free and open Indo-Pacific

last time I looked it is “free and open” apart from US warships cruising around armed to the teeth.

Last time I checked it was “free and open” apart from the Chinese, armed to the teeth, started building artificial military islands in international water and encroaching on most south East Asian nation’s, including Indonesia’s, sovereignty. Yeah, the US is is truly the aggressor here. Do your homework before making ignorant comments.

Japan sends our warm greetings to Indonesian President Joko Widodo  and the Indonesian people.

Widildo has invited both Russian president Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the gathering and is expected to seek understanding from Japan about the invitations

What the heck ?

Iam momentarily baffled in surprise.

Well...ahem...hmm

Will Japan be understanding about the invitations ?

The Indonesian president isn't joking ?

No pun on the Joko

I sincerely doubt that Putin and Zelenskyy will attend the gathering !

"Widodo and Kishida last met in late April in Bogor near Jakarta and agreed the two nations will step up cooperation toward realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific..."

This would, of course, include criticism of the U.S. and its 'concern' and provocative behaviors and calls for restrictions on that "free and open" policy for what the local countries are doing in THEIR OWN backyard. The U.S. has military bases all over the Pacific Ocean that could easily restrict ocean commerce if U.S. foreign policy goes anymore off the rails... And China is just proactively protecting its own interests against a very real THREAT, the U.S., that thinks it owns the oceans and, should hostilities break out in the Western Pacific, would do its best to block those very sea lanes.

Indonesia is a future world economic power and an example of how a diverse nation of islands and people can establish a vibrant democracy.

Great country, good people, nice food as well.

Probably the world's premier surfing destination too !

Last time I looked it is “free and open” precisely because there are US, Japanese, Australian, British and other allied warships cruising around armed to the teeth preventing China from closing the South China Sea, Taiwan Straits and other bodies of water to other than Chinese users. There, I fixed it for you.

Try telling the Papuans what a wonderful democracy they have. Do you even know who the Papuans are and their history vis-a-vis Indonesia? They were supposed to be granted independence when the Dutch colonial authorities departed but the Javanese decided they wanted the resources there and harshly, violently oppress the native Papuans.
