The second and third paragraphs of the article are in clear opposition to each other, what kind of "candid" exchange for "constructive" relationship will the Minister hopes to achieve by "demanding" China release a prisioner and behaves responsibly?

If more than a dozen Japanese citizens have been detained in China for supposedly spying maybe it is time to accept this is the way of China of doing things, acting surprised of this happening (yet) again will lead nowhere.

China's continual rise to great nation status need not terrify you, Mr Hamada, Foreign Minister of Japan.

ask China to act “responsibly” on global issues including Russia's war on Ukraine.

if I can believe media and politicians statements, China is pushing for peace.

maybe he will be shocked when he goes there to see that China is actually doing much better than Japan?

It is good for Japan to have peaceful relations with its neighbor China . . . .

The only thing China is pushing is its own ideological agenda.

Tell that to the countries handing out long prison sentences in sham trials.

Ho home Mr.Hayashi, not a single word from you or Kishida will be believed by the Chinese. You are a backstabber!

Because it is pure fiction. China is a hostile belligerent coercive nation that others do not trust or believe. Great nations have respect from a majority of nations and the people in them. China will never have that while the CCP rules there. Even Chinese citizens are more and more disillusioned by the CCP with long term covid lockdowns, loss of jobs, banking sector fragility and cities and regions using medical funds for covid testing leaving the elderly with cut benefits and a looming increase in retirement age. Increased protests in China have the ruling party worried. This is a nation falling not rising. Watch out for the failed state of China.

It is important for Japan to continue promoting a vision of a "free and open Indo-Pacific" and to work with other "like-minded" countries to maintain peace and stability in the region. Japan needs demand the immediate release of the detained Japanese national and demand an explanation from China, on its knees, for his detention. Japan must remind China to act responsibly on global issues before it is slapped down for its hubris.

Japan will not ignore China's aggressive actions any longer. Japan is now prepared to take a strong and forceful stance against China's abuse of its citizens, which disregards international laws and norms. As tensions continue to rise in the region, Japan must make it clear that it will not tolerate any further provocation from a piss-ant like China.
