One country, two systems is dead. Hong Kong is more like a crown colony of PRC. Nothing China says can be trusted. Their promises are empty. I so wish western firms would conclude their business in China and leave. I used to feel ok about buying products from Hong Kong even as I boycotted products from PRC. Now I have added Hong Kong made goods to my personal boycott. A shame too because Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa does work when you have a cold, but it's made in Hong Kong. Sigh.

“Farewell” to our beloved Hong Kong.

Is this even possible? Wouldn't it mean one would give up using pretty much all electronic devices at least?

Frankly, I'm tired of this B.S. from Japan. They make declarations of concern about Myanmar. They make declarations of concern about Hong Kong. And that's the extent of their action. If you're so concerned, then why do continue to do nothing about it? The J-gov doesn't have the guts to make an actual stand against these "matters of concern." I know I should be used to this government fluff-talk by now, but these countries are going down and going down hard, and the J-gov is just posturing at press conferences. It's one thing to not get involved, but it's another to not get involved while taking advantage of the situation by trying to look good with all your public concerns and wishes.

Pot calling the kettle black I say!!

I've always thought Japan was the most successful communist country. They've even managed to masquerade itself as a fully functioning democracy with its people hardly ever protesting.

Japan may have freedom of speech but what’s the point when the leaders do not listen to the people and the PM is basically a dictator?
I guess at least you can express opinions here and don’t get arrested and jailed. Yet.

Japan will get nothing if they side with Hong Kong. Actually HK is already over 50% China now. Fast forward 2047. HK is Full China.
Therefore, for Japan's economy and debt, Japan and China should have long lasting good co-operation deals (technology, food, science etc.) without affecting or disturbing the other countries (politics, religion)

Don't they? Seems they adjust accordingly to popularity polls.
And if they performed unacceptably then they can be changed in the next election.
Can't do that in a dictatorship
ian
What do they call it, approval rating?

And what does Japan can do? Withdrawn from Hong Kong? They were welcome!

Absolutely!

What's the difference of high-handedness between China and Japan? Okinawa's strong opposition to the building of Futenma's replacement in Henoko has been amply shown time and time again in elections, media-conducted polls and official referendums, local and prefecture-wide.
If Japan is a true democracy, it should take these facts into consideration and notify the U.S., its mentor and a self-acknowledged model democracy, that the plan should be scrapped all across the board immediately.
Otherwise, Japan’s concern over Hongkong is like the pot calling the kettle black, as some poster said. Lol.

I want to refer anyone concerned with the Hongkong issue to the May 31, 2021 Ryukyu Shimpo editorial if he could read Japanese: "Hongkong democracy boned and gutted / China must correct its high-handedness”.
