The law did not spell out how much money the new body would receive and, although it called for “cooperation from shareholders and other interested parties”, it did not say what this would mean in detail.

what kind of law is it? lawless law.

"created an entity" - why not just say it for what it is: a non-existent being which will have all the ignorance over the situation dumped on it, so that no one in government can be finger pointed!

Proving the lost revenue is not as easy as it may sound.

I wonder if that law is also there in 30 years when I get bone cancer. More details would be appreciated.

I hope the money goes to the right people. I wonder what qualifies as a nuclear victims... I guess only time will tell who the real victims are.

I think every person in Japan is a victim in one way or another. And, the full extent of the damage caused by the meltdown and fallout won't be known for another twenty to thirty years.

More info please Osakadaz. To what extent can we claim? My forced repatriation to save my kid's future?

It's an entity? Answers to no one and can appear or disappear at will.

I wonder if the entity will compensate people and farmers living within 30-80km of Daiichi and or the Tohoku and Kanto region who all received fallout and hotspots.

Everyone in Japan should be compensated. Start by eliminating the consumption tax.

Congratulations! I have not read the bill, but at least this is a good start. More details have to be spelled out to all Japanese people. Transparency.

Under the bill, which passed through the upper house

How come the bill is not open for the public to read? Is there any public website , so I can examine the bill? This is very important. Anyone from the JT?.

the law that the state is partly responsible because it has promoted nuclear energy for decades.

The J. Gov admitted the fault. J. Gov cannot file bankruptcy. So this is a victory for all victims.

The law did not spell out how much money the new body would receive

No ceiling for financial compensation should be allowed for property, casualty and liability claims.

NO CEILING, NO CEILING, NO CEILING, FOLKS. This is very important.

cooperation from shareholders and other interested parties

More spelled out details for the clause has to be discussed before becoming the law.

Again, I am waiting for your response.

We all have to read it before it becomes a law. Thanks.

The government has agreed to help TEPCO compensate evacuees and other victims, conceding in the law that the state is partly responsible because it has promoted nuclear energy for decades.

Good the government is acknowleging it's involvement, but putting the taxpayer on the hook is reckless. I mean, this is just a move to save TEPCO. In short-term, you will cheer and be happy that the government is going to help, but longterm, the price to pay will be astronomical. So, foresee major tax increases on the struggling economy.

I think we can all guess where most of the money go; down the toilet or into the pockets of shady dealers.

PURE UTTER BS! Now if the what they mean is ALL members of LDP & the bureaucrates are liquidating THEIR PERSONAL assets to help pay, I wud be happy. BUT what this BS really means is that YOU & I & the residents of Japan WILL PAY, the SOBs of the LDP or DPJ or the theiving bureaucrates WONT HAVE TO PAY A FRIGGING GOD DAMNED SINGLE SOLITARY YEN!

We are about to be screwed over AGAIN!

The government is expected to pitch in an initial 2 trillion yen in the form of special government bonds

Golly. It makes me wonder who will be happy to grab the notes that have very little financial value at all. Most people know that the government still has a huge leftover of debt incurred in the 1990s, and will impose more taxes on citizens in future to allot the budgets for recovery and re-construction.

The world has been estimating 50 trillion yen to restore the Tohoku right after the 3/11. It was not including the Fukushima Plant Meltdown to this figure. FYI

Japanese people are partially to be blamed to hand out blank checks to a Good-Time-Charlie LDP to run the J. Gov in the past.

Under the bill, which passed through the upper house, embattled operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and other nuclear power companies will also pay into the fund, which will then compensate the victims.

what a bunch of bs! tepco should be paying ALL! they just created this entity to hide how little tepco is actually paying. its all coming from our pockets!
