All those complaining that Japan has been giving away vaccines causing a domestic shortage apparently don't understand that Japan is only giving away AstraZeneca vaccine which it doesn't want to use on its own people. They are vaccinating with the mRNA vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna. So many uninformed people, even in Japan.

bokuda ,

These (in)competent individuals are incapable of count jabs.

see what you did there though - government doesn’t know something, but that doesn’t mean that individuals cannot count.

The problem is that the flow of information to a big central location called government is inefficient, compared with a decentralized approach where the people across the country signal their demands to would be suppliers through market price signals.

Wonder how can they manage our tax money?

Haha, well they can’t :) They just spend what they can and low and behold, trillions of yen’s of deficits each year… we’d be better off expecting government to do less for us and pay less tax accordingly.

The data from VAERS shows that there have been more adverse reactions and deaths linked to the Covid-19 vaccines (within a few months) than all of the other vaccines put together over the past 30 years!

The difference really is off the charts!!!

And it also shows that the important adverse reactions are not different from what is presented in non-vaccinated people. Leaving this out makes it obvious is misrepresenting the information and trying to decieve people into thinking the effects are related to the vaccines, when in reality the data comes with the very clear explanation that if something is found in the same degree in vaccinated and unvaccinated people that obviously means it is unrelated to the vaccines.

Repeating the same mistake do not make it less false.

So you think that many of those old people who received the covid vax never received at least one flu shot?

No, the obvious meaning of the question is that not the same amount of people at elevated age and with co-morbidities are vaccinated as it has been done with COVID this year. Which obviously would mean the amount of expected problems just by the amount of people being followed would be much larger.

It is quite well established that these covid vaxes are at least as dangerous as typical ones, and the data suggests they are more dangerous.

No, that is false, just an invalid conclusion born from trying very hard to misrepresent the normal occurrence of problems in a segment of the population that frequently have it and compare it with a much lower number of people in the same conditions, If it was "well stablished" you would have no problems in finding any respected institution of science or medicine in the whole world that said it, since you have been asked repeatedly to do it and you have never been able to that should be proof enough it is not "well stablished" at all.

it is difficult to take seriously anyone who says that there are no adverse reactions or deaths from the covid vaxes (i.e. the numbers are the same as the unvaxxed)!

So you think the VAERS information and the analysis done on it is not reliable? (since that is exactly what it says), if so, why you keep bringing it if you think it is not to be trusted?

Sorry but if you are unable to prove there are more problems in the vaccinated population compared with unvaccinated people of the same demographics the only logical conclusion is that vaccines are not responsible for those problems, repeating something you failed to prove true do not make it so.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

What, those same old people with preexisting conditions were not given annual flu vaccines?

How many of them were? how closely were they being watched?

So you think that many of those old people who received the covid vax never received at least one flu shot?

It is quite well established that these covid vaxes are at least as dangerous as typical ones, and the data suggests they are more dangerous. It might still be worth the risk for many of us but it is difficult to take seriously anyone who says that there are no adverse reactions or deaths from the covid vaxes (i.e. the numbers are the same as the unvaxxed)!

Still waiting up in Saitama. I finally got my vax coupon but my coworkers in neighboring Omiya are still waiting and were told they would get it end of July or August. I can't book anywhere and am on cancellation waiting lists. No idea what to do. The town office isn't allowing us to make reservations until the end of this month but even then we were told it could be the end of the year or later.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

What, those same old people with preexisting conditions were not given annual flu vaccines.

How many of them were? how closely were they being watched? and specially how does that deny in any way that the important side effects are in the same levels as unvaccinated people?

Do you believe the vaccines produce problems in unvaccinated people as well? because unless you have this irrational belief the sole fact that the problems happen in the same rates is enough to prove that even if there were more problems right now than ever before (there are not) it would be because of other reasons, not because of the vaccine.

No, that is false and the product of trying to reject scientific conclusions without the necessary evidence.

The information is there in the VAERS report that people love to bring (excluding that very important part) trying to ignore the evidence that proves you wrong do not make it false, it only makes it obvious you have no argument and depend completely on pretending perfectly fine information available that proves your point as mistaken does not exist.

