Not just Russia and China but also North/South Korea they are laughing as well! How much work can be done in a period of 12 months more or less for a Prime Minister? Next year, we will see another LDP boring debates and contest for that post like this year again!
When your name is call in, time to get out!

Right. Because dictators are so much better than democracy.

The vote is seen as a test ?
Must move quickly ?
Only announcements are made quickly in Japan, unless its ramen you ordered.
Perhaps if they stopped running around in circles maybe they could get something accomplished.
Olympics natsukashi desuka?
Yes lets all dream of looking back at the pandemic favorably and what an awesome job Japan has done during a pandemic, thats still happening by the way.
BackpackingNepal
Wow! They could have more fan if they were a rock band together.

Why are these candidates campaigning instead of working?!
sf2k
Because this is as close to democracy Japan gets after all the corporate interests and coalitions inside the LDP have their way then it's off to the rubber stamp of an 'election'.
Yotomaya
In a world in which the next leader of one party is automatically the next prime minister. Just before the election.

Let the circus show begin… let’s see which clown will come out on top…only 4 clowns to choose from

Every time I see Takaichi's smiling face I am reminded on the Joker. That smile never goes away. She scares me.

No, @yakyak, that joke goes, you need all four of them to get in sum one brain. lol

There it is, they finally got their four cemented positions in a line down.
And doing the most unnatural group pose in the history of group poses.
Seriously, who has ever done that with other people, ever in the history of life?
Kono always on the far left (his right) and the two women as far as possible from him.
What is the point of these conferences?
To show that these four have absolutely nothing better to do than do photo shoots?
So who’s running the country right now? It isn’t Suga.
He’s making speeches, bragging about things that he was SUPPOSED to do.

There's a general election coming up very soon.
The Nomad
Don't understand why they are on TV every day to explain what they're planning to tackle if they become PM if the LDP is going to choose the leader and not the citizens. Please explain this to me, maybe I'm lacking the intellectual to understand
yakyak
All four of them should run the country, this way they only need to use 25 per cent of their brains.

Why not just bow? The elbow and fist thing has to go.

I didn't know they were democratic in any way. A government elected by a quarter of the electorate is hardly democratic, but that evidently doesn't bother them as they've had seventy or so years to make elections more representative.

Must quickly work to restore relations with China.
Happy Day
With enough intenstinal fortitude, the virus can end pretty quickly.

Anyone but China-loving Kono.

LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) has to change its name to Conservative Democratic Party. Next prime minister will highly be Kishida who is getting support from conservative members of LDP including Abe and Aso groups.
dagon
For the long-governing Liberal Democratic Party that often chooses its leaders in backroom negotiations, this election promises to be wide open.
An interesting definition of "wide-open". Wide open if you happen to be a LDP or coalition party gerontocrat, an influential head of a Japan Inc./Keidanren corporation or the all powerful voting bloc of rural landowners. Sounds like an inclusive democratic process to me!

When the pandemic hopefully ends, one of the first things to rid ourselves of is the pictured “elBro bump”.

Uh,… yeah, most do. That’s how the ‘common people’ with families think.
“Many people tend to react to issues that directly affect their daily lives … but pay little attention to political views and issues…,” Nishida said.TokyoJoe
