When it comes to whiny south Korea, I stopped reading. What's the point? They have no integrity. Because they don't, they will always swallow their own spit. Evert single time.

I can see only one thing leading the Japanese government to lift the export controls vis-a-vis South Korea: Pressure from the U.S. government to do so. But I don't see that coming. It seems clear to me that the South Korean government is leaning hard on the U.S. government to intervene and thus bring about Seoul's preferred outcome, but that is a flawed strategy. The U.S. plays hardball with Japan on certain issues (see what happened to Hatoyama Yukio when he tried to reopen negotiations about Futenma a decade ago), but on other issues that don't impinge directly on U.S.-Japan relations it is either neutral or indifferent.

When it appeared last month that the GSOMIA would be terminated, many people supporting the South Korean side somewhat defensively insisted that the pact's termination really wouldn't be that big of a deal. If that's really the case, well then the Japanese side likely sees little reason to concede on the export controls issue in order to save the GSOMIA.

Moon plan,

Get rid of the 2015 comfort woman deal. Get rid of it!!

Moon great idea is to combine Force Labor And Comfort Women in one giant payment package Called 1+1+a.

Translation= They want hundreds of millions and billions paid by Japanese government, again.. 1965 wasn't good enough.

Why get paid $9 million dollars for 9 comfort women, when you can Ask Japan to pay a lot A LOT MORE by mixing together comfort women and force labor.

Guess what.... The Victims dont like it or support it!! Even if you paid like a dumb fool those people will always complain for a better deal for more money from Japan.

What now S Korea?

Want to be on white list of previlage friends?

Dont treat Japan like an enemy. Don't lie and twist facts, don't go back on aggrements signed in the past!

Same respect you show China, the country who helped North Korea. Same respect you show Russia, You show Kim family, the US... Is the same respect you have to show to Japan.

Korean Moon wants to insult Japan, spit in front of them, but then be on white list of previlage friends.

Kind of a one sided relationship Korea.

@OssanAmerica

There are reports that Abe accused SK or violating NK sanctions. To be honest, I've found Japan's position characteristically ambiguous. The country cites "security concerns" and insinuations abound. So you tell me: When did Japan's concerns arise and what exactly prompted them? In short, what is Japan actually accusing South Korea of? SK can't address accusations if there are no clear accusations to address.

South Korea chose this path. Let South Korea have their fill of it!

Sad men tell no tales. If only the younger generation knew better they would not accuse others of revisionism

In fact, these "export controls" are retaliation against a ruling by the South Korean Supreme Court that said former slave laborers of the Japanese should be compensated.

Why then has South Korea refused to simply provide the export information as requested and remain on the White List? Reallu doesn't matter if they are a "retaliation" or not.

I meant never repeats past mistakes...

The past belongs in the past. It is good to know factual history so that a society never repeats the past and appreciates the cultural advances of today and hopes for even more improvements in the future. Japan and South Korea are both democratic and free and contributing to the world in positive and peaceful ways.

In fact, these "export controls" are retaliation against a ruling by the South Korean Supreme Court that said former slave laborers of the Japanese should be compensated. Thus, Abe, in his short-sighted, Pearl Harbor-like way, made an economic attack against a judicial ruling. That is all there is to it. If the Supreme Court had ruled otherwise all would be well right now.

Multiple people have repeatedly given solid proof of why South Korea was in the wrong here

Do mean proof that (1) shipments of materials to South Korean firms were being smuggled to North Korea, thus undermining Japan's national security? Or just proof that (2) Koreans are x stereotype?

Which one?

Japan is simply asking for the export information required from nations that are on it's White List. Neither Japan, the US or UN has charged South Korea with smuggling to North Korea, as far as I am aware. It is South Korea itself, by refusing to submit the requested information that raises the suspicion. So why are you even asking this question?

As for Koreans being X stereotype, the historical record of agreements and interactions between South Korea and Japan speaks for itself.

Of course Japan is "not considering removal of export controls" unless South Korea submits the requested export information necessary to be on Japan's White List.

That's all it would have taken rather than go crying to the UN, WTO, US, blackmaining the US over GSOMIA, boycotting Japanese beer, demonstrating, etc etc all of which don't address the issue. Under the Moon administration SK showed the whole world just how demented their anti-JP psychosis really is, the result of their post WWII historical revisionism.

Good, don't cave Japan.

Only when the South Korean government acts like responsible adults and not petulant, entitled brats, then and only then should the Japanese government remove those export controls. These controls are a privilege, NOT a right, and any other country would have done the same as Japan.

Don't let the usual crowd on here tell you otherwise. Multiple people have repeatedly given solid proof of why South Korea was in the wrong here, yet they either refuse to acknowledge the truths, or outright lie and create falsehoods to suit their own agendas.
