Anyone who financially or militarily supports Russia is supporting a future without democracy. Therefore, even symbolic gestures among democratic nations are important.

Good to see European and Asian countries getting together and forming alliances.
Taiwan and Lithuania is another unlikely geographical hook-up - yet they have commonality in that they both have big bully assholes intimidating and bothering them them all the time.

Two countries that have borders with Russia.
Fighto!
Are you seriously calling the Japanese military a "poodle"? Laughable. Russia would be very unwise to underestimate Japan, considering past history.
Great to see an alliance being signed between Japan and Finland - both nations of democracy and freedom.

Good that democracies are creating a dense interconnected web of alliances across the globe to aid and support each other in the face of the growing aggression of oppressive dictatorships.
The barbaric, brutal and murderous attack by russia on Ukraine has been a salutary and much needed wake-up call to all civilised nations.

Two countries that are opposite sides of the world. But both Finland and Japan share a lot of similarities with one another.

The more friends you have the bigger group you have supporting you. Russia has….Iran, Syria, North Korea maybe China Maybe. Makes sense to make friends, Japan has the EU, USA, Australia, NZ, Japan is not alone.
‘yes those uniforms, cool in chitty chitty bang bang, not cool in 2022.

Pledging is fine. It is the first step. he next step is action. Of course neither Finland nor Japan can or, should or send troops to Ukraine fight the Russians. But they can send weapons as the Americans and Germans and French are doing. Every small, medium or big shipment counts. Finland and Japan by their pledging to help Ukraine will set an example for other countries to do so. he more the better. Russia must be driven out of Ukraine including the Crimea. Soon!

You are not a citizen so they do not need it. Even if you are the government still does not need your agreement.

Really, Just because Japanese interests align with other nations, you trot out the old anti US diatribe because they wont be Russian or Chinese lapdogs and refuse to support the West.
Very see through comment, again, from the autocrat support team.

Curious who 'they' might be? I have been under the impression that investigations thus far have not found conclusive evidence showing who did it, but then I do not read Kremlin media, nor extremist social media or other extremist sites where the Qanon crowds post

Countries like Finland are getting accustomed to Japanese diplomacy -probably for the first time. Quite interesting developments and new experiences that would contribute shaping the near future in democratic world.

Interesting. Seems Japan is also making alliances with other countries around the world in a strategic militaristic method as to combat Russia, China, and North Korea. Great to see Japan follow how The United States Of America does things to hold back the Axis Of Evil.

Formal alliance between Japan and Finland is a great gesture of expressing to Putin and all the world that both countries do not agree at all with the coward military attack from Russia against Ukraine. This gesture has a great meaning and for sure demands courage and clearly express the condemnation of war to resolve questions that should be discussed without destruction and killing of innocent civilians as it is being, war crimes are being committed. Incredibly pleased to see an undoubted attitude of solidarity towards Ukrainians. #StopPutin #stopwar

Russia is a paper tiger that believes in the use of human wave cannon-fodder.

Exactly what needed to be done, Excellent move by the Japanese powers to ensure a safe future for its people. Now they have several nations who they can help or be helped by. If you can't realise this then you are not really worth talking to.

the majority of the world actually believes USA, Saudi and Israel as the Axis of Evil

This seems to benefit Japan more than Finland. Japan won’t come to anyones aid. If anything Japan would be just looking to take the northern islands back if a shooting war did start.

The building of alliances around the world could pay big dividends for Japanese security.

Japan & Finland. Perfect match. Love Japan. K

Have to agree, the uniforms do look a bit Ruritanian.

Based on videos of the Nordstream 1 complex taken by a Swedish submersible the pipelines appear to have been blown outward, implying the explosive devices were inside the pipeline and not placed on the exterior. Draw you own conclusions from that. Some 50 or so meters of pipe are completely missing.

The Invasion of Ukraine by Russia is an event that does not need individual Countries to express their bilateral unity over - it is quite simply, a breech of International law, and Russia needs to realize that, and back out....
Having Japan and Finland shake hands and say "we agree with each other" does diddly squat...
Putin and Xi, are today's "Hitler" - separate but equal. Putin is invading other Countries, Xi commits Racial genocide within his own.

Not an alliance. Just an accord or agreement. They will not rush to each others defence if attacked, which is an actual alliance.
It is however a very positive step forward.
dbsaiya
They really need to do something about those uniforms.
Stephen Chin
The next step is action.
The more the better.

Yeah, Finland and Japan, take ‘em into the brackets, from the North and then southwards.

Two way trade between Finland and China was approximately $10 billion in 2020. Japan and South Korea came in at $1.8 and $1.2 billion respectively. Seems plenty free and open to me.

Japan should stay out of this.
The leadership of the "alliance" Japan is part of does not care about the people in the member states. Their focus has always been to start a war with Russia. They even blew up pipelines that will cause Germany to freeze, they don't care about who suffers...

Aim for peace through diplomacy and talks...
Pause the war mongering.

I heard the United States is putting pressure on the European Union to pay for the leasing of weapons supplied by the United States.
The recent visit of many EU countries to japan It makes me think that Europe Union
wants a greater commitment in economic terms from Japan.
Anyway, the War has been very profitable for some countries.

My dear friend, why are you talking about "Putin" and not Russian people?
You are afraid?
Japan has made a great deal of "great gesture" toward Russia... in August 1945 it gives some unexpected result
Some people in Japane still dislike this result.
No need to ring your sword if you're not ready for battle

Pointless game of vanity. Japan will lose everything once the war in Taiwan will start and end with the Chinese reunification of Taiwan.

What a biased way to say "I'm a lapdog and I do whatever the US asks of me, regardless of my own consequences".. pfffff !!..
