I fully support renewables, but think some of these numbers are bumped upwards with questionable methodology.

I'd happily fit solar panels on my house if the government gave me an interest free loan for fifteen to twenty years, plus a warranty on the panels. We live in a snow zone and no regular installer will give us a warranty, despite our roof being easily steep enough for snow to slide off. The warranty is normally 25 years on the panels and 10 years on the inverter, and protects you against faulty installation, manufacturing faults, hail, cables overheating or being chewed by wildlife, etc. These worry me much more than the 10cm snow that will build up before gravity pulls it off.

Perhaps if people would recycle properly more rather than toss their trash on the ground, over fences, in roadside bushes and out of car windows they could achieve that expediently.

Japan is lagging behind other countries on renewables.

Maybe but Japan consumes far less per-capita than any western European country and far, far less per unit of economic output than anywhere. Compared to the worst polluters per-capita and per unit of economic output, USA, Canada and Australia, Japan can be proud of what they have done until now.

Japan is a joke regarding eco. Coming here in 2008 and seeing everyone in a conbini given plastic bags, items double or triple wrapped in plastic. It took until 2019 until the Jgov started to educate people on the misuse of plastic bags. Now we have radioactive waste being openly dumped in the ocean from 2023, it's laughable to think of Japan being eco conscious.

China has more than 80 percent share of the world’s solar panel production and half of them are made in Xinjiang province possibly using Uighur slave labor. Anyone promoting solar power right now are assisting the genocide.

. . . Japan needs to be aware of the importance of insulating their buildings, from homes to public commercial buildings . . . so buildings are not wasting energy on air conditioning cooling and heating . . . .

More nuclear power please.

Solar panels on every house

America is a greater user of electricity and ac. More than the twice of the amount consumed but Japanese. Japanese electricity consumption is higher than the UK and France.

Where is your point? That’s simply in that relation because of the different population numbers.

Solar panels on every house

Very funny. That might just be sufficient for the automatic door , a welcoming lamp and the interphone of our 14-stories apartment building, if the sun shines, and if it is cloudy and darker it is also sufficient because that automatic door doesn’t work anymore and all people usually living in the house are excluded and can’t enter and use energy. lol

False. Per capita electricity consumption is as Zichi stated.

Very funny. That might just be sufficient for the automatic door ,

There's a new invention called a 'door handle' that you might be interested in.

We got ours from Solar Frontier - and one of the reasons we choose them was that they are made in Japan, or to be more precise - they weren't made in China.

@Sven Asai - Very funny. That might just be sufficient for the automatic door , a welcoming lamp and the interphone.

Ours is a 5KW system - so fairly average - yet produces double what we use year by year. So I think many underestimate their efficiency and potential.

Japan is eco in some issues, not eco in others.

On the whole, people live in cities in small apartments that need little heating or lighting (they are small) and commute to work by train. I live in the countryside and it is common here to drive everywhere. Two fillups a month, say 100l, is 800kWh of energy. That's double the electricity consumption of an average four person household in Japan. For many households in inaka, every adult has a car and does 10,000 km a year.

Plastic packaging is a problem of course, but more of a visible and annoying one than an actually significant one. Most ocean pollution from Japan is from fishing boats, who are also destroying the oceans through overfishing. Japanese corporations are driving deforestation in other countries. Farming in Japan uses world leading amounts of chemicals, which will all run off into the ocean. It is these serious problems people should focus on, not trivial stuff like "so many vending machines" or "they wrapped my banana" or disposable chopsticks. The main things to focus on for ordinary people are reducing car use, eating less meat, and flying less. It is not a major sin to use a plastic straw.

This useless fils a papa can start with banning the ridiculous plastic wrapping of all foods and in supermarkets. Japanese consumers seem to eat plastic

Working nearby. Cutting down on the excessive unessary light usage, reduce plastic usage, promote solar panels and cleaner cars. Stimulate green science and tech ideas towards everone.

Just a few ideas that will work. This will definatelly raise the happyness of the people as well.

Make those solar panels sexy!
