why is a Japanese delegation there? They are sideline viewers with no role

Why? Talk about a fly in the ointment. This is a matter between Korea and US. The desperation being portrayed is quite frankly jarringly hilarious.

1 ( +16 / -15 )

Pathetic. Worse than being left on the sidelines is to fly somewhere so one is visibly left on the sidelines.

2 ( +16 / -14 )

The world is making a murderer a hero.

Japan has a direct interest in this matter. Or has everyone already forgotten about the missiles that NK flew over Japan, and the influence NK has had on Japan's defense posture over the past year? IF these talks lead to a Peace Treaty and normalization of relations, Japan will have no choice but to play a significant role economically. NK itself has stated that it would like to normalize relations with Japan, and that they were prepared to discuss resolution of the abduction issue. Both the US and SK have acknowledged Japan's interests and concerns and have kept Japan closely in the loop. This is all clear in the news reports. This puerile parroting of the "irrelevance" and "sidelined" nonsense is getting old and irrelevant itself. Neither Kim, Moon or Trump have said or done anything to suggest this view, just the resident forum J-haters. This article is simply an English translation of a Japanese paper story directed at the Japanese readers telling them what their government is doing. It's not some global declaration aimed at non-Japanese readers. Japan is sending a team to follow the meeting. As a US ally they don't need to send an intelligence team to "secretly" gather information.

Japan has a direct interest in this matter.

Maybe interest but no role. They will bark like a chihuahua on the sideline about abductees and we will ignore them and think how pathetic they are

If Japan's interests are so valid they have they not set up direct negotiations with NK like Trump has? Because they are barking chihuahuas with no influence.

Having interest and being relevant are not the same ossan

0 ( +15 / -15 )

I agree with OssanAmerica 100 %. Japan has a big interest in Summit, and diplomats will watch over it like hawks.Perhaps giving advice to Trump over the course of it. They will remind Trump to bring up issue of the 17 Japanese kidnapees still imprisoned.

I am optimistic and excited about The Summit, and will be watching it keenly. I have faith in Trump looking out for Japan as her number one allie, and Kim-san has a great chance to modernize the new North Korea with huge economic partnership with Japan.

-9 ( +13 / -22 )

Haha...what they gonna do? Press their ears against the closed door?

I'm sure the US will share any information it deems relevant to Japan' interests.

No need for them to be there. Hurts to be left out dunnit?

-10 ( +7 / -17 )

Seems plausible there could be lowere level meetings between other government underlings, but also seems like Abe wants some of the spotlight.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

I predict the summit will be a disaster with Trump threatening Kim before the end.

like dancing awkwardly close to a couple in hopes of making it a threesome only to be rebuffed.

With positive thinking, I am hoping for a successful summit.

which world is this? the world of tRump supporters doesn't count as participating in reality. they're delusional at best.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I hope there's a sign on the door saying 'No entry to Japanese officials'. In fact, they could take a leaf out of some Japanese establishments, and just say 'No Japanese'. (Now does that means language or people?).

4 ( +9 / -5 )

@Ganbare Japan!

Japan has a big interest in Summit

Yet, Japan has done everything it could to stop any dialogue happening between US and North Korea. Couple of weeks ago Abe and Japan were really happy by cancelation of meeting between Kim and Trump.

And pigs will fly!

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Yeah, Trump meets with Kim, Abe supports Trump. Trump cancels meeting with Kim, Abe supports Trump. Trump goes ahead with meeting, Abe supports Trump. Trump shoots someone on the street, Abe supports Trump. Sick of sycophants.

Pretty seless them being in Singapore, but that's the way most governments and public bodies behave.  Waste money on useless endeavours

8 ( +9 / -1 )

OssanAmerica: is COURSE Japan is interested; the problem is that they are irrelevant here. Them rushing off to Singapore is pathetic.

0 ( +12 / -12 )

As long as they are not staying at the same $6,000-per-night hotel on my tax money, I don't mind.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Like Dump, it is a simple PR campaign for themselves. The J-government would look weak if it didn't look like it was involved with a meeting with NK in it own backyard. Dump is more interested with side deal meetings with China and Russia for their family business in exchange for American democracy.

That is why he wanted individual deals with G7 countries because he can bargain for Ivanka's patents/products and hotels in these countries.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Too many cynical people here. I am happy most people though are optimistic about the Summit, and agree with my opinions. Trump and Kim-san will make a deal. It wont be perfect, but will make compromises. And it will be very good for Japan.

I am watching video now of Trump and Kim-san heading into conference resort in Singapore. It is very exciting. People are taking selfies and clapping. All of Singapore Island is under lockdown.

I only think what is the meaning of this Japan's delegation at that epic meeting to Peace Treaty of US-NK. Japan to be a "hinge" to the door smoothly open, it's too early.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The deal will be that Trump will give NK anything that they want as long as they give him some positive press in the media, and China lets his family do business with their China's financing. He just wants something for his ego because Pres. Obama has embarrassed him in the past.

Banana Republic much pres. Dump?

Japan trying to sneak into US-North Korea summit !!! ???. What in the world is going on with Japan!!! Bad enough with Rodman trying to muscle into official state affair, and now we have Japan tyring to squeeze into the talks.

free trip to get out of Japan for a bit and garner votes pretending to care about the abductees

Hilarious is: people commenting with no clue about geopolitics :)

It seems that the T clowns are afraid that their Leader has to share 'the Nobel' :)

The recent past suggests that Japan was quite happy to pressure North Korea, sanction North Korea, inform on their shipping movements etc.

The more distant past involved bombing North Korea, interfering in elections, imprisoning them, murdering them etc.

During the Korean War Japan also supplied US forces with a large number of supplies that made a lot of Japanese wealthy.

With a hint that events in Norrh Korea could be about to change;the Japanese government will be looking to jump on the bandwagon yet again.....

That sideshows are difficult to comprehend for the average redneck is understandable.

It goes beyond the capacity of their embedded CPU :)

Japanese delegation ? What kind of joke is it ? Who invited the delegation ?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

With just two days to go before the historic U.S.-North Korea summit, senior officials of Japan arrived in Singapore on Sunday to collect information about the outcome of the meeting.

In other words they're going to hang around pretending they're relevant and important. Sounds like a bit of waste of time and money.

@Ganbare Japan!

Perhaps giving advice to Trump over the course of it.

Trump doesn't need Japan's advice.

They will remind Trump to bring up issue of the 17 Japanese kidnapees still imprisoned.

Let's be realistic here, the Japanese abductee issue is none of Trump's business and won't be brought up during the summit.

This is something that Abe himself must bring up during his forthcoming Pyongyang visit, which will be made possible only if Tokyo offered to pay $20 billion in cash.

I have faith in Trump looking out for Japan as her number one allie

You shouldn't. Trump has only one true ally, Israel. Everyone else are enemies fleecing the US economy, Japan inclusive.
