"It's the opposite from what I am reading as the article Strangerland linked shows. China wants Trump like Ohio St. fans want Harbaugh at Michigan: 0-5 and no playoffs."

The Chinese prefer Mr. Trump because he is utterly amoral. He is strictly transactional in his dealings. As long as the deal looks good and HE looks good all is well. The Chinese can understand that and manage him effectively. Someone with actual moral values and who is capable of genuine heartfelt outrage at the way the CCP treats its own, who isn't fooled by their flattery or bluster and who can effectively communicate that outrage and turn it into policy scares the CCP witless.

"One might also say that the USA needs to be shortened up [sic], its been overstepping itself around the world for too long, someone needs to check it."

The US learned a very hard lesson on the morning of 7 December 1941. They have no intention of being surprised like that ever again. If that means keeping some likely enemies at arm length so be it. There is nothing written anywhere that says Iran, North Korea, Russia, Venezuela or China has some inherent right to use the US Dollar and US banking system to conduct their foreign trade through. If the US does not want those nations using its sovereign currency and its banking system that is the US sovereign right as a nation. Too bad if those nations don't like it. The US is not obliged to help its enemies that way. Let them trade sea shells among each other (about all the Iranian Rial or Venezuelan Bolivar are worth). Nobody wants to conduct trade in Rubles or Yuen. Their problem to deal with. The US has no obligation to help them.

Fighto: "Good to see Japan standing up to bully Communist China."

Hahaha... "standing up", eh? More like mumbling before saying, "Oh... nothing" as China shouts, "What?" and then watching Japan scuttle and hide behind the US. How'd they stand up to China the other day regarding Hong Kong? Yeah, that got RAVE reviews!

"Spreading misinformation about miracle cures"

I forget... which Japanese university said they had promising medicine in the works and the government dumped a boatload of money into it? How'd that end up? Or was that the miracle cure they said they are preparing and gave a heap of money to the US for Moderna? Hard to keep track.

"It is right for the Abe Government to call them out strongly."

Can't stop laughing on that one. What'd he say? "It's regrettable"?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yeah, I can just imagine their thoughts: Let's get the USA! How? I know, let's release this virus onto our own people in our own country first. And lets watch them die as the virus, hopefully, leaves the country.

They have done this so well that even the victims don't suspect them. By denying that the nature of the virus transmission from person to person, it was able to be under the radar. You're also assuming the CCP is not prepared to sacrifice their own people and that a government looks after its people first and foremost. That is simply not the case. In China's case it is about power and the "mandate."

the CCP isn't happy with the current administration and is praying for a Biden win

"A govt of lies, by the lies, always lies will be perished from the earth.

And that doesn't scare the CCP?"

They understand it perfectly. What they cannot grasp is the whole idea of self governance where the just powers of a government are derived from the consent of the governed. THAT is what scares them.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

A govt of lies, by the lies, always lies will be perished from the earth.

And that doesn't scare the CCP?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

the CCP isn't happy with the current administration and is praying for a Biden win

The CCP is hoping for a Trump win:

the former Chinese trade negotiator Long Yongtu reportedly told a Shenzhen conference late last year, “We want Trump to be reelected; we would be glad to see that happen.” The president’s tweets make him “easy to read,” Long said, and thus “the best choice in an opponent for negotiations.” In May, Hu Xijin, the outspoken editor of the Communist Party–-run newspaper Global Times, tweeted at Trump that the Chinese “wish for your reelection because you can make America eccentric and thus hateful for the world. You help promote unity in China.” Hu added that “Chinese netizens call you ‘Jianguo,’ meaning ‘help to construct China.’”

the main reason Beijing may not mind another Trump term: His style of foreign policy—unilateral, personalized, and fixated on dollars-and-cents matters—has severely weakened America’s traditional system of alliances. While President Barack Obama attempted a “pivot” to Asia, Trump has taken only occasional interest in the region, especially beyond trade and his fleeting dalliances with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. Beijing has surely noted that Trump has strained relations with America’s two closest allies in the region—South Korea and Japan—with his persistent and petty squabbles over trade and the costs of U.S. military bases in those countries.

That suits Beijing just fine. As Washington steps back, China tries to lurch forward. Beijing has become more and more assertive over the course of the Trump presidency. The Chinese propaganda machine is capitalizing on Trump’s woeful response to the coronavirus pandemic to mock the president and American democracy, raise doubts about U.S. global leadership, and offer up China as a more responsible world power. The Global Times’ Hu is having a field day with Trump’s struggles, pouring forth an almost daily barrage of jibes. “You have no idea how to control epidemic,” he tweeted about Trump in June. “If the grumpy America were someone in life, how nasty the person is.” In another, he simply proclaimed, “Washington is rather stupid.” China’s government, with its superior virus-busting skills, “bolstered international confidence in beating the virus,” Liu Xiaoming, China’s ambassador to the United Kingdom recently argued. (Though it is far from clear whether these comments are having a tangible impact on global public opinion, many of China’s diplomats and officials certainly see them as effective.)

