The LDP have kept him chained up in the basement of their Nagatacho HQ for years but every once in a while he manages to escape

:D

my wild imagination drew a very vivid and hilarious picture :D

Aso understands because he likes to bully children too….

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Ukraine sure ain’t weak.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Aso family is the number one bootlicker of CIA and the American military-industrial complex.

When the boy was subject to harm his neighbor, it's not bully, it's self-defense.

And it's not like Russia didn't give Ukraine plenty of warnings before, so much that it made Ukraine and those behind believe Russia was weak and all bluffing

To OssanAmerica, no it's you who have to study history. 1931 is China who got raped and dismembered. You forgot about Korea and how Formosa was taken from China. By the way, please sort out your own country's nonstop mass shooting case to point the latest bang bang in Chicago yesterday.

So how much stronger Japan should be to escape bullying by China and Russia?

Almost every day we hear news of their ships demonstrating in or close to Japanese waters. Even if Japan was super powerful what would be it's reaction I wonder?

Those 2 countries are bullies - period! That's why is so important international coordinated action and not only local!

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

It's 1931 to 1945. Study your history.

Korea was actually 1910-1945.

that’s not the only country.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Taro-chan is the type of guy who couldn't care less about anything we posters have to say.

The man has a valid point. Russia knew it would have little problem against a Ukraine that stood alone. With 40 odd nations supplying weapons and aid the Ukraines have made Russia's invasion alot more deadly to Russian forces and the whole thing is taking much longer than anticipated.

The strong are rarely underestimated and are much less likely to be invaded or attacked. The weak are much easier targets and are often the targets of much stronger nations when they look to expand their borders.

When neighbors on your borders are much, much stronger than you, and they are ruled by despots or autocrats looking to make a name that lives on in history, it is time to be very worried and to silently build up your own strength to a point where it is known the price for conquering you would be both prohibitive and uncertain.

Japan, South Korea, Georgia, Moldova and others can learn a valuable lesson from Ukraine's tragedy. Use the time you have to put those lessons to good use.

Ukrainain soldiers are getting slaughtered in the thousands in trenches, being bombarded 24 hours a day,it one Ukranian said 100 died from lost of blood in his platoon

Japan needs to step out from under the US boot and seek its own course. For the good of the Japanese people and foreigners in Japan. Ukraine is a European problem that has nothing to do with Japan. Japan has nothing to gain but everything to lose by backing the badly losing side it is backing.

Shouldn't he asked too why his government raped, burnt, pillaged, raped and murdered its way through weak Asian countries from 1895 to 1945

It's 1931 to 1945. Study your history.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

It’s hard to believe aso was actually in the big chair. Such comments will lead to Japan become more involved in the conflict and are best kept to oneself, such soundbites are playing with fire..

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Shouldn't he asked too why his government raped, burnt, pillaged, raped and murdered its way through weak Asian countries from 1895 to 1945? His country was only stopped by two atomic bombs and a massive onslaught by the Russians. That also it appeared certain elements in the current government appeared unrepentant.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

What a totally ridiculous analogy. Our politicians (globally) really are a bunch of idiots.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Aso, who served as prime minister from 2008 to 2009, has often come under fire for gaffes and controversial statements.

Man, if you read some of the things Aso Taro has said in the past, he straight up sounds like he’s from Imperial Japan. It’s as if someone travelled back in time to Imperial Japan and brought back a politician to modern day.

Yes exactly Ukraine was once a powerful nuclear arsenal that disarmed itself in a security agreement only to be invaded by its own brothers.

Russia is bullying Ukraine and the west is bullying Russia

Japan bullying foreigners and women

Renho, an upper house member and a senior member of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, took to Twitter to protest, saying that it was not appropriate to assume that all the bullied children are "weak."

Her party democrats have for long resisted any constitutional amendment, sabotaged military upgrades for collective security. Do they really care about the weak? When you are threatened at gunpoint, seek help from those democrats, the latter might only reply "you guys should talk", or "both are to blame." Democrats are behaving as terrible onlookers to the weak under bullying.

... And don't forget that democrats referred to the aggressor Russian as nitpicks to attack the LDP.

Ukraine would certainly not have been attacked if it posed a retaliatory threat.

Ukraine certainly would not have been attacked had it not given up thousands of nuclear arms that had been stationed on it soil. Security was promised in exchange for denuclearization.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

USA proxy war to weaken Russia is probably more like bullying, as well as USA threatening EU companies with far reaching sanctions if they don’t toe the line, at the detriment of their economies, is probably bullying. Ukraine oppressing, bombing and destroying Donbass is probably bullying. Aso should stop watching CNN/Sky/France 24 and NHK.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Also only understands as no doubt he did/does the same thing

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

"...the bullying of weak children"? Or more like Aso's ancestors' megalomaniac attempt to boss it over all of East and South-East Asia (not so very long ago)? "Don't mention that war" still remains the default position of all the right-wing Asos of Nippon.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Anytime Japan talks of bullying i can't help but remember Nanjing -pure evil stuff.

-10 ( +7 / -17 )

It's the sign of maturity when the strong protect the weak

Are you sure about that ?

When the weak become strong enough to protect themselves thats real maturity.

"ASO LIKENS RUSSIAN WAR IN UKRAINE TO BULLYING OF WEAK CHILDREN" [baka!]

