India has its own aspirations. Superpower ones.
Matt Hartwell
Indeed. I would be happy to see another democratic superpower but India has a long way to go and their options for getting there are not as open as they were 40 years ago. The low-cost manufacturing option that China took is not available now and never will be again, not with the impending robot age. There are vast opportunities in energy under climate change but China, the U.S and Europe will dominate that space. They have a big head start.
The best option for India and one that they already possess a competitive advantage in is the domination of the internet through their vast IT sector. I want to see more Indian Facebooks, Twitters and Amazons. They may even have to revert to protectionism in order to help their startups dominate India to a greater degree. That won't make the Americans or Chinese happy but that's their problem and again its likely to be a sector hit hard by automation, but its transformative potential has only just begun. I read only 300 million Indians have regular internet access at this point. The upside is therefore vast.
Its clearly their best path forward.

India have solid reasons to be wary of Amerika.
New Delhi must have deftly observed that Washington is the only da-kine country in the world that could be your business partner (China ) and friend but at the same time is openly forming an alliance against you (China) !
Heck, Narendra must be thinking like hey! If Amerika can do it to China then it could also do it to India.
History tells us that the USA is a backstabbing fella.
Just da-kine ask what Uncle Sam did to Taiwan vis a vis China!
