San Francisco, where a foreign news crew was robbed at gunpoint in daylight.
I left my film gear
in San Francisco
High on a hill
it calls to me.

But first, remove all the poop and urine odor in the city, and hide the homeless for a few days...

PM Kishida seems to have embarked on active diplomacy, visiting foreign countries one after another in succession as if to amend his sagging popularity back home...

I’m absolutely dumbfounded why the yanks chose to invite Xi and then Kishida to San Francisco. In the running ( there’s a few contenders both in the states and in Canada ) for the zombie apocalypse drug addicted mental health trouble center of the world. Broken policy and the results of it on a grim show 24/7.
Xi especially would be very happy with himself to even get a glimpse of it from his motorcade. Fits his narrative of the declining, broken west perfectly. They have had their silent opportunistic little hands in it too with the fentanyl crisis. Death from a thousand cuts.
On so many levels, Why America? Why San Fran? Used to be such a beautiful place an all.

Welcome to the most expensive city in America PM Kishida . Courtesy of the American form of New Capitalism.

Isn’t he going to Disneyland too?..........................................
Are you kidding, Donald and Mickey are far to busy, may be he should meet the Road Runner.

And the jet setting continues. His passport must be so full!!

The US is under no obligation to trade with a corrupt communist regime. If the CCP will steal from its own people, imagine what they do to foreigners.

I think you mean
As a taxpayer in Japan.
Governments never publish accounts down to the last penny/yen.
Best to become a citizen and use your vote.

The banner in the photo - is that a dumpster on fire?

So lucky. Just when the yen is trading at 151 to 1 USD.
must be so nice to travel on someone else’s dime, and not his own.
let’s hope he’s staying at a 5 star hotel and traveling by limousine, everywhere. Why stay for 5 days, when he can stay for 10 at double the tax payers cost?
must be good to get away, when yet ANOTHER of his staff had to “resign” over a money scandal.
hopefully he’s buying a lot of Christmas presents as well!

Plenty of time for another 3 cabinet members to resign over gross corruption. Kishida should enjoy what may well be his last holiday as Prime Minister.

So Taiwan and others should ignore Xi’s words that if Taiwan does not come under the fold of China, China will do by force?
CrashTestDummy
They couldn't do a Zoom call? World leaders, climate change leaders, etc private jet setting all over the world while trying to ban fossil fuels is the equivalent of Marie-Antoinette's quote, "Let them eat cake."

Yeah, it is kinda strange that the city can go to poop (literally) for years and the city government can't do anything. But suddenly.... there is both a budget and a will to make the city presentable. I bet the residents of San Fran are pretty mad. For years, hand wringing, and excuses, and no accountability. Can we bet how long this current state of affairs will last once the big wigs leave?
Now if only EVERY city could do this.
Blacklabel
They just had their first high profile robbery already- a foreign TV crew there to cover the event.
never change, liberal dump San Fran, never change.

Saying Xi is a fan of Mao would similar to saying Biden reads the Bible. So what? Is Joe Jesus? He is who he is.
The goal of the US was to embargo China so that China would be poor and society destabilized leading to a revolution and a democractic government. That led to an impoverished China but failed to bring about the desire outcome. The same is true with North Korea today. So the US adopted failed policies that punished civilians and placed it on Mao.

Isn’t he going to Disneyland too?

The reality is there is not a city in the world with the zombie apocalypse of San Francisco. Not one. While Xi is no different than any dictator, it’s something to consider.

You don’t have a good grasp of the situation as your posts shows. China has the most amount of cash. The U.S. can create cash out of thin air but it’s trying to get people to lend money to them including China.
The real estate crisis - no bail out - to end the real estate speculation otherwise you’ll have homes like in San Francisco, empty houses or apartments bought by Chinese investors driving up prices for the locals.
Yes. you are under false impressions that China U.S. going to start a war with Taiwan. The industry that sells weapons sells this narrative. The industry that wants to engage and invest is participating in the summit.
You might separate “we” into different interest groups in the US. They’re those that’d like to export arms and those that’s like to export chips. The latter is closer to reality. The former is luring but China won’t bite.

Xi is ardent fan of Mao, who murdered what, 50 million?
TaiwanIsNotChina
So what should Japan say? That it is stopping the releases? I guess if you standard that everyone should just tell Pooh Bear what he needs to hear until he goes back in his tree, it could work.

Another bonfire of tax revenue in the form of a hollow, worthless, unproductive summit. Why are we even doing these?
The irony of the location is palpable. San Francisco is plagued by homelessness, crime, drug addiction, feces on sidewalks, high rent, and high taxes. People are leaving California in droves. A Czech news crew just got robbed live on air as they were doing a report in San Francisco. Nancy Pelosi is not helping this city. Joe Biden isn't helping this city either.
On to Japan, a country in the midst of economic and cultural decline. In terms of GDP, they have lost their coveted third place spot to Germany in global rankings. Young people are exhausted and worn out. The Japanese corporate model of work culture has been a failure. It is a rat race to social oblivion. There's no innovation. The yen is falling - everyone is poor. Kishida has not done anything for Japan except for allowing tourism to resume. Sadly it took too long and that industry had already been wiped out.
China is in the midst of a serious real estate crisis. Their country has been absolutely battered by dashed economic hopes, natural disasters, and Covid lockdowns that basically just ended a year ago. Also, if we are actually under the impression that they will seriously invade Taiwan, why are we wasting time inviting them to a summit?
South Korea is the only country that appears to be in a favorable position, and I personally like Yoon, he is certainly the most dynamic out of these four. But they have their own problems and the only reason they look good is because the other three are such an absolute clownshow.
Stop wasting time and money on worthless international forums all for the purpose of show - put your countries first and fix your own issues!

Will deliver another New Capitalism speech?

The magic word independence. If the South tried to seceeed from the United States, the same would happen. Catalonia and Spain. The UK sets a good example. Scotland could declare and there would probably be a peaceul secession but not in the case of China.
They just want to live in peace and make money. There are Taiwanese businessmen raking it in. The ruling party wishes to be like Japan, South Korea and the Philippians in relations to the U.S. This requires a club membership and arms purchase requirements and military installations though.
Maintaining the status quo is what China and Taiwan are trying to do. You will not see buildings bombed to a rubble and bloody civilians like in Ukraine or like in Gaza, in Taiwan. Why destroy a peaceful society?

Epic APEC
You have to know when to say the right thing. Elon Musk says Taiwan is an integral part of China. Smart man.
If Kishida Fumio says amount of tritium in the water released is so low that it is safe, the ban continues and Japanese fishing equipment will probably be included.

Unfortunately it's a little early for Dungeness crab season. Enjoy your visit to lovely San Francisco, Mr. PM.
