Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen mentioned the issue in a working dinner, but he refrained from saying anything more.

What could he have said?

That inflation in Japan is out of control?

That the BOJ has taken the opposite course of action (to everyone else) ie producing more yen which weakens the Japanese currency?

That deposit account rate accounts in Japan produce abysmal ROI?

What a basket case Japan is…

G7 finance leaders vow to contain inflation, strengthen supply chains but avoid mention of China

China just too big and have influence to be mentioned in a bad way during G7 meeting

No, they forgot to mention China, and Putin, that´s all, don´t you think? (laughter)

To combat inflation they will print and deficit-spend more money, enact more regulations which will further drive up energy prices, and push more of their manufacturing to China. Given that these people have done nothing but drive the world’s economies off a cliff, and embolden Putin to invade Ukraine, put Taiwan in China's crosshairs, does anyone have any faith in them?

Awesome picture. Citizens of the Planet look up to the financial leaders to offer them right solutions. Serving the hungry, the poor, the sick, the homeless, the jobless, the illiterate, and the depressed is a mission second to none. The G7 finance leaders are yet to do justice to their enormous potential in world serving. Wishing the leaders strength and stamina.

It's just a trip that countries like Canada and Italy are in the G7 in 2023. Time moves on. Things change. Embrace the reality of emerging economic powers. Just a thought, make it a G10 with the addition of India, China and Brazil.

Joe Stiglitz is a socialist, the economic face of politicians like Bernie Sanders.

There has to a defined expressed function or indication of significant purpose to these G7 meetings.

Japan taxpayers appear to be footing the bill for what amounts to a talking shop.

Media ego preening that could, without prejudice, suggest an elite group of appointed bureaucrats, without any clear underlining conclusion.

Other than producing a statement without any accountability to prove or offer advancement or progress from past meetings.

The reality for the public is hollering out when we tally up our weekly shop.

Unless accountability is front center and can be measured it is a political charade.

Xin,Sanders is lots of better alternative than crooked bankers, who rely on the assistance of the US taxpayer, the US government prop up the banking system

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Banks in the US on have 3.4 trillion in liquid assets out of 21 trillion in deposit,no way could the FDIC insured trillion in losses

Columbia University economist Joseph Stiglitz, is a respected Nobel prize winner.

Joseph Stiglitz has never been elected to office, his opinions are matter for debate and lecture.

Joseph Stiglitz is not accountable to the public for his opinions.

Lobbying on the dream of “progressive capitalism.” should be debated and scrutinized for what it is worth and not be presented as policy for governments, politicians to adopt without question.

How do you know if your bank is not on the brink of failure,if you do not read the quarterly statement, bank. go insolvent daily only at night, the run too the FED,to sell Treasury just to be liquid for another business day, bank are more than what see while the shiny happy tellers,do your transaction, they have no idea the illiquidity of their employer, the CFO is doing all kind of tricks to keep the bank a float

This group is no longer relevant.

Yellen is a partisan hack. Bringing up Biden's refusal to negotiate a debt ceiling increase with the majority in a foriegn country is bush league politics at it's worst. This was a waste of time. The flight of capitol from banks is a result of the democrat party's total ignorance of capitalism.

A complete circus of clowns without a single funny act.

Of course they avoided mentioning China, because everything they talked about committing to achieve requires China to meekly obey their orders and cooperate with their efforts to rob it of economic power and independence. That BRICS/SCO core purpose was to give the 2/3rds of the world the freedom to not have to obey their orders and cooperate with their robberies is the elephant in the room.

Ryder, you do not know anything about capitalism, their are no capitalist banking system, the government is the only thing standing between their insolvent, yes I support socialism cause, that why I play the lottery it will make me well capitalize

There is no purpose to an acronym. India, South Africa, Brazil, will all chart their own path, regardless of what the oversize bully country wants.

A bit silly to call China a developing economy

Why? It calls itself that to continue to get freebies and exceptions.

China doesn't do anything positive for others so should be kept OUT. Also it isn't wealthy enough to be in the G7.

Nope, Russia and China are still criminals and Ukraine and Taiwan are the victims of them.

Italy totally belongs, but I could see adding Australia, South Korea, and Taiwan. We can keep going but China is so far down the list because it is too poor.