Can you bring some scientific institution that say they concluded vaccines are causing much more problems than ever before? because if you can't it is obvious who is trying to reject scientific conclusion.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Starting with the Abe administration Japan has bungled it’s response to the pandemic. Abe was too embroiled in at least two national scandals involving his personal friends and himself. He then unrealistically moved to postpone the Olympics for only 12 months when it should have been realistically more like 15 months. His successor Suga further compounded the current situation when he and his party delayed the testing and the implementation of an efficient vaccination program nationwide. Japanese bureaucracy cannot effectively lead in this day and age. It is too embroiled in scandals, inefficiencies and under the table self gratification efforts among its male dominated politicians

1 ( +1 / -0 )

By end of July Japan will have received approx. 100 M doses of Pfizer vaccine and (up to) 50 M doses of Moderna. According to sources there will ”only” be 70 M doses from July to September.

There are about 115 M adults to be vaccinated, each twice, so where is the problem? If 80% of adults show up to get the jab, the project will be done in September with current rates of 500-600 K 1st jabs per day.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The data from VAERS is also very telling: there have been more adverse reactions and deaths linked to the Covid-19 vaccines (within a few months) than all of the other vaccines put together over the past 30 years!

Wow, almost as if a massive vaccination effort was done in people with many preexisting conditions,

What, those same old people with preexisting conditions were not given annual flu vaccines.

The important part? that the numbers are not different from unvaccinated people

No, that is false and the product of trying to reject scientific conclusions without the necessary evidence.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

If you hasn't gotten a vaccine this month, you will not be getting a vaccine until next year. There will not be any further vaccine shipments.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@Sandoval

Protip: if you have a ticket try to make an appointment with private clinics for vaccination. They are much faster. I managed to get my first shot before few days, but if I waited for kuyakusho the earliest would be in 2 weeks.

Not necessarily. My city opened the online reservation system for my group on Fri 7月9日, and I was able to get an appt for the following day at a municipal site.

The private clinics listed were for much later dates. And, my neighbor, who was in the previous group in May, used a local clinic that wasn't available to book online, and it took over a month for his first shot appt.

Also friend who was in group with underlying ilness went to a big vaccination site and he had to spend 3h there while I was done in 20min or so

I was in and out in about 30mins. But, 15mins of that was the after-shot waiting period to check for adverse reactions.

So, it really depends on the municipality.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Where have these idiots been?

The entire world is seeking vaccine doses. Now is not the time to try and buy more ... unless you want delivery in 2022.

Everyone involved in the Olympics is already under "house arrest" for their time in Japan. Athletes, staff, coaches are limited to hotel, practice or competition locations. They won't be wandering off a bus anywhere. They are trapped.

The Japanese who catch a train daily are more at risk from other Japanese than from any of the foreigner teams.

Foreign media and VIPs ARE a huge risk too. These people don't know how to be quarantined, unless forced. They will get out and wander the streets, so lock them into their hotels as well.

Love or hate Trump, but he did sign contracts for 4 vaccines last summer. 2 of those 4 have been excellent and the other 2 have been delayed and had safety issues for 1 in 1,000,000 people. Like mom always said, never put all your fresh eggs in 1 basket. Now that most vaccines are hard-boiled, we know where to bet, but so does the rest of the world. And the rest of the world with money bought their doses last November.

We all hoped for the $1-$3/dose vaccines to be highly effective, but that hasn't been the result. In this situation, you get what you pay for and larger customers with cash get to the front of the line with 10% being given to poor countries so the rich countries don't feel as selfish.

Japanese governors call for sufficient COVID-19 vaccine supply

Just being a Monday morning quarterback, but shouldn't these governors have made this call like, a year ago?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yep - only domestically produced AZ has been given away. Not very much of not in the big scheme of things and even though approved the Government has no plans to use it..as yet.

The Japanese are only reluctant to take it because of anti-vaxxers who inflate the blood clot risk.

Risks totally outweigh the benefits and IF that was a sticking point just don't give it to pre-menopausal women, who incidentally have more risk of developing a blood clot taking the low dose combined pill. But no one (rightly) seems too concerned about that.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@blue

The government hasn't given any Pfizer or Moderna only AZ as far as I know and the Japanese are reluctant to get AZ so they have(or will have) 90 million AZ and will not use it.

