Can any one please tell my why Japan want to hold onto some very small uninhabited rock out crop many hundreds of miles away from the main island? does it hold any value? raw precious materials? other than seagulls what's there?

How naive. China under Xi Jinping won't settle for half. You don't understand the Chinese today. When they see something as sovereign Chinese soil they do not accept half. It is always all or nothing with them. They might pretend to negotiate but all they are doing is biding their time until they can take what they want by force, hoping the victim is blinded by their fake negotiations and doesn't see the attack coming. Views like yours start wars. They don't prevent them.
