Though away from home, the war in Ukraine, its outcome will further have an impact on Kishida's tenure as well as his government. The economic stability and growth for Japan are the core issue of national security, an equivalent significance of its military buildups.

Opposition parties are set to grill Kishida and other cabinet members in the 69-day parliament session

And yet, the opposition does not appear to have any ambitions to lead the country. So what's the final upshot of criticizing Kishida? Maybe the LDB could at least split into pro- and anti-Unification Church factions so people can chose?

Only 3 out of 4 front page articles name the PM. If opposition parties "grill" him as badly as the media, he's done for.

Vowing to realize a "new capitalism," by which Kishida claims the fruits of economic growth could be redistributed to the middle class,

The article just below this one states that subsidies to companies, paid for by the working taxpayer, will be the basis of wage hikes.

New Capitalism is socialism for business owners.

Nagatocho might as well be in geo-stationary orbit they are so massively out of touch with the concerns of Japanese citizens.

Opposition parties are set to grill Kishida and other cabinet members...

It won't make any difference until one opposition party emerges with credible policies and enough candidates and funding to challenge the LDP.

Where's the result? Costly funeral, new capitalism?

I wish he would stop trying to suck up to external powers and focus on doing what’s right for Japan.

He made his son secretary.

Is that supposed to help ?

That's an LDP politician putting his true priorities, i.e. LDP dynastic money politics, before everything else as usual. Helping anyone else isn't really in the party mission statement.

Surprised he is still prime minister to be honest. The usual LDP way of overcoming bad press is to put a "new face" in charge and get the old one to fall on his sword...

1 year.

1 resultless year of resultless PM.

Mr. Kishida you must prepare to resign now. After the death of Shinzo Abe, your political foundation is very fragile!

Over 60% of total Covid19 deaths in Japan are after start of Kishida regime.

Japan where is not yet able to respond Covid19 has increased deaths year by year unlike other countries.

Sorry, but I can’t stand it anymore to hear all this. If that new capitalism doesn’t work and the old capitalism hasn’t worked for the last decades, then isn’t it obvious, that the old capitalism before those last decades has worked very well? And now guess, what by all logic is the best, obvious and crystal clear thing to do from now on.

He can just blame everything on NK and Russia and print more money. No worries.

Exactly. Take care of your people first. Around 20% of children in Japan are not getting enough to eat; more and more families are falling through the cracks; the middle-class has been decimated by years of Abenomics, industries hollowed out, etc.

Meanwhile the government funds military-industrial projects such as misslie defense systems that don't work, white elephant public works projects, and lines their own pockets, all by printing more money.

It's quickly becoming a banana republic.

On his next foreign adventure, as PM Kishida is staring out of the plane window, looking down on the other jetliner that always accompanies the incumbent Japanese PM, his thoughts might turn to the increasing poverty that the Japanese populace face?

Maybe not!

More than likely he’ll be mulling over which after dinner brandy to choose to wash down his choice dinner before taking a snooze….

Best post I've read all day

Thats what often happens when a Foreign Minister becomes a PM...they,re more interested in keeping up their appearances internationally and sucking up overseas ( as thats what they,re used to ) rather than focusing on what needs to be done at home.

I hear you loud and clear. But remember, it's not just the problem of being the former foreign minister- After all, Aso's career was as Finance Minister and his PM stint was a disaster as well.

This mainly comes from extreme incompetence by the blue bloods here who lord over the people like they were Daimyos. And extremely incompetent ones as well. Its not just Kishida alone. The LDP is loaded with pure IDIOTS, and it seems that in J-politics and the LDP in particular, the more controversial you are the greater your political capital.

Take the Finance Minister Taro Aso with his foot perpetually in his mouth- he went into a supermarket and marveled at the scene of ordinary Japanese going about their shopping. -And he's the finance minister.

Then you have the minister in charge of cybersecurity, Yoshitaka Sakurada, who doesn't know what a USB port is AND admitted that he had never used, and did not know how to use, a computer.

On top of that, Hakuo Yanagisawa who was the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan described women as "birth-giving machines" and "baby making devices" in a speech on the falling birthrate of Japan.

You can't make this stuff up. These are all examples of how the LDP gets away with anything and never pay a political price for their Shenanigans.

Like I said, Kishida is just a tiny tip of the iceberg. The rot in the LDP is to the core.
