Another spending spree by Abe?

Not exactly a spending spree. The aid ("business opportunities") will no doubt take the form of low or zero interest loans and the money will be funneled into projects fulfilled by Japanese manufacturers. Good for Indonesia in that they will get better infrastructure but it's more about ensuring business for Japanese companies. I lol'd when I read about Jokowi asking for better access to agricultural markets. Everything else has a chance, but not that one...

It also provide jobs to Indonesians since Japanese companies only do the project management and hire Indonesian sub-contractors to do the actual labor unlike PRC which brings in Chinese labor as well.

If Indonesian people do not mind to live and work in Japan, Japan can reduce griping labor shortage.

The word is getting out among the Indonesians about Abe's 2 year indentured servitude program. The content ones stay at home, the sneaky and clever ones come and then disappear.

There are no benefits for them to work in Japan. They're being used, have no opportunity to stay for more than 2 years which ensures they can't actually increase whatever skills they're supposed to be polishing on "training" visas, and their salaries are docked so heavily for things like food, rent, etc. by the Japanese employer that they are not able to pay back the broker who arranged for them to come here in the first place.

On the other hand it makes perfect sense for those who plan to come to Japan then disappear from the radar screens - at least then they actually get to make some real money, which is the only thing they're usually interested in anyway.

Not happening. Indonesians lack the 'work-to-death' work ethics, and their skin tone is three shades too dark for the Japanese' liking.
