No timing has been set for when a meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga might happen, Japan's top government spokesman said on Monday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said Japan hoped a summit between the two leaders would take place as soon as possible, depending on the coronavirus pandemic situation.

Axios reported earlier on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter, that Biden was planning to host Suga at the White House as soon as April in the first in-person foreign leader visit of his presidency.

Just like Xi Jinping, Biden appears to snub Japan as the USA has many difficulties in domestic affairs. Biden is unlikely to visit any nation soon in the mist of the global pandemic.

China recently became the most important trade partner to Japan, yet Xi Jinping does not give any significant remark about his future visit to Japan. The US already had the Mutual Cooperation and Security treaty with Japan where the US military had nigh-omnipotent power over Japan in case of wartime. There is no need to foster ties with someone who is perfectly under control. American visits to Japan are largely PR affairs that have no political substance to change the world - PR affairs to show that Americans are committed to all allies.

Japan should have heeded and followed Yukio Hatoyama's path but too bad he was shanked politically by the Yanks and Japanese cronies.

Japan is the most important country to the US.

Nah, that's Israel.

Eat your heart out. South Korea and EU.

South Korea and the EU pursue the independent path away from the USA. Their multilateralism is working as their economies weathered well against the pandemic due to their fostered relations with China. Especially with South Korea, they emerged minorly damaged from the pandemic, while Japan took the full blow heavily.

Under Biden and Obama, South Korea was more aggressive, using radar to target Japanese ships in Japan Sea. Remember?

The US has no obligation in interfering with a regional petty squabble.

Despite the claims of the Japanese nationalists, Japan has been receding in importance vis a vis the US at an alarming rate for the past 20 years.

And a large part of it is due to Japan's own turn towards insularity and irrelevance, modelled by its conservative leaders and establishment institutions.

Give this man, 1 million yens for answering perfectly!

Does it matter if they meet? Not as much as you think.

We already know Biden position, this will be another Obama term.

I'm not confident in Biden. I don't consider him a friend of Japan. Why?

2015 Comfort Woman deal. Biden and Obama supported that deal. 2017 Moon broke the deal.... No response from anyone on S. Korea breaking another agreement with Japan.

Under Biden and Obama, South Korea was more aggressive, using radar to target Japanese ships in Japan Sea. Remember?

S. Korea not part of Quad alliance. S. Korea only cares to fight if North Korea attacks them.

Come USA, come Japan....But we won't do the same in return for you!

No balance China for S. Korea. That burden is not for them. Not for S. Korea.

Japan is the most important country to the US. It makes sense for Biden to meet Suga first. Eat your heart out. South Korea and EU.