So they are giving it away partially under covax plan but really anyway they can and hope to look like a great caring neighbour.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Wow, almost as if a massive vaccination effort was done in people with many preexisting conditions,

The important part? that the numbers are not different from unvaccinated people, so VAERS data is very telling, in that the effects are not due to the vaccines. Or what are the vaccines also causing problems to unvaccinated people? that is irrational. No special risk from these vaccines compared with others, no conspiracy to hide medicines, lack of evidence for both things

We are just bringing up the very real dangers of these investigational vaccines

Compared with the dangers of not vaccinating and contracting the infection? incomparably less, that is the whole point, the vaccines are not tiny risks in exchange for nothing but a tiny risk in exchange of reducing much more significative risks, what is considered antivaxxer is the people that use false arguments and misleading presentation of data (like VAERS) to try and deceive people into believing vaccines have more risks than the disease, which is untrue.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@bokuda

Basically When Kono on Thursday anounced that Japan wasn't going to get 2/3 of the Pfizer it was expecting, the press asked how much Vaccine was still left.

The government said the have out 90 million doses and estimate 50 to 60 million have been used so they "think" the municipalities and prefectures still have 30 to 40 million doses but are in the process of asking for each places total remain doses.

Which is frustrating because if other places have stock while me ward is out of vaccine, this shouldn't be acceptable.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Actually the government admitted on Thursday it actually had no idea [how many jabs do we have]

by @Antiquesaving

after 10 min.

I think the people involved are perfectly competent individuals.

by @fxgai

These (in)competent individuals are incapable of count jabs.

Wonder how can they manage our tax money?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

How can you be so bad at your job?

I think the people involved are perfectly competent individuals.

Rather I think the poor distribution comes down to the system that has been selected - controlled by central government. Government is not called government for nothing, it’s supposed to do that and leave distribution to other mechanisms we have in human society.

No one demands the central government controls the flow of pedestrians through crowded train stations, and the decentralized approach works just fine.

I believe a decentralized approach would work well in the case of vaccines too.

The motivations of having central government control stuff are often good, but we need to judge not by motivations and intentions, but by actual outcomes.

Another good illustration of this was the distribution of Abenomasks

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Notice that the article does not mention how many jabs does Japan have.

That's because that data is not released to the public, government defuses the release of those numbers.

Actually the government admitted on Thursday it actually had no ideaand was asking prefectures and municipalities to inform the national government how much they have left.

Seems no one place was keeping track nationally.

We have a lack of transparency problem.

Wait, I think they're wrong. I mean, we have enough vaccines, a surplus, so we have to donate them to other countries so they don't go bad.

@ptownsend

Japan has a free press. The problem is there is absolutely no appetite or demand for investigative journalism from the public.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

anyway @Raw Beer - I'm very happy to hear your legit reasons to be worried about these vaccines, especially the mRna variety as I've had my first shot. Had some of the listed side effects, all cleared up in around 48 hours. But I really don't want to watch some YouTube videos. Maybe in your own words?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Simple choice for me. Look at the numbers of Covid infections and associated deaths VS number of vaccines given and associated deaths. With vaccine risk being far lower than infection risk, I’ll gladly take it.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

@Raw Beer. Incorrect , you are an 'anti-vaxxer' . Very much so. You actively post propaganda - extolling the (false) dangers of the Covid Vaccines. If you just kept your trap shut and said it was a personal decision not to have the vaccine. Fine.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

We are just bringing up the very real dangers of these investigational vaccines.

"Investigational vaccines" doesn't mean anything.

The dangers are very real, and for some people these dangers are greater than that from the virus.

Nope.

Move on, it's over.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

There are very legit reasons to be concerned with these particular vaccines

Which after all your posts is still hearsay and secret knowledge. Wake me up when there is any evidence

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I don't think anyone is disputing their effectiveness. We are just bringing up the very real dangers of these investigational vaccines. The dangers are very real,

You me9 like my dentist that believes that Vaccinated people can cause people around them to get sick? Those "very real" dangers?

No, the dangers are real, but only to the person getting the vaccine. The only one saying it is dangerous for others is your dentist.

There are very legit reasons to be concerned with these particular vaccines, it doesn't make us "anti-vaxxers"...

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

The prefectures have currently only businesses in mind and the government only Olympic. So this communication attempt will go into the nirvana or paper trash. That’s all of no use as long as they do not also ‘support a wide variety of’ people beforehand.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

In a policy proposal, the National Governors' Association also called for thorough antivirus measures during the Tokyo Olympics set to open July 23, including restricting activities of foreign athletes.

