Gosh, however do they manage on such a pittance?
They must be living in abject poverty!

My heart bleeds for them!
Abe should take a 10 million pay cut at least if he wants to even begin feeling the 'ippan jin' pain...
Of course he won't..
Just more tea and cat stroking..

Scum, they as a whole have not showen any care or concern for the public at all. They constantly complicate life for their own benefit, perhaps being born into a regime hopefully does not guarantee a tax payer funded life. Do something for those that pay you excessive salery and I might calm down.

They completely understand the reality and the hardship the average person in Japan has to deal with on a daily basis, the part time employment, the struggle and sacrifices made to keep food on the table and a roof over their famillies heads while trying to put 2 children through school, university, pay the mortgage and shop at the local cr@ppy supermarket.
These politicians completely can relate.
Just more of the pigs with noses in the trough from those in govt, same all over the world.

I don't care about their income coming from their existing assets.
But so high salary, it would hurt my heart each time it beats.
As a comparison, French president Macron's annual salary is 23 millions yens (gross, becomes net after high taxes which depends on members of family reported).
And drops by half for average French lawmakers...

Being a Politician is the only job in the world where you vote to give yourself a pay rise.

You’ve gotta feel for these scions of the elite, doing it tough. And at the same time marvel at their empathetic sharing of the diminished horizons and déclassé marginalisation of their even less fortunate compatriots.

egads man!
If they have these side businesses and stocks, they don't need to be receiving a government salary. Appropriate their government salaries to use elsewhere.

I suspect that Japan lawmakers' average income from bribes rises not for 1st time in 4 years in 2019

Considering what they accomplish, that's disgusting.

How about accountability? What did Dear Leader do for that money, beside try pushing a constitutional change? Where was he when the COVID-19 crisis broke out, etc. ? Is Japan better today than it was a year ago?

24 million yen!!!???? yikes! that's obscene amount of cash. @ Bertie, your bang on with your sarcasm, sorry observation.

@bertiewooster Yeah tell me about it! Because when I read this article, I was like, “Oh those poor things. Yeah, how can they make do with a little less money like that? Yeah, they must really be struggling.“
In other words, you weren’t the only one who was thinking sarcastic thoughts when reading this article.
