Japan, Australia to bolster security ties amid China's threat

Australia making allies to counter China's threat while supplying iron and energy for China's war machines?

Protecting is not in anyway warmongering. China is warmongering with its destructive global behavior over the past few decades with their long history of control and demanding a communist rule. The entire world albeit a few rouge nations are designing a protective shield against current and future actions taken by China that may result in war. No one wants war. However as you can see, China is preparing to confront not only Japan and Australia, but America and Europe as well.

The three shared the view that Japan and Australia "need to lead efforts toward the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific," referring to a vision that Japan has been promoting along with the United States as an apparent counter to Beijing's rise.

Really? Wasn't that long ago Wong was against AUKUS, pro-appeasing China.

This sound like a proposal for Japan and Australia to shoulder security cost to secure Chinese trades whilst letting China dominate the SCS unopposed.

Wong is a CCP STOOGE.

Trade as percent of GDP

China - 37%

Japan - 31%

United States - 23%

(Source: World Bank https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NE.TRD.GNFS.ZS)

The Chinese economy is the most trade dependent of the three countries so certainly China needs open trade routes.

More warmongering from two irrelevant "powers."

you might want to look up the definition of warmongering.

Building an island out of nothing in the middle of an ocean, claiming it as your own, then placing a military base on it, is warmongering.

deliberately & consistently intruding into another country’s waters & airspace, is warmongering

More warmongering from two irrelevant "powers."

If they actually were irrelevant then China would neither care nor complain. They do both.

And for the record they are responding to the biggest warmonger in the region, China. A Nation that tries so hard to be relevant and a leader, without any respect from anyone or any ability to lead.

Japan has only a 5 minute window of an Attack,NK had lowered Japanese into a false sense of insecurity,by targeting missile over ,one will hit one day

China also has that same 5 minute window for missiles launched from Japan or South Korea.

Beijing has a false sense of security as it has more than a few military targets in and around that capital city. The main difference being Jinping does not care about the lives of Chinese citizens.

Larry understands that missiles fly both ways, but never mentions anyone but Japan being targeted. Why is that? And do not bother suggesting nuclear weapons as they have not been used in 85 years, and will not be used again except to end the human race as we know it.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Sorry, 77 years since nuclear weapons were last used.

Australia making allies to counter China's threat while supplying iron and energy for China's war machines?

It is a significant vulnerability for China. If a conflict arises China will find its industry suddenly starved for a large proportion of the iron ore it imports.

If China or DPRK do that it will the be the last thing they ever do, and both nations know that.

Twiddle de tweedle dumb those two on the right aren’t directly related? If not that’s a big red flag for the genetic pool of politicians in Japan.

The headscratcher with China is that if their leadership was less insecure and less beligerent there would not be any threats to their foreign trade that need man made islands armed to the teeth. Drop the 9 Dash Line nonsense and quit claiming sovereignty over other nations territorial seas and EEZs and a lot of problems China faces now all go away. Poof, gone, just like that. China won't have hostile neighbors if it is not hostile to them.

NK talks about nukes on a weekly basis

At this point, the NK regime would have to have lost its collective mind if it isn't sparing no effort in order to build a powerful nuclear deterrent. Thank you USA.

Very biased, predictable headline with no açcountability/journalist name.

China is a threat to the hegemony of the US. That's it.

Everything else is nationalist fearmongering with xenophobic undertones by the right. Comparing the interference of the US and other neocolonial powers around the world, China is pretty tame. That doesn't make its domestic policy and debt traps okay though, obviously.

As a taxpayer in Japan who struggles to make ends meet, I am deeply concerned about where this kind of narrative is dragging us. We are forced to pay for completely unnecessary militarization during a period of historical inflation by people who openly worship WW2 criminals. But if a significant part of the public keeps voting for these goons, what can others do?

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

there is nothing like "chinese threat" both to Australia and Japan.

Stop turning a blind eye to the threat China poses to the region. Giving them a free pass to spend massive amounts on continually building their military while berating Japan and Australia for responding to that threat by enhancing their own defenses. When you begin berating China for its build up, then I may listen to your rants on Japan and Australia defense spending. And Yes, I am well aware of American spending.

China is a threat to the hegemony of the US. That's it.

China doing its best to build a Chinese hegemony. The difference is stark that many more nations listen to the US while many more ignore China and consider it a threat.

You should be very glad for those "goons" are doing much more than you to ensure your safety, security and free will than you are. Perhaps you should emigrate to China as you seem to want the CCP to control your life.

Australian and New Zealand are not originally from this areas, only through migration

History suggests humanity originated in Africa. All humanity. They spread out at different periods in the past hundreds of thousands of years. Aboriginals in each nation are the first to arrive and survive in those areas. Same with your own country Larry.

Yep, "If you don't like it, leave". This argument always works.

I don't owe the Japanese government anything, especially since I'm taxed without being able to vote.

The only "security" the US and its allies ensure is for markets to be open to US interference. Is China doing the same thing? Sure, but claiming it's a unique threat is either disingenuous or ignorant.

stop warmongering

you should look up the definition of warmongering too

Continually threatening to use nuclear weapons, is warmongering

stop warmongering

Warmongering is when an Indian Navy ship a mere 45 nautical miles from the entrance to Cam Ranh Bay is overhauled by a Chinese warship and told to leave the area because it is "sovereign Chinese territory". Look at a map and you can clearly see how ridiculous the claim is.

China also claims the right to force all ships to request permission to transit anywhere in the South China Sea. Left unstated is what happens if a ship refuses to ask permission.

Japan, Australia to bolster security ties amid China's threat:

Amid China's threat?

With indecisive India distancing itself, QUAD has literally died a natural death.

So is AUKUS when UK is dragged down by its weak economy & bad politics.

Only Sydney & Tokyo hold on to US now..

Whilst the figures you adduce are indeed true, you’ve interpreted them wrongly. In fact, when it comes to dependence on trade as a percentage of GDP, these 3 are among the least trade dependent. In the case of most Western nations, trade is usually at least TWICE as important, in terms of its percentage of GDP.

China is a threat???, WFT!!

all those countries use made-in-China every day, those bankrupt G7 countries need to find an enemy to cover their failure.

the puppet Kishida just follows the US order.

China is without a doubt far freer than the EU

Spent much time in China, have you?

I have. What you are saying is beyond ridiculous.

yes

China is without a doubt far freer than the EU

yeh, that’s why demonstrations are broken up with military force, & the internet is filtered or blocked.

Anyone who challenges the government, & the system , is dealt with. Eg, Jack Ma

The best way to avoid war with an aggressive neighbor is to be prepared to fight the war.

China is without a doubt far freer than the EU

Then why do I have to use a VPN in China to see global web sites that are blocked in China while in the EU I don't need one? How come I can rent a car anywhere in Europe and drive myself around anywhere I want to go while in China I cannot rent a car, and have to report my presence to the local police or face a fine and immediate deportation to my home country? How come the Chinese government could seize my family home in Shanghai, fire Momma from her job as a teacher, revoke the Hankou and force our family to live in poverty in the countryside with no due process or any kind of legal recourse? There's your "freedom".
