This pocket money term is quite intriguing. A personal pauche term for a G countrys coffers.

Where are my masks, Abe, you loser!

If pocket money means slush fund used for dubious spending to prop up aging LDP cronies, then I guess it's appropriate.

Still waiting for the 10k stimulus application here in ketchy Nagoya.

I think we’d all like to see a ledger itemizing where the money is being spent

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Where's my money bro

I'm confused, they cut spending on special needs training and employment apparently because they had no money? They cut the pension / didn't raise it because they had no money? Now they have lashings of money for stupid masks (I've yet to see anyone wear), huge payouts for Advertising Firms....what's going on? Are they corrupt? Tell me it can't be so. Surly they care about who they represent?

How long have you lived in Japan? I only ask this because the longer you do, the more immune you become to hearing BS like this as "normal", or get ticked off to the point that you leave!

No one in their right mind condones it, but Japanese politicians care about their own constituencies, that includes Abe, and the "people" come after!

Never going to happen, but the best thing that could happen here, is to have a direct election for PM!

9 ( +12 / -3 )

The dear leader doesn’t really care as he doesn’t have any kids that will be trying to pay off this slush fund off in the coming decades.

And STILL no masks and no 100k yen as of today pm...

MMMMMMMMMMMMMPOCKET MONEY ???.So we are expecting a 2nd wave of Corona.

Bring the Democratic Party (Minshuto) back to power. They were all about cutting unnecessary spending and getting the fiscal house in order while giving breaks to the regular man i.e. 1,000 yen expressway limit, increase in govt subsidies for kids, etc.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

relax folks, the money is coming... check your mailboxes...

Japan typically sets aside reserves of around several hundred billion yen in the annual budget

This is all silly semantics considering there is 1.5 bazillion squllions of ten of govt debt.

And pray tell how will that exactly help Japan in any meaningful way? It sure hasn't "helped" a lot in America.

Exactly.

I could drive from Kobe to Niigata paying only 2,000yen.

People have been brainwashed that the DP was a failure which is not true.

40 days and counting since I handed in my application for the 100K, while dentsu gets billions immediately without doing anything

So, will Abe be sending out more masks with this money?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Yubaru

you know. We both know the politicians have no care about their constituents other than getting cash. And fulfilling their own failings as human beings by a false sence of adulation. By the way who on earth describes ¥10 trillion as pocket money, that's tax payer money not a personal account.

He learned is tricks from his grandfather Kishi just read his wiki page is enough to make you gag and understand why shin Kuhn is the richest Japanese politician.

sickening, he knows he has no hope in getting re-elected so it’s time to stuff the pockets some more.

And if you do read it you'll come to understand that he was released from Sugamo Prison for suspected war crimes and reinstated to work for Uncle Sam's interests in Japan.

How about giving everyone a one year income tax exemption.

At least then we would all benefit not just giant conglomerates.

$90 billion isn't a lot of money and more is needed. The money shouldn't be used for cherry viewing and school building, but for producing goods. Fortunately, our neighbor is accelerating growth and Japan should take the opportunity by investing in the west China. Like the old time emigrating to north China, modern Japanese should immigrate to the west. Genetically speaking, Japanese and Tibetans are the same people.

"We'll report how we spend the money as needed and at the appropriate time,"

Phew! And here I thought they were not going to be transparent again, after 10-trillion Abe vows to do so. I guess we can just trust honest Abe and cooperate.

$90 billion isn't a lot of money

How exactly do you draw this conclusion? This is obviously a slush fund for abe and his cronies. I'm glad they're calling him out for this blatant tax grab.

Wallace Fred asked "How exactly do you draw this conclusion?"

Well, as a sovereign nation, Japan has printing machine.

The PM has to eat cake

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Why no parliamentary oversight? This isn't funny. It sounds like a banana republic with an ageing despot in charge! Eeiii, my tax money for Abe and his cronies pocket.

Why are people so anxiously waiting for the masks. They are a bunch of square fabric stitched together in the simplestof ways, way too small for your face. They make you look like you're waiting a kids mask. Must admit, total waste of a ton of money. I hope this slush fund gets better directed.

just to clarify... ( i previously said “check your mailboxes” ) ... first you need to have your application paper ( that ,s coming in the mail ), send it back and then they,ll put the money in your bank account... from what i,ve been told, i don,t think they,ll let you know when ( weird huh ), so you need to keep checking your bank account... i know that many people already did the paperwork part, but still waiting for the actual money... so.. yeah ... still no money :/ ( 13th of June )

( excuse me ... i was talking about the 100,000 btw )

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It’s piss poor pathetic-the people of Japan are being used and abused!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Regrettable. I apologize for causing confusion, and ask for the public’s understanding. I will stake my political career on restoring Japan to prosperity.
