It's really the BOJ's job to fight inflation. Not much the government can do directly, and thus much of the fiscal resources will be wasted.
Indeed, the govt should let the inflation run its course, which would put stronger widespread public pressure on employers to raise wages. By mitigating the situation, the govt is simply allowing the employers to continue their wage-suppression policies.

Right... he'll ask companies to increase salaries, even with a pretty please. They won't, but he'll still give them more subsidies. He'll ask the BOJ to stop devaluating the yet. Kuroda won't. What's the guy gonna do?
Zizi
Scruffy. No tie.
Sven Asai
Yes, wearing no tie. Of course, also in the second meaning this match between him and the inflation is not a tie, but obviously a clear win for the inflation.

He looks old enough to have lived through 2 world wars!
Where do they find these ancient men?!
Godan
“They” were bemoaning the lack of inflation for decades and now that we have it, it has to be fought. The powers-that-be, including the media, do love to play their games with our lives.
Sigh.

As Finance Minister his responsibilities are to make flaccid statements with no basis in reality in a serious manner. Ensure the LDPs supporters get their cut of tax payer money. Guarantee that politicians won’t suffer inflation personally. So it’s really a focus on everyone except tax payers.

I thought Also was the finance minister, I guess when times are bad he switches out.
REDWhiteBlue
Who cares? In Japan the inflation rate is at 3.5% and in the West it is in the double digits. BTW, he is wearing a mask. Are you?
Seigi
You guys artificially created it! There's no way to stop inflation under LDP leadership. It will stay.
Tell_me_bout_it
Yeah mate, not in seven hells wages will grow in this country.
Mark
Why do I have the feelings that NO ONE really knows what is going on!!!
Lindsay
Just the same as the last dozen finance ministers have said over the last decade and nothing has changed.

The first sentence is the tatemae, the second sentence is the honne.
Inflation is already more than 75% above the BOJ’s “elusive” target of 2%. Instead of claiming victory they continue to snap up public debt. The school children can see what is going on here.
The cost of living crisis could be better addressed by ending the prevailing borrow-and-spend policies, rather than continuing them.
Beto Ramirez
Vowing means he’ll sit around and do nothing.
BertieWooster
Oh! There's no hope then!
antifun
Expecting public pressure to raise wages because of lower purchasing power is wishful thinking and not based on any evidence. Fighting the inflation so eagerly wanted for years by BOJ shows the discord and ineptitude in economic management between LDP and BOJ.
kurisupisu
Suzuki is just releasing more hot air which is going to make matters worse!
Zizi
Well, I care. Hence my comment.
And of course I'm not wearing a mask. I'm living in a socially normal country in Europe.
Japan is doomed financially. Too many greedy, clueless idiots in charge.

His hand gesture is accurate.
YAP YAP YAP. Nothing but YAP and no improvements on anything.

Aren't the BoJ still fighting deflation?
quote: a new form of capitalism.
This is happening around the world. Governments are levelling down, making everyone poor and dependent upon state support. Then they can all operate like the CCP.
Hercolobus
Before it was fighting deflation.
Sh1mon M4sada
He huffed, he puffed, and blew down the fence, except it's not the BoJ fence.
JeffLee
Yep, the US dollar is basically worthless these days. LOL. How are your crypto holdings doing, by the way?
TokyoLiving
New world order coming..
Very low, very low, waaaahahahahahahaaaa!!!..
