Lol. Planning to stop using plastic bags by 2030 seems like a REALLY big step here in Japan. How Suga and Japan feel they can say anything, to anyone, about anything to do with the environment beggars belief.
You can plan all these fantastic technologies but they don't mean squat when the old guy down the road goes down the beach every weekend to burn his rubbish. When the majority of recycling is burnt. When the beaches are so filthy I don't like sitting in the sand without a towel. When people freely dump their rubbish in the mountains. These are culturally acceptable (ignored), and in the case of recycling heralded, here in Japan.
I know this sounds doom and gloom but having lived in Japan for almost a decade, and Asia for much longer, I realise any efforts made in NZ (or be that any country that is actually trying to do something) are pointless because of the "efforts" being made here in Asia.
