But did they do it, or are they using this "accident" as a way for PM Hatoyama to save face and have an "excuse" to cave in on the base issue.

Will US condemning Israel's invasion on Gaza? Sure not because that matters US interests in middleeast! Here is the same, North Korea does matters to China's stragetic interests in the Korean peninsula! The collpase of the warsaw pact has shown the NATO shall carved the vacumned area for their own! Sur China shall nver let this happen if US troops walking on the otherside of Yalu river! The Kims were bandits but the US troops will be the worst! There will be no say to whoever to decide the fate of the Korean peninsula besides China!

Wen should told Hatoyama: Without the presents of US troops in asia will be alot easier to make peace in the Korean peninsula! And you failed the duty!

Someone please install a backbone into Hatoyama so he can tell the Amerikans to get lost.

So an international team that investigated the sinking, producing a NK made torpedo is not enough for anyone? Hmm, go back and think some more.

In this day and age who believes seriously that we need deterrence against North Korea? How many nukes does the U.S. or China have in comparison? Better cool down and take off the loudspeakers along the 38 the Parallel and start talks. Rather we need deterrence against war mongers.

If they can prove it then I support Japan's push to punish N Korea through multilateral measures

Great cover-up speculation. But, that's all it is. Deliberately creating a conflict with a naturally belligerent country like NKorea that causes plenty of conflicts on it's own doen't work for anyone including all the nations that participated in the Cheonan sinking investigation.

ossanAmerica... hmm, Gulf of Tonken, WMD in Iraq... all lies. Funny how the US military isn't on red alert in Korea and Okinawa. I'd say it's all bs. Where's the proof? Just some "team" of international experts saying something and any other theory is blocked from the media. What is international experts? South Korean military and US military experts? That would qualify as a team of international experts.

Seiharinokaze.. I agree, deterrence against war mongers. I'll remember that phrase. I wonder if Hillary would be so anxious to start a conflict if it was her daughter on the front lines..

Yes it IS funny. You's think that if we just engineered a reason to cause conflict wih NKOrea at the expenses of 46 SKorean sailors, we'd at least be on red alert all over. Don't you?

Alpha: Cute story, but the hypothesis consists of two things (not really facts):

the Chinese dispute the findings. Hmm, one ally of N. Korea, go figure. And the international team that looked at this had the US, South Korea, and Sweden. the Swedes are not really pro anything.

And all of this detail analysis / hypothesis is done a a news reporter. Not an expert in munitions or navy ships / maneuvers.

So tell me Alpha, Is Michael Moore a truth teller in your world? Just curious. But for anyone who likes to take conjecture and turn it into a "fact", this may read like something that is true.

Kim Jong won't be around in 10 yrs, maybe just 5. Why fight a war for 5 years killing half the Korean peninsula when we can just wait the same amount of time and get the same result with noone dead.

sicilian; Again, Gulf of Tonken and WMD in Iraq. (not really facts either) and as far as the Kita Chosen sinking Kankoku's ship, that isn't necessarily facts either. Noone knows the facts on any of these things but they are using this "incident" as an excuse to try to pressure China into putting sanctions on North Korea? What sanctions? Food aid? That would only make the poor powerless people starve even more. The military and politicians will always get their food and caviar.

NK is a bit desperate. Kim Jong "Mentally" Ill knows he can rattle the nuclear sabre and get the international community to cow tow EXCEPT the US won't follow. Those people are starving, but their military is fed with food that was meant for their starving masses.

I think the US/SK/JPN want China to at lest come to the table and say something. They have been reluctant to do so because they are the main route for anything going in. China gets a cut, and they do not want to lose that.

Could it have been a mine? Maybe, but accidental at best. Even that might be too much for the US, knowing the fall out if that were true.
