I don't buy that Aso is giving money away for humanitarian reasons. There must be something they're not telling.

No big secret. For the most of the developed and therefore wealthiest nations, if you want a seat at the table where decisions are made you need to put some money up front. It is the small price a nation pays to have the rules of the world, the various international laws, agreements, treaties and industrial standards, written in ways that benefit them and not let their adversaries write the rules in ways that harm them. China has been getting its way in the world largely through prodigious spending on foreign aid to developing nations. They are buying friends and allies. It has always been that way, with smaller weaker nations looking for a patron to protect and aid them. Japan can play that game too. It's seems kind of ugly but it works.

Of all the nations in the world maybe only Taiwan was prepared for a pandemic. A close second would be South Korea (unless you believe the tripe coming from Pyongyang that there is no pandemic in DPRK). Japan has done a much better job of taking care of its people during this pandemic than most other nations have.

Taking a broader view of the Japanese health care system it seems to provide the Japanese with one of the longest life expectancies on Earth while keeping annual health care costs for its citizens among the lowest of the developed nations in the OECD. Japan's health care system costs about 1/3 as much of the Japanese GDP as the US, cough cough, "system" does while providing a superior outcome. The cost is below the OECD average too. Japan of course has other aspects of life that help account for the long life expectancy but Japan's health care system has much to recommend compared to the rest of the world.

This seems al little like the US thinking they can solve violence and joblessness in some Central American countries. If they have a plan that works on that, maybe start in West Virginia, Southside Chicago and multiple other places in their own country.

A welcome change from the latest news where Japan seems more interested in supporting military growth, at least this project is more positive, even if not exactly realistic at this point.

and why don't you believe him? Do you have any reasons other than he is Japanese?

He does know that India has the largest number millionaires of any country in the world and one in six Osaka children don’t have enough food?
