This is actually a serious security matter. But I can't see it avoiding the 総理は宇宙人ですか?comments.

Yup, here we go, a new Scandal in the making. Someone is going to make lots money off this one too, just wait and see.

We must raise funds to build a real Gundam robot!

Everything is a UFO if you're bad at identifying flying objects

The knee jerk reaction would be to ridicule, but believe it or not there’s some very strange things going on in the skies. A bit of mystery is good for the soul. The fact that we all have to admit that we know nothing of this strange phenomena is both humbling and thought provoking.
Go easy on the little green men and tin foil headgear comments until you take a deep dive! Who knows? We don’t!

If it is possible to get 2 military aircraft to the location with sensors and recording capabilities, do so, but don't get too crazy as it will likely be a child's balloon or a $500 Chinese toy balloon.
Now, if the object changes direction in ways that winds wouldn't allow, then send the fighters out. Since it is likely to be Russian, Chinese or NK in origin if they didn't contact the civil aviation authorities, the security partners with Japan should be willing to help if they are in the area too.

This makes good sense. UAPs (as opposed to UFOs) could very well be something detrimental so identifying whatever it is as soon as possible is, especially if it's a weapon, seems like a good idea.

UFOs are a farce, aliens don't exist.. Please Japan, don't copy the same fear, alienation and paraphernalia of the stupid UFO subculture from "Good old US"..
Desert Tortoise
"UFO"s, or UAPs are in all likelihood of terrestrial origin and represent one or more nation's most advanced technology. The Nazis were experimenting with anti-gravity technology before and during WWII. It is not hard to imagine some of that tech found its way to the US and perhaps also the USSR after WWII and has been further developed since then.
To have sightings by lay people of your most advanced tech dismissed with a wave of the hand as the rantings of kooks, "just a balloon", conspiracy theories, etc., is most convenient for the nation that possesses that technology. It means nobody is taking your tech seriously and developing ways to match it or counter it.

UFO has nothing to do with aliens.
Just unidentified flying object and china and Russia are indeed main concern.

So, are the investigating group going to get paid by the government...........I know, stupid question, they will all get their pockets filled.
Desert Tortoise
Maybe. Maybe not. There was apparently a 1938 proposal to the US Government and specifically the Naval Research Laboratory by a private scientific firm, The Towsen Brown Foundation, to fund an investigation into the "fundamental interlocking relationship exists between the electrodynamic field and the gravitational field,
If the results confirm the evidence it is the further purpose of Project WINTERHAVEN to examine the physical nature of the basic electro-gravitic couplet and to foresee and develop possible long-range practical applications.
The project was to be called Project Winterhaven. The research quickly became classified and its results are not published.

Fast forward to the year 2016 and the US Navy files this unclassified patent:

From the patent:
Abstract
A craft using an inertial mass reduction device comprises of an inner resonant cavity wall, an outer resonant cavity, and microwave emitters. The electrically charged outer resonant cavity wall and the electrically insulated inner resonant cavity wall form a resonant cavity. The microwave emitters create high frequency electromagnetic waves throughout the resonant cavity causing the resonant cavity to vibrate in an accelerated mode and create a local polarized vacuum outside the outer resonant cavity wall.
As I said above, I believe most of what people attribute as UFOs or UAPs are advanced US tech.