"More seriously, on the hydroxychloroquine issue, I know there are studies that show its effectiveness. But they tend to come with caveats. Crudely put, it works for some, but can have bad consequences for others. This is in the conclusion of one study:"

I had to take that stuff as a malaria preventative for a job in an underdeveloped tropical nation. It is rough on the system and can damage your liver and kidneys.

"Actually the U.S. has done quite a bit against China, that's why the CCP isn't happy with the current administration and is praying for a Biden win."

I marvel at this lie being propagated that Mr. Biden or any other Democrat would be softer on China than the current administration. It ignores how many Democrats are sons and daughters of Taiwanese and Hong Kong immigrants or are themselves immigrants from these places. Or you have people like my wife, a child of the Cultural Revolution, who will tell you "Mao took everything". She had to leave China for a chance to go to school her family was so reviled by the CCP. If anything the Democrats will press China even harder on the atrocities they are committing against the Uygurs and the people of Hong Kong. The Democrats are emphatically not the friends of the PRC.

Japan defense review slams China's virus 'disinformation'.

Japan slams wrong govt. The biggest disinformation is the low rate of infections by Abe govt.

A govt of lies, by the lies, always lies will be perished from the earth.

Who would inject disinfectant? Herbal medicine? Good for a lot of ailments but most likely not effective on corona.

@serrano

My post was in response to a strongly anti-communist China post. I'm no fan of the CCP, but attacking China on the medical pronouncements of a political element is not very helpful. Otherwise we'd be attacking the US on the medical pronouncements of the current president. Basically, I was joking (it's how I survive).

More seriously, on the hydroxychloroquine issue, I know there are studies that show its effectiveness. But they tend to come with caveats. Crudely put, it works for some, but can have bad consequences for others. This is in the conclusion of one study:

"Whether zinc supplementation in combination with CQ/HCQ should be recommended for high risk or also younger patients outside of clinical trials, as a prevention or treatment approach during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, should be currently considered only on a case-by-case basis."

I think the coronavirus is a weapon the Chinese unleashed right after the US made them sign the trade deal.

If that's the truth, it worked. They would have exploited the vulnerability in the US political system that is the stupidity of the populace in voting in someone like Trump. For even if the Chinese started the virus, the Americans are long going to be the last country in the world still dying of it, and arguing that masks are not necessary with their dying breaths.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world will have to continue with our quarantine of America from the rest of us, to prevent them from spreading their disease around to the rest of countries that will have brought it in line.

Americans are willing to die for their right to not wear a mask. And they will. Die that is. While not wearing masks.

The CCP needs to be held accountable. The corporations around the world that threw their money at Chinese manufacturing to make their own products overseas for the cheapest price to sell for extremely high prices back in the US or other home countries for the sake of profit beyond need to be held accountable for helping to create this issue as well. Remember how many tech companies complained their blueprints were "stolen" because the CCP made a law in China that said they would not manufacture parts for foreign corporations without complete blueprints of the products? HELLOOOOOO!

Can't complain when you're stupid and greedy enough to not see that trap sitting right in front of your face but still jump right in.

Trump wants to poke China and distract the US people more

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It’s called CCP propaganda kids. And run from it like the plague.

This has all been known for years, but finally it’s gotten so ridiculous they are saying it publicly. We see the rapid rise of an awkward power not quite sure how to wield and Japan will have an important role to play as we march on in these rough waters. The CCPs models for anything are tainted by opportunism and warped by nature, so recognizing that is a start. Having said that, bravo China for the largest economic rise in human history, but now you are at the table. If you don’t try to own it we are all good.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Neither the US or Japan will actually do jack against China.

Actually the U.S. has done quite a bit against China, that's why the CCP isn't happy with the current administration and is praying for a Biden win.

Hydroxychloroquine, injecting disinfectant, or herbal medicine? If those were my only choices, I think I'd go with the latter.

Hydroxy combined with zinc has been shown to be effective. Google hides this pretty well, but it's out there.

Who would inject disinfectant? Herbal medicine? Good for a lot of ailments but most likely not effective on corona.

Hello Kitty do you have any idea why the US is here at all, ever wondered why you can live the lifestyle you can in this country ? Now maybe you might understand why, and thank you .

If there was no USA in the region imagine Japan being the next Hong Kong or North Korea if you can.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Fighto!

I understand the cause. It’s just that I don’t think that’ll happen. These are corporations that the government protects. They in a sense are the government. Look what happened to the farmers. Japan will never put an import tax like that.

I think the coronavirus is a weapon the Chinese unleashed right after the US made them sign the trade deal. They don’t have the concept of fairness. You win the wrestling match. You get your tires slashed. Gee I wonder who did it?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

A Japanese defense official presenting the report cited as examples comments made on Twitter by China's foreign ministry that US forces may have brought the virus to Wuhan, as well as claims that Chinese herbal medicines can treat the disease.

It's only the tip of a much larger iceberg. China's propaganda style is subtle and elusive with an aim of incremental effects, which is harder to identify. Majority of their propaganda channels are "non-official" involving civilians and expats (undercover?). They also send mixed messages to targets, using sticks and carrots at the same time.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Come up with a plan instead of just asking them to leave. It won’t happen.

