A very good plan, no need to always involve the US to fix problems.

I hope foreign minister will turn his head to Russia after China and question about Kurils will be solved forever.

This is a step towards ideal, respectful relations between the two.

China needs to stop fishing in Japanese waters. Get back to the table about the current dispute. Remember Japan needs Gas especially after 311.

"A very good plan, no need to always involve the US to fix problems."

The US, having already declared that the Senkakus are within the sphere of US defense of Japan is already involved as it is the only thing keeping China from talking them militarily. Just ask the other Asian countries currently being bullied by China.

Japan has long expressed concern over China’s growing assertiveness and widening naval reach in the Pacific and over what it calls the “opaqueness” of Beijing’s military budget.

Japan has a right to be concerned about China's military expansion.

2011 military spending by China is 12.7% of GDP while US is only 3.4% of GDP.

I would like to know why China has to spend so much for military expansion. China has been already agressively investing a lot in Africa including Algeria more than anyone else. Why is that?.

Too easy and too simple to try and say to oneself, oh look, finally Japan and China are behaving like 2 adults, but China is TOO BIG, and the only way Japan can get any respect from CHINA is to let them know that BIG DADDY USA is watching their back, China understands this that is why they use North Korea to scare South Korea and Japan, they are all looking out for themselves. China has too many people, they will one day want a car, so far those cars will run on gasoline, so we have these rumors of China drilling for oil in disputed waters, in this case disputing it with Japan, but they, the Chinese are also disputing with VIetnam, the Philippines etc..

globalwatcher, you have answered your own question. China's hugh investments in raw material and natural resources require an insurance policy- that is a modern armed force to protect its global interests. Let's pray she does not end up like Japan back in the 1930s!

Thanks, Kuro.

That's my concern too. Japan needs to play very carefully here in geopolitics. There are many hardcore anti-China presidential candidates for 2012 election. If one of hem goes to Washington, I am afraid that a hell will break.

Why not just launch a couple of Global Hawks or Predator drones over international waters to confirm your suspicions?

Good thoughts, Weasi. Did you know a couple days ago, Chinese submarines went through Miyako-jima and Okinawa with no incidents? China was testing a water to see what Japan would do. Disturbing.

Smash these Chinese submarines What are Surrounding of Senkaku this is the best diplomacy that exists with these arrogant communist.

Diaoyu Islands have been a part of China since the Ming Dynasty, US Congressman David Wu remarked in a statement at the Georgetown University.

“Historically and geographically the Diaoyu Islands have been a part of China since the Ming Dynasty. Japanese sources have acknowledged Chinese ownership since the late 1700s,” said David Wu.

Japan only laid claim to the islands after its war with China in 1895, David Wu added.

In 1945 Japan agreed to accept the Potsdam Proclamation. And according to the proclamation, Japan should return to China/Taiwan and Diaoyu Islands it had illegally seized from China. Japan returned Taiwan to China but refused to return Diaoyu Islands to China.

And in 1951 Japan unilaterally signed the San Francisco Treaty with the US, which enabled the US to exercise the so-called “administrative rights” over the Diaoyu Islands. But this illegal treaty has never been accepted by the China government.

The US committed an error by letting Japan to manage the islands instead of returning the islands to China. This is an error made by the US that needs to be corrected, David Wu said. .
