Total fantasy. The United States has no State or Territory that is threatening independence where the US is responding with a threat of military force.

Stop trying to justify China's behavior by comparing it to democratic countries.

Time everyone stopped doing that. It seems to me that have always been two China's since before I was born. Two governments ruling separate territories in different ways with different rules and laws and personal freedoms. That is the actual situation, not the mythical version the CCP would have everyone swallow.

One of them has ruled over all territories, that is ROC now ruling and running Taiwan. The other has never had jurisdiction of Taiwan since its rise to power.

Japan can take any stance it wishes, without coercion from CCP. It remains as always Japan's choice to make. Demands from China seem to arrive daily for many things these days. It is at the point where it has all become just white noise in the background that everyone ignores.

Total false commentary. The US is not pushing anyone to war. China is on the other hand agitating everyone in the region and pushing for war with Taiwan and the US with all of it's many allies which includes Japan. China under Jinping will not be satisfied until it has dominance of the entire world.

The Taiwanese are debating Statius quo versus unification. Independence isn’t realistic and considered extreme. The people who want that are like the right wing black van driving fanatics in Japan. It’s either the status quo or unification. There will not be war. You can count on it.

Taiwan is not important to China, but it is personally important to Xi. That is unfortunate, and counterproductive. A country of more than a billion souls has nothing to fear from a country of a few tens of millions of souls, and China should stop making a big thing out of nothing. China's efforts should be in making itself so attractive that Taiwan willingly wants to join China, not in threatening Taiwan and its other neighbors with military aggression.

China (Xi, really) is making a big mistake aligning itself with Putin. China is strong today because for decades it has been working closely with the Western Democracies to make both sides better. Aligning himself with a loser like Putin makes no sense, at all, and is making China a weaker country.

With only about 5% of Taiwan's population wanting unification, there is no debate concerning joining with the mainland. Overwhelmingly the consensus is to maintain the status quo where for all intents and purposes Taiwan is already independent. As more generations are born with freedom and no ties to the mainland, more younger Taiwanese are considering outright independence.

China is not offering anything to temp Taiwan to want unification with a repressive undemocratic regime, because it has nothing to offer that is better than what they have right now. The CCP has no clue how to change that situation as it is so set in its ideology that change is not considered. That leaves only force as the means of joining Taiwan to China. There is no other way for it to happen. And the world will not stand idly by and allow force to be used. Jinping will run out of patience at some point and what happens then will probably cost many lives.
