For god's sake, those masks are useless. I haven't even opened them. I have a pack of similar masks which I bought well over a decade ago. Those are the old fashioned ones which barely cover the face. Complete waste of money, but then again, one of Abe's acquaintance must have benefited financially from this.

More tax payer money being funnelling to a "Close" friend of the PM with no benifit to tax payers. I still have not seen anyone wearing one, just the sales man Abe.

25 ( +25 / -0 )

They were delivered to us one day, the next morning they were gone.

I would have needed BOTH to PROPERLY cover my face, unlike Mr. Abe!

This government clearly subscribes to the wise axiom of "when you're deep in a hole, just keep digging."

Bless their little hearts.

These ugly masks arrived at my apartment around the time when every drug store sold them as usual.

Maybe they should focus on transacting the promised 100.000Yen. It has been almost seven weeks since I have applied, but still no sign of it.

A remarkable example of sheer stupidity the first time, and another repeat example. Who is the person taking ultimate 責任 for these decisions??

8 ( +10 / -2 )

The Abe masks we got are useless.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

ABE no masks contain the VIRUS . DO not use!!

Why doesn't the article provide a link?

No joke, I have been walking around for the past month and my little game is to spot someone wearing this mask. Not a single soul so far. Only Abe on TV looking all comical.

19 ( +19 / -0 )

Absolutely laughable. How out of touch is abe? He’s the only one in japan not laughing at his joke masks..

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Clutching a straws, well, in this case, poorly made unwearable masks.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Wow, these things cost the taxpayer a whopping ¥922 per pack!

https://www.tokyoweekender.com/2020/04/why-abenomask-is-a-failure/

All snouts to the trough!

13 ( +14 / -1 )

I must admit that the masks came in handy that time toilet paper was nowhere to be found!

7 ( +10 / -3 )

I took my Abeno- masks and had an artist airbrush on 16 x 24,  canvass Abe's face. Then I cut the strings off the mask and had "joke" airbrushed on the Abeno-mask itself. I glued the mask on his airbrushed face. Then I had it framed in a nice white frame with corona viruses airbrushed all over the frame. It has has a glass front, I call the art piece "every household". That's what I did with my Abeno-mask. And I hung it in my apartment The reactions been mixed needless to say. Now what to do with the other mask? This is my very warped sense of humor. I apologize in advance if you are offended.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

¥46.6 billion.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I forgot to mention Abe is cross eyed and looking at his nose for the effect.

Mask 922 divided by 2= 461.

Canvass 500 yen.

Airbrush artist (friend) 5000 yen and a case of Asahi Super dry. 2700

Frame and mat board 35,000

Gold plaque "Every household" 1500 yen.

All in 45.161.

Value to me priceless.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Maybe they should focus on transacting the promised 100.000Yen. It has been almost seven weeks since I have applied, but still no sign of it.

Wonder where you live. We got ours, within 10 days, back in May.

It's not the national government that's the problem, it's your local municipal office!

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Of course, they have to persist, because to do otherwise would be to accept that one of our overlords made a mistake. We can't have the Dear Leader losing face, even when he has reduced himself to a global laughing stock.

The only people I ever see wearing these Abenomasks are the venerable members of our retired community who wore them as a matter of course anyway, before they got their "free" ones at a cost of 46.6 billion yen.

A tab which they will be long dead before it gets paid.

But we miss the point. This was never about preventing the spread of the virus. This was about making sure that Abe's chums get paid.

And they got paid. Look at these unaccountable, unnecessary, useless masks, and look at the obscene amount of our money that got funneled to Dentsu.

Abe's chums got paid. Mission accomplished.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

another "clever" idea...

go to travel...but nobody can really go (young and old folks and Tokyo residents excluded)

so let's make more "Abemasks" so popular that no-one wears them...

getting popcorn for next great idea... and can not wait for next tax rise...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

A complete waste of money...that ridicules expenditure and the ‘Go Travel’ have only made a bad situation worse! All that cash could have helped folks in need tremendously!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

You really can not make this crap up.....and just as unbelievable is that people keep voting these beyond corrupt LDP thieves back in election after election. Wtf Japan?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

And I thought this gov't can't get lower...this is really one inept, corrupt, and nefarious ruling party. Incorrigible beyond imagination. How much is enough Mr. Abe?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Let us face it. Abe is not bright. If you are not bright but rich and right-wing there are people who can be bright for you to an extent.

