Long over due.

He doesn’t want three more months of questioning. He is busy having a serious of meetings about calling a “snap” election. And the LDP need time to organise the internal factions to decide who gets what. And who is next in line to be PM, family trees need to be verified faction loyalty proven. It’s not as straight forward as asking the people.

‘The people of Japan’ have continually expressed “No Confidence” over the last year but alas, no one is power has listened.

As of Wednesday, ‘the people’ will be ‘left babbling to themselves even more’…

“The opposition has called for extending the Diet session for three months beyond its scheduled last day on Wednesday to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.” -

… during the big O.

Toshihiro Nikai, heads the LDP Shisuikai faction, until this 82 year old political relic is put out to pasture.

Then expect a queue of aging mediocrity, reaching round the diet.

To be expected when this country is ruled by the QUASI-government!

Another issue is a majority of 18/30 fail to register a vote.

Most are politically comatose. So the outcome is staring you in the face.

Grandpa politics. Rampant depopulation.

Pitching pennies in an ocean.

@kyushubill hehehe!

no opposition. Anything but Nikai. If he wins, Abe’s boss Akie will be very vey angry.

Are the opposition parties dumb?

Support for the LDP is still multiples of any opposition party, the result of this election will be a LDP landslide, with opposition more likely to lose seats instead.

Japanese voters may be unhappy with LDP, but they will never vote for people without proper heritage. If they do not like the current politician they will simply not vote but would never consider voting for someone else. Loyalty to the regional political families is pretty much absolute. Unless there are defections from LDP politicians, LDP can never lose. Political family members also can never lose, they can have zero support nationally but will still have the loyalty from their local region to win easily.

I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the Japanese for “snap election” and “motion of no confidence” both translate as “we win anyway”.

I really, really loathe the LDP and everything about their dirty oligarchic money politics, but no wonder they keep winning when the opposition parties keep wasting their time with pointless gestures like this.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Pointless gestures yes I agree, but the LDP are old and culturally have to be given respect. So the opposition culturally cannot nail them. That would be rude! So are deferring to Shogani is culturally the best option. It’s not like any of them worry about the peasants.

They oppose to Olympic due to the pandemic, they call for extending the Diet session to respond to the pandemic but they don't care for disturbance from national level election during such pandemic.

Bunch of useless annoying characters they are

It seems to me that the only way to break this cycle is for the opposition to persuade the coalition partner to break away from LDP. Is that possible ?

Great! Down with the LDP.

Just the sort of finger-pointing, semi-coherent guff that I would expect of an LDP shill.

The only way to be a good politician is to deal with all problems in the most interests of the citizens.

says the one deluded as if all irritated with oppositions were just LDP shills, which would include yourself in such case.

I suppose that was "impolite to another user." What about calling other users "deluded"? The moderators don't think that's impolite?
