I hope Abe will pursuit a pro-China policy if he is elected by the party. If not, he is better to give the chance to other able party leaders.

Oh. It's new to me that the PM vote would be first rather than set before the election or changed only during replacement some time afterwards. Interesting difference in parliamentary systems

Abe's face is not the first thing I'd like to see when I open Japan Today in the morning. But he's there almost daily..

It's a tough job in Japan being a politician....

Just before the election, Abe visited Chinese embassy. I hope he is not cheating on this election to have a good relationship with China as promised.

Why even bother?

@aike. He didn't promise anything other to meet trump and change the constitution. Other things were merely suggestions.

Goodlucktoyou, Abe wished and Abe also signed contract with China in his first term.

Is it me or isn't JT just a little biased toward Abe?

They haven't elected him yet, but JT seems to think it's a foregone conclusion.

Do we care? Japan is practicly a one-party state anyway!! That's very sad for a such developed country as Japan!:(

Why should Japan pursue a pro-China policy? Just the other day he spoke about a strategic dialogue with the U.S, India & Australia, in part, to counter China. Since Japan is a democracy and China isn't and has also regularly threatened the seizure of Japanese islands, clearly Japan's most important partners in the future are likely to be India & the U.S. It seems pretty obvious. Certainly the level of ties between Japan & India have increased rapidly of late.

all that I want of this special eight-day Diet session: is to that Mr. Abe be thinner and smarter!

Unfortunately I think it is too, unless there's a major revolt among LDP Diet members waiting to happen. I don't think anyone's predicting that, though, no matter what their opinion of Abe is.

"Just the other day he spoke about a strategic dialogue with the U.S, India & Australia, in part, to counter China." Abe lied.

"Since Japan is a democracy and China isn't and has also regularly threatened the seizure of Japanese islands, clearly Japan's most important partners in the future are likely to be India & the U.S. " Which law says that because China and Japan are two different systems that China and Japan can't be the most important partners ? It isn't in UN charter, it isn't in today's Japanese constitution. The only time that Japan had similar ideology was when Abe's grand father invaded China based on the superior complex propaganda by Japanese Imperialism. In fact, in all 6000 years history, China is much more superior than Japan.

"Certainly the level of ties between Japan & India have increased rapidly of late." Hopefully one day Indians will become the number one tourists for Japan.

China is a large country in Asia. Japan can't ignore China. But Japan can ignore Trump. His top aides were just trouble with FBI this morning. There will be more. (Mueller Investigation).
