Good for them!

Should never have had the need to renovate in the first place. For all the insistence that Japan is a modern country, it sure the hell isn't when it comes to being barrier free!

Glad to see them doing it, but I will bet any money, it will be put back to the way it was once they leave their positions in the Diet!

Jaoan isn't very modern when it comes to HVAC or insulation either.

When people in a wheelchair use a bus, other passengers have to wait until a bus driver get them in the bus. Some say "Thank you" to the driver and waiting passengers while others take it for granted and do not say anything. I wish them say "Thank you."

But a lot of Japanese people are angry about these two being elected. I have heard lots of people say, "what can they do for the country? They can't talk or debate!" Also they are concerned about the cost these two will incur, but I replied that the amount spent on these two is a mere pittance as to what is wasted daily by all politicians.

IF this helps drag Japan into the present, so be it.

Good.

And take some chairs away where sleepers sit.

in your bid to make japan look good to the rest of the world for the ridiculous olympics at least some nice benefits come for people who live here and have been ignored.

These two disabled people have already done a hell of a lot for their cause by bringing it into the govt's. consciousness and spotlighting it and they haven't started working yet.

Good for Japan!

I'm with Educator. I don't see a problem with renos timed to fit actual needs of actual representatives, not renos done in advance to suit what an average disabled person might need.

So, one year before Japan hosts the Paralympics they put a severely disabled person into the diet and renovate to accomodate him. Coincidence? Hmm?

Chip StarToday 06:36 am JSTWelcome to the late 20th century.

Then President George Bush signed the Americans With Disabilities Act in 1990 to make all new buildings handicapped accessible and this law still isn't fully enforced in the USA even now. And that's despite the fact that George Bush spent his last years in a wheelchair due to some form of Parkinson's.

While they're making that place more wheelchair friendly, they can sort out the trip hazards that are the pavements and gutters…

Last year I had to carry something heavy on a cart through Shibuya station. I hit so many dead ends with escalators leading to steps etc. It was a nightmare. I had to keep going to get my ticket changed so I could go i and out of other exits and entrances in order to get this thing to the platform. The elevators were far and few between.

That station is looking cool, but it will be a nightmare for the Olympics.

Totally agree. While I would like to think they are changing for the better, I can almost guarantee the thugs and crawly critters are all but under the rugs and things are the same. Its all surface level stuff and a bit staged. After the stuff I heard about and what had happened to some people, it is no wonder they sided with Hitler.
