What would be even funnier is if these two Asian countries' relationship improves and your own country has no excuse to send its military half way round the world stirring the pot and benefitting from other peoples' misery.

Wonder if Japan plans to send their new F-35 equipped Izumo to the review?

Would be even more funnier if the Chinese ships and overflying aircrafts "accidently-on-purpose" lock radars on the MSDF ships.

The US will never allow Abe to form friendly relations with China. The US is leading its so-called allies into a global conflict and is making Japan, as many other countries, into targets. Demand the removal of US bases from Japanese soil.

@Pukey2

Abe is smart to play nice with them,  but lets not get carried away.  Its absolutely necessary to know what CCP truly is, their intention, and that power is the the only language that they understand. Without a strong military deterrence, they would have another face. Just look at the south China Sea.

I'll take 'Things that would never happen' for $1000, Alex.

What would be funny is if China makes no issue out of the Japanese Naval Ensign like South Korea.

It would be nice if PM Abe will also let MSDF vessels visit ROC-TW.

After all , what are friends for?

If you send a ship you are faced with a difficult choice. Do you send a token something small (and perhaps mockable), or at the thought of being surrounded by large ships, something huge to brag about?

Or do you diplomatically choose something in-between, neither this nor that?

It is good to see the neighboring countries getting along peacefully.

Toshihiro, what drawback ? China opens the whole country to Japan and you are worrying open a ship, such a small mind is troubling.

@Goodlucktoyou: A fleet review is a form of a goodwill visit where a visiting navy would present their ships to the host nation to be "reviewed", pretty much like an open ship but for the host country's officials only. One drawback of this is that China is likely to learn and snoop around the visiting navies' ships and gain crucial information - pretty standard for any event like this.

What’s a “fleet review”?

Neighbors should visit each other often, including military visits.
