoweremenrt without same merit.

Yes in Japan quite a few men don't deserve their rank. But same applies for women.

And women in general don't want power. So easy to see !

Interesting that the leading G-7 nations summit for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, the chair of the meeting was Ogura the only male representative.

But...but... He IS Japanese cabinet Minister for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women, so it's only appropriate that he be chair, is the cry from the local officials.

Oh....er....right. Got it.

Coz no-one knows more about Women and their situation than a man.

Ogura was the enlightened Minister who last year wore a 7.3 kilogram pregnancy belly while going about his daily routines, in order to understand the burden on the body of carrying a child.

What more expertise is possibly needed to understand the wants of women in the 21st C.???

Why are they meeting in Japan? Japan, who fell down the gender equality gap this year to 125th place. I don't think the words "women" and "empowerment" are in any of the Japanese governments' vocabulary. All they're going to contribute to this meeting is pointless nods and half-hearted hums of vague agreement.

Come on, the other G6 members are having a laugh at Japan expense.

Gender equality has along way to go to overcome ingrained cultural issues/difficulties to put in mildly.

Shaming a nation will not make Japan society capitulate.

Women need to make there presence known in society in the workplace.

Stop wearing silly high heals, and making the tea.

Start making your mark .

Lets be frank here. some women, not all, are there worst enemies.

Hubby after work goes for a snifter or two.

Wifey works, picks up the kids from play school, does the shopping, cooks the supper.

And then has to excuse the vulgarity grunt and grind

That is not the satisfying environment that help reverse depopulation, is it?

So what do you expect from a political establishment that accepts this lunacy?