If we are discussing the bullying of weak children, shall we ask Aso about Vietnam or Iraq or Syria or, potentially Bukhan, or, perhaps, go so far back as to ask about Korea in 1910 when the same mentalities ruled Japan who pollute the LDP today? And he neglects that the Kyiv aovskyys have been making deadly war upon eastern Ukraine, their own people, since 2014. How do these simple minded warmongers stay in public life?

[Should apparently illiterate people be judging other people's opinions?]

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

Which side of his mouth did Aso say this out of? The weak side, or the less weak side? If Aso, Abe, and the like had their way, Japan would be losing more wars again and ALL our taxes would be going to defense as we did so.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

For Aso, his remarks this time were really not offensive. He’s said way more offensive things in the past. I kind of agree with him on this issue at least.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Good old Aso, he can always be relied on to reveal the true face of the one-party state. The LDP have kept him chained up in the basement of their Nagatacho HQ for years but every once in a while he manages to escape, grab a microphone and bellow some unhinged nonsense

Brilliant!!!

-11 ( +8 / -19 )

Aso likens Russian war in Ukraine to bullying of weak children

What does he liken Imperial Japan in WW2 to?

-11 ( +11 / -22 )

the worst of all time up their with Hitler and Trump!

Huh? Trump didn't start any wars. In fact, he often publicly spoke out against US involvement in foreign wars and his team negotiated a withdrawal from Afghanistan.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

"What kind of child was being bullied during your childhood? The weak were bullied. The strong weren't bullied. The same goes for countries,"

So there you have it, it's Ukraine's fault for not going to karate class. Someone should have asked Aso what his hero Adolf Hitler would have done. He wasn't all bad, you know.

fwiw, Ukraine has mostly humiliated the much larger Russia military. A big problem, possibly the main one, is that its on Ukranian soil and their country which is being destroyed.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

It will never cease to surprise me how much Mr Aso has refined the art of making completely inappropriate comments, it is difficult to believe he makes them with any other intention but to alienate as much people as possible in both sides of any problem.

0 ( +13 / -13 )

Good old Aso, he can always be relied on to reveal the true face of the one-party state. The LDP have kept him chained up in the basement of their Nagatacho HQ for years but every once in a while he manages to escape, grab a microphone and bellow some unhinged nonsense. At least he didn't praise Hitler's election strategy again or claim that treating sick elderly people is a waste of the state's resources.

Taro Aso on Monday implicitly likened the current Russian invasion of Ukraine to the bullying of weak children

Ohh, well. We’ve been wondering where this useless individual has been.

Did he finally wake up from his nap?

Such insight. Where would this country be without his grand leadership?

Thank you for addressing such an issue with such intelligence Aso.

We’ll let you know when you’re needed again. Go back to sleep.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

Russia and Putin are bullies! I will never forgive Russia for their atrocities! Putin will go down in history as in of the worst of all time up their with Hitler and Trump!

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

It is bullying, except the Russians rape, torture and murder their victims so it’s much uglier.

4 ( +16 / -12 )

Ukraine military had years of training by NATO, so were not so weak. It's just that Russia was so much stronger.

It was Ukraine that was attacking Russian speaking areas of Ukraine since 2014 with the loss of 14,000 Russian lives. Putin finally had enough of Ukraine bullying and the broken agreements not to bring NATO to the Russian door step.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

"Countries that look strong" are unlikely to be targeted..." And did Aso learn nothing from history? How about 9/11 or Pearl Harbor? From what I understand the U.S. "looked" very strong in those two instances, and uh....were not only targeted, but attacked.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

The Ukrainian troops are trained and armed by the US and its allies. If you look at it from Moscow’s side, the Russians are indirectly fighting the all mighty US.

19 ( +21 / -2 )

The weak were bullied. The strong weren't bullied. The same goes for countries,"

More schoolyard reasoning. Putin and Russian people in general seem to think the same way. Both Russian and Japanese leaders seem to enjoying bullying. Russia to the point where they are using their extensive military powers to level cities and slaughter children, women, and the elderly. And Putin's stans continue to say he's strong and smart. Smart (maybe because he sits in one of his heavily fortified palaces gnoshing on caviar, while lower caste Russians are being killed for his glory. Warmongers, like Putin are cowards. I imagine being as short as Putin is, he got bullied growing up, and now has turned into one of the planet's current biggest bullies and among the current biggest warmonger,s joining his fellow oil/gas bully/thugs/warmongers Saudi's MbS and the UAE's MbZ.But those favoring the continuation of the fossil economy are enabling the bull/thug/warmongers.

…next story, China bullies Japan again, must be a weak country?

Most like arming a child to fight a bully, known the child will beat up by the bully

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

"What kind of child was being bullied during your childhood? The weak were bullied. The strong weren't bullied. The same goes for countries," said Aso, currently the vice president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, in a stump speech in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo, ahead of Sunday's House of Councillors election.

This sort of revolutionary insight is why Taro Aso has been collecting a huge government salary for decades and now even at 81 the Japanese taxpayers are grateful to give up their hard-earned yen to retain him in service.

Taro Aso for the new face of the 10000 yen bill would be very fitting.

-1 ( +19 / -20 )

These LDP politicians continue to press for military rearmament, but in a sense, Aso is correct: Ukraine would certainly not have been attacked if it posed a retaliatory threat.

The big question is: Can a Japanese government that often acts against the will of its people be trusted with giant military hardware?
