Obviously, Japan doesn't want to help China.

Akie, I would say Japan doesn't NEED to help China.

What business is it of Japan as to who gives loans to China?

I wonder why China has so much money and lend it to foreign countries. They still have many poor people in their country and their infra-structures, social security and welfare are far behind.

Not all Chinese live in Hong Kong or Shanghai. They are 1 in 6 humans. Obviously some may be poor.

It is only possible in undemoratic countries. The central government decides everything and people cannot say against it. China is lending money to other countries as "businesses and to expand their influences."

The ADB is run by Japan, with a Japanese management style, and based in the Philippines, with a Japanese 'President' who has to be treated liked the head of a country. They could easily decide themselves to reduce loans, but many of them are for large infrastructure projects that are both profitable for Japan, and in many cases, unnecessary for the country involved. Finance Minister Aso, a frequent speaker at ADB events, and with his own Japan banks deeply involved with the ADB, should know this.

@Schopenhauer, maybe that's the reason why when China lends money to poor countries, the interest rates are higher. They are giving loans with higher interest rates from the loan they are receiving which has lower interest rates. Business acumen at its best!!

Unbelievable small heart and narrow mind.

When a rich man lines up for handouts of meals meant for the homeless, should we call that normal or acceptable?

China has the second largest economy and second largest military budget of over $206 Billion a year with capitol reserves of $3.073 trillion (2018)

China should NOT be lining up for cheap loans at the ADB. They do not "NEED" it.

Japan has given aid to China every year, worth $1.2 billion. Total of about $30 billion. Last year, the central government decided to end the aid, which had reached a peak in 2005 at $1.7 billion.

$1.2 billion divided by 1.2 billion people equals 3 quarters of a rice ball per person per year according to @zichi.

$1.2 billion divided by 1.2 billion people equals 3 quarters of a rice ball per person per year according to @zichi

The problem is that despite being a "communist" country, some of the 1.2 Billion people take more than their share of the $1.2billion. They do not care about their fellow countrymen.

Chinese population today is 1.4 billion, in 1985, 1 billion. In1985, the Chinese were 22% of the world population. Today, they are 18.5%. The aid money given by Japan to China wasn't for rice balls but for infrastructures.

Swap capitalist for communist, and your statement is still true.

Swap capitalist for communist, and your statement is still true

It's even worse when it's capitalism disguised as communism...particularly when you are the world's 2nd largest economy but still need to beg for hand-outs from other countries...while somehow having the money to build fake islands in other people's waters, money to imprison & torture thousands of moslems and tibetians and build weapons of mass destruction in order to threaten smaller neighboring countries.

So the ADB should stop giving money to them. They don't need it.

Ir seems like the Chinese and the Americans know how to leverage money.

Definition of Chinese people, and of CHINA need to be revisited.

Maybe this is Aso's strategy for keeping China from getting too far ahead of Japan. Yeah, that's going to work.

China should lend to them first, instead of other countries for the Belt and Road

What business is it of Japan as to who gives loans to China?

> Japan is a big funder of ADB

Why should Japan fund a country with a larger economy than itself? Should China give the United States and Japan cheap money like they give Ethiopia?
