A waste of money....

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Helping Ukraine is fine but the government should spend more money to help people here who are suffering from the COVID recession and the rising prices.

Best comment here… simple and realistic!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This govt sure does have a lot of money to throw around. I'm struggling like crazy. Wish they'd fund their own people a little more. I've done and paid more into this country than any Ukrainian ever has.

Today 12:43 pm JST

Please read again and please go look up what I am talking about.

In 2015 ( after the 2014 coup) the Ukrainian government passed a series of laws regarding the Soviet Union, including criminalization of many former Soviet symbols, retroactively calling past Soviet actions illegal and also declaring OUN UPA ( Ultra Nationalist Ukrainian organization that participated in ethnic cleansing ) national heroes and criminalizing even mentioning the massacres they did or participated in.

Yes the the USSR collapsed in 91 but only after 2015 did Ukraine pass laws and go all far right on that period. All expect declaring the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine as also illegal, they included land transferred to other parts of the Soviet Union and transferred to Poland as being done "illegally" by the USSR but Crimea they are fine with.

Stormcrow...

Don’t cha love to see everybody standing up for the innocent victim against the arrogant bully?

Yes. Russia is standing up against the US/NATO arrogant bully.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I do wish this would stop.

Tell that to Putin and the Kremlin. They seem to be getting lots of support through their media and useful online parrots, stop giving them support. Tell Putin and the Kremlin to stop using the millions (billions) they're getting selling off Russian resources and also buying more warmongering equipment, instead to share the wealth with Russians that are not part of Putin's ruling caste, especially share the wealth of the families of those who are being killed in Putin's brutal invasion while Vladimir's armies are killing off civilians and destroying their homes.

Very good Japan! Ukraine's little children and helpless women and mothers will surely benefit from that loan because it will surely be managed by the Ukrainian government, headed by their wonderful and charismatic president, who is adored by many!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Maybe they can loan them 100million usd at usdjpy=130, and then when it gets to 150, ask them to pay back + interest and then Japan govt makes a nice profit on this.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

In 2014 Japan had already made a loan in the amount of 1.5 Billion Dollars through IMF.

Since 2014 Japan has made donations, oops, "loans" of almost 2 billion dollars to ukraine.

@Eastman, that's not how money works.

Read up on how central banks function.

Well let me say this not how government should work and manage money.Japan is in biggest debt in history own citizens are fightning to survive month to month week to week and gov just giving away piles of cash to some UA oligakhs and corrupted UA politician clans. This is not how money should work!

jpn gv have to take care about wellbeing of own citizens first!

I am not agree to pay heavy taxes for literally everything and than my money are used for support of nazi Azov and related guys!

@Antiquesaving

Now again we have the non logic

You mean your own frontal lobe impairment ?

In 2015 Ukraine passed laws, declared the USSR an occupying forces and calling everything it did illegal

First of all- the USSR /Soviet Union ceased to exist in 1991

And what your ridiculous comment has to do with the $100 million loan from Japan ?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

@Antiquesaving

Are you aware the Soviet Union ended in 1991 ?

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

That money has already gone right into the garbage can. I don’t see any scenario that includes paying back those loans. The Ukraine won’t be able to pay it if it succeeds as it then has massive reconstruction burdens and need for even more loans and if Putin grabs the whole thing successfully one day sooner or later he won’t pay back the loans too of course, why should he then.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Imagine the corrupt officials in the Ukraine getting ready to line their pockets!

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Since 1945 Japan is not a sovereign country, everyone should know.

United States has a lot of puppets in Kasumigaseki.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Dear Japan..

Help your own people first!!..

Stop clowning around to ingratiate yourself with the clowns of the West!!..

1 ( +4 / -3 )

throw away money since Ukraine is black hole.

Japan will never see these money back again.100% sure.

big "thank you" from japanese taxpayers to JPN gov which cares more about Ukraine than own citizens...its very pathetic at least!

and very very unfair!

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Some of Ukraine's continuing issues contributing to its poverty are government corruption, Russian aggression (specifically Russia's illegal seizure of Crimea in 2014), and weak infrastructure."

Now again we have the non logic.

In 2015 Ukraine passed laws, declared the USSR an occupying forces and calling everything it did illegal.

Ooh wait everything except the transfer of Crimea from Russia to Ukraine that part they decided was valid.

Considering Crimea was never part of Ukraine until the Soviet administrative transfer it is quite funny.

Ukraine and it's supporters:

"We condem the Soviet Union and everything it did" "except if it benefits us".

