Is he gonna get a courtesy visit like Obama town in Fukui?

I suppose it’s better than Joe Daiben.

When Obama was elected president in 2008, a city called Obama in Fukui Prefecture, central Japan, made headlines in both Japan and abroad.

For all the fuss, I wonder if there was any actual benefit to Obama-shi in Fukui. It may have got them some free publicity and filled some column inches for others, but was there anything else to this? At the time, city officials said it would get them tourists. How many actually came?

God, already the milking has started. Get ready for the red bean buns.

Oh the Japanese and their wacky word play. When will it ever get old?

With Biden set to take office next year, Umeda now hopes it will also be a chance for his town with a population of about 15,000 to gain recognition.

Next year? The mayor's 15 minutes of fame might be gone baiden.

Well, before people here start thinking this is an international success story and all that, it isn't. It is a cute story, for sure, and something to smile at and be a little proud, perhaps, for Mr. Umeda, but that's about all.

Very silly. But harmless.

There’s a district called “Kamara” in the City of Okinawa, formerly, Koza City. Residents there were rejoiced very much when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were projected to win the election, for their district’s name, Kamara, and the Vice President-elect’s first name, Kamala, sound similar.

Kamara was a small hamlet in the pre-war days that was swallowed up into Kadena Air Base after the war whereby the villagers had to move to the current site carrying the old hamlet name along with them.  Kamara residents are eager for Kamala Harris to visit Kamara someday and make first-hand observation of how people there are obliged to live with U.S. bases.

Gosh! Didn’t know a Daiben joke would make such a big splash!

When it comes to wordplay, I see you do not simply dip a toe in, you like daiben head first.

At the moment, I am enjoying people's use of "BYEDON" from a previous article.
