Economic security?

What a vague term.

There certainly isn’t economic security in Japan with GDP and consumption falling.

Japanese people are becoming poorer day by day whilst taxes rise along with food and energy prices.

More waffle from Kishida!

If China is in fact getting econically stronger, instead of going war, we should join the belt and road initiative and BRICS.

but unelected Kishida has two jumbo jets and spends all his time traveling the world, so I guess he thinks Japanese are ants.

If China is in fact getting econically stronger, instead of going war, we should join the belt and road initiative and BRICS.

BRICS is a road to nowhere and China is falling into the same sort of GDP stagnation and price deflation Japan experienced in the 1990s, accelerated by demographic trends that are even worse than those of Japan.

On the sidelines of the U.N. climate meeting, Kishida also met with the president of Egypt and pledged assistance of up to $230 million to support the country, which has been affected by the fallout of Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza.

During talks with the king of Jordan, Kishida also committed $100 million in aid to the country which also shares a border with Israel.

It bears casually keeping in mind that Egypt’s economy was kind of a mess even before 7 October. But things have declined since then. Moody’s had downgraded the country’s sovereign credit rating notch to Caa1 from B3 (outlook stable), on October 5th 2023, citing their ever worsening debt affordability. Several days before that, their S&P PMI fell to 48.7, the month previous, the 34th straight month of contraction in their non-oil private sector due to huge declines in output and new orders. And before that, their annual urban inflation rate in Egypt rose to an adjusted 37.4% in August 2023, up from 36.5% in the previous month. Jordan's economic numbers are considerably better than Egypt's, and have been since the summer, no doubt aided, at least in some small part and measure, that Her Majesty sits on the Board of Trustees of the WEF.

France is no one’s ally. France’s only ally is France itself. Japan will be disappointed with this defense and economic alliance. France will soon do or say something to upset Japan. France manages to upset all its allies.

“You’ll be sorry!”

Good for Japan- good for France.

Two freedom-loving democracies who believe in Rule of Law - a concept sadly becoming less common. May they both prosper.

Does France or the French cares anything about Asia or South Asia? When the Ukraine war has caused many huge problems to Europe. Even the society of France is full of dangers, ethnic clashes and economic slowdown of Europe.

Stop fooling your own people when your popularity drops, Mr Kishida. You can't help Japan's out of the hardships as your own leadership was totally useless, incompetent. Wherever you goes is wherever you are blaming your faults on China, actually you have been traveling all around the world but you changed nothing for Japan, just nothing improved. Without China, your country is nobody and will not be saved!

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

The French were very concerning the immigrants caused instability in France or European society. They are nothing to help your country, Mr Kishida. By the way, China is a much bigger buyer of French exports than Japan, are they going to risk Chinese angers because of Japan's begging?

France government sometimes appear to support with China when it comes to the economy. But in the area of security in the Indo-pacific region, both of the countries have to make a strong tie to protect the region.

we should join the belt and road initiative and BRICS.

Ridiculous idea. BRICS is a grouping of mainly illiberal/semi-illiberal nations, whose aims and economies differ vastly. It is mostly an "anti-West" tool for China and Russia, and Japan rightly has no interest in it.

The BRI's purpose is to benefit China, and nothing else. It leaves countries in debt with often poor-quality infrastructure that destroys the environment:

...

https://www.cfr.org/blog/rise-and-fall-bri

In recent years, there have been an increasing number of reports from BRI partner countries about construction flaws in major infrastructure projects, project cancelations initiated by BRI partner countries due to concerns over corruption and debt, project cancelations initiated by Chinese companies due to financial problems, and projects that have led to nowhere (in some cases, literally – such as a BRI-funded railway that ends in the middle of a field in Kenya).

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/chinas-belt-road-plans-losing-momentum-opposition-debt-mount-study-2021-09-29/

"A growing number of policymakers in low- and middle-income countries are mothballing high profile BRI projects because of overpricing, corruption and debt sustainability concerns," said Brad Parks, one of the study's authors.

The survey found that 35% of Belt and Road projects were struggling with corruption, labour violations, environmental pollution and public protests.

...

Italy is leaving, and the Philippines is pulling projects (and may end up leaving too eventually, due to China's untrustworthiness and aggression in the South China Sea):

BRICS is gaining traction and expanding as is the AIIB

See above for BRICS. The AIIB, like the BRI, is nothing more than a vehicle to further China's geopolitical interests. Like all China's initiatives, other countries should steer well clear.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jun/15/canada-freezes-ties-with-chinese-bank-aiib-over-claim-it-is-dominated-by-communist-party

The bank is dominated by Communist party members and also has one of the most toxic cultures imaginable. I don’t believe that my country’s interests are served by its AIIB membership,” he said.

Does France or the French cares anything about Asia or South Asia?

Yes. Due to its territories in the region, and (like almost all countries) the fact that a huge portion of its trade is connected to the region.

@isavelle. Good, then France should have large scale importing Japanese fishery products, to show the Chinese that the European Union mean business with Japan is serious.

The West are seriously welcomed in the East Asian region, Japan need friends to secure the area stability from the commy neighbours. Thanks for being here and together with Japan it is hoped that the evil forces in the regions will be contained.

What a grotesque statement. Japan and France are too typical countries going the path of collapse for various reasons specific to each country but producing the same results. They have been both suffering for decades of inept people put in charge who have kept taking mind blowing bad decisions without the beginning of accountability for the bad consequences they imposed on the population and the country.

One of the big difference between these countries though is that France is a far better democracy than the oligarchy ruled Japan which is having the exact same political power with the same oligarchy controlling the country for almost 80 years. Japan is a fake democracy, a democracy more of form than substance.

China seeks multipolarization as geopolitical agenda

No, that's what it says it seeks. But this - just like "we won't militarize the South China Sea," "we'll abide by the rules of the WTO," and "we're not committing genocide in Xinjiang" - is a lie.

Does France or the French cares anything about Asia or South Asia?

Of course France cares for multiple reasons.

Are you aware of the French territories in Asia-Pacific / Oceania and elsewhere ?

And it was France that helped Japan modernize it's navy and end samurai domination

Wrong. The Britsh Royal Navy was the basis for the Imperial Japanese Navy, a relationship that lead to the Anglo-Japanese Alliance of 1902. The Imperial Japanese Army had relsations with the French Army until France fell in the Franco-Prussian War after which the Japanese Army followed the Germans.

Franch hardly helped Japan end the Samurai era. France supported the Tokugawa Shogunate while the British supported Satsuma and Choshu who backed the Emperor. Tokugawa lost leading to the end of ythe samurai era and the start of modern Japan.

The types of issues China has aren't remotely comparable to the USA

You're right! They are much worse because they are demographic related!

China seeks multipolarization as geopolitical agenda and not domination of a new world order through hegemony and wars like the USA and the British and west attempted and have failed at.

We got a live one here. China is already a major pole and if they weren't bent on dominating with their corrupt ideology, they could have been happy with that.

Keep your friends close and rivalries closer

Sounds good and all but you don't want a murderer and thief out of your sight.

You have a very generous definition of region. The flight time between Tokyo and Papeete (French Polynesia) is approximately 10 hours which is the same time it takes to get from the west coast of the US to Tokyo.

Yes. Due to its territories in the region

Dude, what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu?? Where is all this tax money coming from? Japan should be spending all this extra money funding pensions and healthcare while simultaneously lowering taxes for young workers.

Exactly how is this aid money going to help the citizens of Japan? I am tired of old ossan and jijii running this country into the ground.

It is important to mention partnerships.