Alfie:

The World Bank and the IMF are two of the props that support American control of the global financial system. Ukraine is now an American debt slave in perpetuity.

Too right. Saying 'debt trap' in the same sentence as China is merely smoke and mirrors. IMF is designed to get poorer countries stuck in this forever debt problem. Japan won't see that money again (I should say Japanese tax payers) and Ukraine will always be in debt. Someone or something is going to benefit but it's not going to be these two countries. For Japan, this is just a feel-good moment.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Don't be cheap, just give Ukraine the money with no strings attached.

Ukraine is regarded as the " breadbasket " of the word and along with all of it's other resources should be wealthy.

I do wish this would stop.

Maybe 100 years ago or even 50, 60 years ago but it hasn't been in decades.

China, India, Russia, the USA, Canada, even France all out produce Ukraine's grain production and even out export grain.

Canada alone exports more than the total grain production of Ukraine.

Then why was it listed as the poorest country in Europe ( even below Albania, Georgia, etc ...) Long before the invasion and listed as the most corrupt.

https://www.businessinsider.com/these-are-the-13-most-corrupt-countries-in-europe-2019-2

Ukraine is not even in the top 13 most corrupt countries in Europe.

Ukraine is listed as the poorest nation in Europe.

Ukraine

"With a per capita GNI of $3,540, Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe as of 2020. Ukraine once had the second-largest economy in the USSR. However, when the USSR collapsed, Ukraine had difficulty transitioning into a market economy, which sent much of the population into poverty. Some of Ukraine's continuing issues contributing to its poverty are government corruption, Russian aggression (specifically Russia's illegal seizure of Crimea in 2014), and weak infrastructure."

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/poorest-countries-in-europe

Exasperated by Russia stealing Crimea and denying it the use of the Donbass region which is part of their rich territory. Well done Russia, kicking a country while it's down and stealing their riches for yourself.

Russia is more corrupt than Ukraine as shown here.

Perhaps Putin could just stop being an evil dick and call off the war? He could even put a good PR spin on it and sell it as saving thousands of Russian lives and livelihoods.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

The ‘loan’ is tied to conditions that a certain proportion will be used for reconstruction using (only) Japanese companies-that’s the way Japanese loans are…

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Come on Japan, this is not the time to have long pockets and short arms. In comparison Australian have given (not a loan) $70 million for hard weapons plus 20 Bushrangers. Also have all ready excepted close to a 1000 Putin war refugees from Ukrain and a open book on coal as much as needed. So the third biggest economy offers a loan and a handful of places for refugees. I sure Japan has done more but I not sure but this sound like a very meager response from Japan.

Giving ¥13 billion to the most corrupt government in Europe? During a time of conflict when even the weak checks and balances of normal times are gone?

Well someone's going to get very rich!

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Ukraine is regarded as the " breadbasket " of the word and along with all of it's other resources should be wealthy. But, it is the poorest country in Europe thanks to the West bleeding it dry. It is also regarded as the most corrupt.

Once Russia has cleaned up, all the truths will be revealed. Also note that Kiev city is functioning as normal with no problems.

The aid will be co-financed with the World Bank /The loan is aimed at "fostering de-monopolization and anti-corruption institutions, strengthening land and credit markets,

The World Bank has a long history of using these 'loans' to further the interests of Western financial oligarchs.

Ukraine is on the disaster capitalism table.

"LOANS". Of course Japanese financial vultures would get in on the feeding frenzy that is a corrupt Ukrainian government along with the IMF and the U.S. "Lend-lease" all of which will require 'interest' and an unknown number of Ukrainian generations of hard work to pay off the debts incurred to support a fascist government that, itself, will be ousted by an outraged Ukrainian People when they wake up and find themselves in "another israel", however many do not find the homes they are seeking in other places.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

More tatemae nonsense by jgov. The most indebted country in the world can't help its own economy, and yet it wants to help every other country.

-3 ( +14 / -17 )

More inflation for us. Thanks for that.

And why?

Because One country, with all its insane mass murdering Mob, which you support and cheer up very much, was invading and starting a war with its neighbour country and is killing innocent men, women and children.

If that had not been happen Japan would not do this loan deal.

-13 ( +5 / -18 )

Ukraine will not use the funds for military purposes.

Of course they won't. Zelensky should return the billion Dollars in his overseas account plus sell of the properties that he owns in Europe and the USA. I guess that now he and his family have UK citizenship granted by Boris he could live comfortably over there.

faces an economic crisis due to Russia's invasion.

Really just because of the invasion.
