Japan's chief government spokesman said Tuesday that Tokyo had "grave concerns" about events in Thailand, hours after martial law was declared there.
"We have grave concerns about the situation in Thailand," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters in Tokyo. "We once again strongly urge all parties concerned to act in a self-restrained manner without using violence."
"We strongly hope differences among the parties concerned will be settled peacefully through the democratic process."
Japan is one of Thailand's biggest investors, with several major manufacturers having plants there.
Automaker Nissan told AFP in Tokyo: "Currently we are assessing the situation"
Suga added Japan's government was making utmost efforts to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in Thailand.

Hope the spokes person had a grave face when announcing this, perhaps hands on hips too. It makes so much difference when....who...? Says ......nothing?

In Thailand, the ruling party gained its support from rural voters by giving them handouts and subsidies and the prime minister has now been ousted by the courts for this illegal conduct. I'm not surprised the LDP has 'grave concerns' about the situation.

Sherman, where did you find flights for that price?!?!

@ Sherman - keep your head down, Sir. However, I reckon Westerners (of non-Asian background) would be at almost no risk of being caught up in any problems. $200? hmmm that's tempting ...

From investment point of view, Japan may now review which destination is the best Vietnam, Thailand or China.
