Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi, who is in charge of the bill, claimed the government will manage the legislation to appropriately ensure that the scope of classified information would not be broadened "immoderately."

There is a name you can trust.

She seems to be doing a very poor job of securing the economic livelihoods of the people of Japan.

Some critics and legal experts have raised concerns that the government could arbitrarily use the system to designate a wide range of issues as confidential, possibly infringing on the public's right to know.

Things about the economy that already seem to be confidential or obfuscated are the real job figures and the finances of the ruling party.

How about the bigger problem of economic security for the people of Japan threatened by further depredations at the hands of exploiting capitalists protected by an uncaring political class?

Sounds like they want to prevent people from knowing that the lawmakers are still going to be taking kickbacks without letting the public know. This in response to the LDP using slush funds.

So basically if it makes japan look bad it’s blocked from real foreign media that investigate and critically examine the story’s and report on them. Freedom of press in Japan is very low and this seems to be a way for the local governments to hide stories.

The House of Councillors passed the bill with the backing of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner, the Komeito party, as well as opposition parties...

whats the purpose of opposition parties if theyre just gonna pass the bills? China has those kind of "opposition" parties as well.