But there are limits.

Abe has long ago exceeded his.

Those worthless masks represent a last gasp.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Just let this one go, Shinzo.

This reminds me of the sunk cost fallacy.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

ill fitting with quality issues and as a waste of public money.

Great motto for LDP election campaign.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Abe no masks are a ridiculous waste of tax payers money !!!!

Enough said methinks.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Nothing will change, come election the people will still vote LDP,

It is clear the people are the problem and not the LDP.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

There are people loosing their jobs, cut in income and people are going homeless and Abe wants to spend money on these very useless and non-effective masks that only fit a child's face. REally??? Abe and his wife need to stepdown and we need a leader who is not an old crony of his and who can standup and be a real Prime Minister. My vote (if I had one) would be for the Osaka Governor who at least has a mind and one that appears that works on a sensible level.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I saw them for a few hours and the wife disposed of them somewhere...,

1 ( +1 / -0 )

i’m guessing,

manufacturers over produced Abe style mask but can’t sell them to any retailers.

abe should just donate the mask to kids around the worlds who actually needs them.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Apparently my mother in law wears them under another mask when she wants to double layer, bit never on their own because she said it would be too embarrassing!!!!!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

You mean they still haven’t finished giving those out? It was a joke when they said it would take a month to distribute. That was in March.

This is just beyond ridiculous now.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

No joke, I have been walking around for the past month and my little game is to spot someone wearing this mask. Not a single soul so far. Only Abe on TV looking all comical.

Doing the same game. Have seen about 5-6 the past months. Always elderly ladies.

Think I will use mine as cleaning cloths.

Japan is seeing rising coronavirus infection numbers as it increases testing and opens up its economy. As of Monday, Tokyo had logged more than 200 new cases in six of the last seven days. The capital confirmed 266 further cases on Tuesday.

So maybe we should the Abe Mask.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I got mine and felt like a idiot when I wore it and everyone looking at me'

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Worth repeating...

'zichiToday 06:06 pm JST

¥46.6 billion.'

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I use the 2 Abenomasks as a pot holder.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

They fit the kids though but they would rather wear the handmade ones with their favorite characters.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Wow... I mean, I and others said the government never learns the first time, but to have them doing this again, after it was so completely and utterly made fun of and poorly received the first time... that's a new level of stupid. It seems there is absolutely no level of low Abe will go to, and his sycophants along with him. I mean, really, if these guys thought they are so great, why is Abe the only one who wears one? well... he KIND of wears one, it's usually all over his face, and never fully covering anything.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Some people made some serious coin out of this its a field day for Abe and his pals...they look like something left over from WW2..

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Got the masks ages ago, and they were tiny and rubbish. Still waiting for my 100,000 yen.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Asked about the program, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters: "The masks are relatively low cost and help curb demand."

Never heard of Daiso, obviously

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Again???.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If the weirdos didn't horde all the facemasks in the beginning, there would be no need for the Abenomasks.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I got mine and felt like a idiot when I wore it and everyone looking at me'

Why in the world would you even wear one? You must have a really tiny face that actually allows the mask to cover it!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If the weirdos didn't horde all the facemasks in the beginning, there would be no need for the Abenomasks.

Most of those "weirdos" were Chinese tourists.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

yubaru

not in Yamato, Sagamihara, Zama. I was surprised to see how many people don't know what "1pack only means"...

for some people 1 meant 2..3..4 as they were going with whole family and then split so each member of the family will get one pack per person. Reuniting outside with 3bonas packs... No Chinese tourists...Japanese hamsters

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The masks are white and too small, but the envelopes showing up in Abe's in-box are tan and just thick enough. If Japan had journalists, it would be interesting to trace that money.