@ quercetum. For a start, I would suggest the Japanese government , and other democratic governments, put increasing import tariffs on products made in Communist China. Canon Printer made in China? Hit them with a 25% import tax 1 year after being given notice , 35% after 2 years...etc. Until the Chinese made items become prohibitively expensive. Hit Apple with massive, increasing tariffs also. Make an iPhone cost $4000 instead of $1500.

Hitting the profits of these huge corporations is the only way the ween them off the addiction to Communist China. Governments have to get aggressive, and soon.

Tokyoite:

Japan not doing too well? Have you actually been paying attention?

I have. Have you? Perhaps you've been comparing Japan with countries like India and China. That's setting the bar low. If you'd like to see countries setting an example, can I suggest you look at HK, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, New Zealand, etc. As I said before, if every other country had fewer cases than Japan, you'd be panicking. You see the state USA and Brazil is in, and you just rest on your laurels. Complacency can be dangerous.

mmkwdw:

Prepare for War between US (& it's Allies) and China.

Allies? What allies? Oh, you mean Russia and Saudi Arabia?

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

In order to fight China you have to fight greed first. Money talks and it speaks Mandarin. You can’t buy a Free Hong Kong jersey but you can buy a “Kill Cops” one. Corporations are not going to choose principles over profit: General Motors, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Intel, Proctor & Gamble, Nike, Coca Cola, Boeing, Starbucks, KFC, NBA. They’re not leaving.

Big Japanese corporations, such as Toyota, Panasonic, Canon etc, should be strongly encouraged to exit Communist China within 1 year.

Come up with a plan instead of just asking them to leave. It won’t happen.

What are you trying to say, or protect the mass media? It sure reads like it. Anger, not even close. try truth. Question is, why does the media not use the term SARS? The world for that matter? No no anger, just truth. I can tell you why and it has to do with money and economics, pure and simple to save face.

Spreading misinformation about miracle cures - like nonsense herbal "medicine" - to this super-deadly disease is a disgrace.

Hydroxychloroquine, injecting disinfectant, or herbal medicine? If those were my only choices, I think I'd go with the latter.

@Bjorn Tomention

One might also say that the USA needs to be shortened up [sic], its been overstepping itself around the world for too long, someone needs to check it.

Look around the western Pacific for example, it has no business being here but it's been standing on everyone's toes for the last 75 years.

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

China's spying, lying, and people are crying and dying. Will the bulletts start flying after the vilifying or will China stop buying when its people stop trying and they're finished multiplying.

China needs to be shortened up , its been over stepping itself around the world for too long, some one needs to check it.

Look around the Pacific for example, it's standing on everyone's toes , Japan is China's most powerful neighbor so it is natural Japan is the one to check the bully.

Big Japanese corporations, such as Toyota, Panasonic, Canon etc, should be strongly encouraged to exit Communist China within 1 year. They survived very well before without very unstable and unethical China. The Chinese economy is rapidly collapsing anyway, more reason to cease ALL trade and foreign relations.

But getting back to the virus, lets just call it for what the real name is SARS2, not the bogus bought WHO camp in Wuhan that made the name Coronavirus and then later the sell out media CDC named it COVID19. What a farce, it is SARS2.

I think you might be confused about this. The virus itself (ie. a lone particle floating in the air) is still called SARS-CoV-2 by everyone. Covid 19 is the human disease that occurs when someone is infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

To put it another way, SARS-CoV-2 is the equivalent of HIV, while Covid 19 is the equivalent of AIDS.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Neither the US or Japan will actually do jack against China. This is just for show. Economies are way too integrated now thanks to globalization and many US and Japanese politicians are bought and paid for by Chinese money.

China has been spreading "disinformation" about the coronavirus and its naval activities are a matter of "grave" concern, Japan said in its annual defense review published Tuesday.

Japan is right.

28 ( +33 / -5 )

China's government is such a disappointment. Lying, causing trouble everywhere, its like a competition with Russia on who can be the most disruptive influence on western interests. There is no merit in it but they continue to be aggressive with anyone with a different perspective than the one Beijing has.

If China stopped doing all these things in the name of gaining superiority in the world, there would be much more harmony and cooperation. Russia too could be much better by not interfering in world events and stealing the land of others.

It is nations who believe they should hold more power or have a greater leadership role that make the most waves and cause the most problems. Disinformation is just one of the tools in their toolbox.

22 ( +31 / -9 )

re article: China hit back on Tuesday, attacking Pompeo's claims as "unjustified".

Yet again China has proven it is dishonest when it can't keep an written and signed document agreement regarding HK. with the UK and a Tribunal final decision regarding the disputed waters. All other nations have been at peace except yes China, when they have no reason to do so especially in today's day and age. But getting back to the virus, lets just call it for what the real name is SARS2, not the bogus bought WHO camp in Wuhan that made the name Coronavirus and then later the sell out media CDC named it COVID19.
