Liam Fox should focus first on a CANZUK deal before anything else.

I don't agree,Aly. Japan is a bigger player in the trade world than the Australia, Canada and New Zealand combined. And, if Japan wants UK armed forces support in its region then it should think carefully about its strategic position.

Fair enough Rob.
You are 100% correct my friend, but
These 4 countries are more than likely to succeed and prosper under mutual economic and social policies due to their similar socio-economic circumstances. The CANZUK nations share the same majority language where Japan doesn't.
They have the same head of state (Queen Elizabeth II), Japan doesn't. They have the same Westminster style parliamentary system AND common-law legal system which is very different from Japan's. They have the same respect for democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and the same westernised culture. You can argue that Japan has all of these things, but I will beg to differ, and most likely there will be MANY posters that do. I would say that Japan has none of these things.
Now, I'm not saying that a trade agreement with Japan shouldn't commence, but only saying that Fox should go to Canada OZ and NZ first and cement a FTA and open borders agreement there before going to Japan or anywhere else for that matter. Japan will someday make a great trading partner, but the UK should focus on the those 3 countries first.
But that's a reason for Japan to want closer ties, not the UK..

I quite agree. Commonwealth before Japan.
