"Japan DOES need other nation's help if and when it wishes to boslter its own military."

Really? How?

Japan can builds it own military anytime it wants. It does not need Korea's help or permission.

Nonsense. South Korea was an ally of USA in Vietnam war, long time ago. The USA are only there to protect its business interest from North Korea attacks. Everyone knows SK main partner is now PRC. And moving closer every year.

South Korea has no ties to PRC and never will. But since some in Japan see SK as a potential enemy, they must justify it by using a lie.

The US is the main ally of both Japan and SK and that's an inescapable fact. Anything to the contrary is false propaganda, nothing more. Intelligent people understand this.

@AlexBecu

America you should speak up on this issue

What do you mean, you want America to publicly rebuke Japan? That's the only action the US can take if the US was to intervene.

Japan dropped the ball big time and any naval professional can tell the P-1 was not locked on.

Smithinjapan hits the nail on the head once again: "It's Japan's loss. SK doesn't NEED Japan for naval or other military exercises, but Japan DOES need other nation's help if and when it wishes to boslter its own military."

Typical conceited move by Abe administration.

*But it is the US's obligation to keep it's own strategic alliances intact. And not let one childish member with a massive complex single handedly destroy it.*

Really, this is a local issue.

It is all for the bests as ROK will complain about our naval ensign again. I think Japan needs to cancel all military exercises. The Pacific war taught Japan what happens when we send our military forces to other countries. Jan needs to mind our own business.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Methinks nothing could keep Korea-s from becoming one nation. It's a fate. It's so different from Taiwanese or HongKongers trying to be different from mainland Chinese. Japan finally could send all the Koreans who have been rejecting to become Japanese back to the unified country. If nothing can go against the flow of fate, New Korea would be back to a Tributary State under Chinese Master, where they would finally remember how numbing length of era they have been abused, raped, exploited by Chinese Mater.

Thousands of US troops are stationed in SK, as the USA is SK main ally.

Japan likes Quarrel with everyone. Must be too free with nothing to do in Japan except looking up to big brother America.

bamboo you are right... Any Military ship from Japan when they port to South Korea. Knetz will going to criticize it. And also the December conflict can be easily be solved but the South Korea is playing that they are victim. high/low altitude when the Japan aircraft flying, The Japan aircraft radio the South Korea Navy 3 times but no respond to it. South Korea Government should answer this question "Why the Navy didnt respond to the call?" but they just playing victim.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Hypothetically speaking, if Japan sent the Izumo to Busan, the Koreans would insist that the Japanese Navy not fly the rising Sun flag. The Japanese would say no and pull out of the visit. So why bother? It was a good move by the Abe government. Japan should write the Koreans. Bulid relations with India and Soutreast Asia and others.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

SK main Military ally is PRC.

Complete garbage statement!

No PRC troops are stationed in SK. Thousands of US troops are stationed in SK, as the USA is SK main ally.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

@SJ. Quoting BBC as a source doesn’t help. But Japanese press freedom, like women’s rights is very far on all lists.

My suspicion is that if the big Japanese boat thingy goes to SK, their intel ops will scan every hard drive, system software and technology. And maybe helped by China.

Ganbare Japan!Today 09:40 am JST

Japan should NOT be participating in military exercises with South Korea. Mistake by the Defense Ministry to continue the exercise. SK main Military ally is PRC.If SK is in the joint exercise, Japan must cancel it completely.

I don't agree this. Since this will be multilateral exersize starting from near Busan, Korea in April to Singapore in May. The Japanse goverment canceled only a port call in the Busan bay, As pointed out ealier, this treatment seems to be intended to prevernt further escalation of hatered.

extankerToday 07:02 am JST

Why is it childish? They aren't wanted there. Japan is just avoiding another potential conflict with South Korea.

Imagine the protests in SK if Japan's evil 'aircraft carrier' was to show up in port...

If Japan tries a port call in the Busan bay, Korean public opinion will be against at least using the official Japanese naval flag, "Rising Sun Flag", which Japan cannot accept. Korean even might be against obvious cooperation with Japanese military.

Anyways, I want the Japanese goverment to cancel any birateral excises between the South Korean military. They have been too impolite, and have been forgotten strategic cooperation among Western countries.

It's Japan's loss. SK doesn't NEED Japan for naval or other military exercises, but Japan DOES need other nation's help if and when it wishes to boslter its own military. Why do you think they get so upset if not included in US/SK training off the coast of NK? Japan cancelling this call just means less experience for them, and no loss to SK at all. They have everything Japan does from the US and then some, and can easily stand on their own. On the contrary, when the next disaster hits Japan, they best not expect the help they got from SK  for disasters like in Tohoku -- and it was next only to Taiwan, though you guys don't like to admit it. They probably still will help, since it helps the ordinary people, but based on the politicians' and right wingers' behaviour here they Don't deserve it.

What a unfortunate cancellation.

Regarding the comfort women issue, the following article is objective and accurate:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-47042684

In Japan, where the press freedom is in the league of the 3rd world, there are a lot of pressure on the press regarding the comfort women issue, not only by the Japanese government, but also by the right-wing dominated companies: https://japantoday.com/category/politics/Fear-and-favor-chill-newsroom-at-Japan-Times

Glad things are back to normal with the South Korean government continuing to act like petulant children.

The claim of the Japanese government and the JSD on the possible radar lock-on by S. Korean navy was refuted by their own former Chief of Staff of Japan's Air Self-Defense Force as early as on December 21, 2018, the next day of the incident.

Considering the deep-rooted tradition of distorting archaeology and history, It is not surprising that the Japanese government could have managed to manipulate and brainwash their citizens and provoke S. Korean responses without showing any single evidence for more than a month so far. Certainly, Ave deserves a landslide victory in the upcoming double elections. Good luck!

America you should speak up on this issue, you believed yourself those agreements would solve this problems. What happened?

What happened is we have an idiot in the White House. And someone who could clamp down on this like Mattis is gone.

4 ( +13 / -9 )

Given the current climate and state of affairs between the countries, it makes perfect sense to cancel the port visit.

To be honest, if they carried through with the port visit, it could actually create yet another incident between the two countries.

21 ( +23 / -2 )

S. Korea is no friend or ally of Japan. Being forced to be friends or allies won't solve any problems and it's only a show for the public.

All this agreements sign, compesation paid, apologies given, America was present and supported as and end to the historical problems between Japan and Korea. America you should speak up on this issue, you believed yourself those agreements would solve this problems. What happened?

Korea doing China’s bidding under uts new right wing government. Beware of whom you ally with.