Hypocrisy strikes again. Why isn't the National Governors' Association calling for the activities of all local people to be restricted? I mean, I know the answer, but would love for them to be forced to explain and defend their flawed logic.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

To back up @Antiquesaving - you should read this, (as we do read the links you post) explaining how anti-vaxxers mine VAERS for info and interpret in a completely incorrect way. Pretty similar to Religious terrorists exploiting the Bible and Koran. Yes - its no different. Both causing unnecessary deaths.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Woh woh woah! Hang on a sec.... wasn't Kono bragging the last two weeks that Japan is ahead of Europe on vaccination rates (I mean, before most vax centers in major cities had to close down and cancel appointments and when he stopped tweeting)? Surely none of that was for show, right? Why the words "shortage" now, when Japan has SO much that they gave MILLIONS of doses to other nations?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The data from VAERS is also very telling:

And you don't even have the slightest idea how to interpret that data, or even what VAERS is or does or how it works.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The guy in charage Kono Taro said vaccine enough and returned 25mil doses of moderna. Hilarious......

You can't really blame him, he was going by the numbers given to him by the ojisan doing the calculations.

You know the guy that never learned how to use a computer and made a slight error while calculating on his Abacus!

What a laugh, one has far more chance of suffering long term effects from covid-19 (25% mid 10% long term) than any serious problems from the vaccine.

These are actual facts not anti vaxxers theories, conspiracies or rumours.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Are there STILL people trying to dispute the effectiveness of vaccines?? Move on and find another hobby, it's getting pathetic.

I don't think anyone is disputing their effectiveness. We are just bringing up the very real dangers of these investigational vaccines. The dangers are very real, and for some people these dangers are greater than that from the virus. It's up to everyone to get informed and make their own choice.

Sorry @Raw Beer: Which 'safe and effective' meds are you referring too.

Other than Paracetamol and Ibuprofen to ease fever/aches and pains I don't seem to find any credible information about anything else out there?

Last time I checked that only way to prevent becoming seriously ill from any virus was either to have a vaccine, or this was unavailable to either bear it out (such as the common cold) or to take very expensive viral inhibitors (in the case of HIV for example) whilst the hunt goes on for a vaccine.

The data from VAERS is also very telling: there have been more adverse reactions and deaths linked to the Covid-19 vaccines (within a few months) than all of the other vaccines put together over the past 30 years! And that includes many seniors getting the flu jab over the years, so it's not just a question of demographics.

There are risks with any vaccine, and the data is clear that the current COVID-19 vaccines are more dangerous than typical vaccines. Each person should weigh the pros and cons for getting the vaccine depending on their own health condition and willingness to take risks; so it's important to have honest, open, and civil debates about these pros and cons.

Also, regardless of shortage, it's high time they start using those safe and effective meds that have for been blocked for some mysterious reason. One should look at the ties of whoever made the decision to block them.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

Foreign athletes again the target when they are tested regularly while the local population that is largely

unvaccinated is refused testing when they want . it is obvious even to a fool which party's activities has to

be restricted. Galapagos island mentality on display and Internationalism at its finest.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@BunkerBilly

Look up "long haul covid".

Nearly 25% of those that get covid suffer mid to long term problems after this applies to all age and health groups.

These problems range from mild like losing smell and or taste to permanent lung and other damage.

Even teens are being affected previously healthy teens.

But unlike vaccines there is no rules that state any possible problems that may or may not be related to having the virus has to be reported to a central location and there is no such organizations to report them to.

There are far more serious problems related to having had covid than all the Vaccines put together.

Milton Friedman would quip that if you put central government in charge of the Sahara Desert in no time there would be a shortage of sand.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

But deaths are not false information. People have died due to the vaccine? How is that distorting the facts.

Because you are presenting causality without any clear evidence of a connection. If you have some do share. But no infowars links please.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Since the numbers are around the same for important side effects and deaths between vaccinated and unvaccinated people, while complications and deaths from COVID are much decreased for vaccinated people that would mean yes, it is the obvious, rational choice.

Because those saying much of this stuff are using false information, distorting the facts and spreading fear and false rumours.

Does that help as to why?

Japanese governors call for sufficient COVID-19 vaccine supply

, Japanese business and government leaders, need to rethink just-in-time tactics, especially when it comes to healthcare.

Way late in the pandemic to come to realize there was not an adequate vaccine supply. It's doubtful the various ministeries who should have dealt with pandemic issues more efficiently will be objectively assess what all went wrong, beyond apologizing if someone might have misunderstood.

But if Japan had a free press, perhaps the public would be able to learn what went wrong, and who should be held accountable for the growing list of pandemic blunders that have harmed the economy and further sunk Japan's reputation around the world.
