Japan fears North Korean Fat Man Kim Jong Un's nuclear threats? Yes.

Japan fears China's growing military, naval and air might? No.

China in her thousands of years history has never attacked any nation to conquer it. Tibetan people are closely related to their Chinese next door neighbour. And the country on the Roof of the World has not developed

with the world. Roads, railways and air travel are unifying the country. China is helping Tibet develope. The highest railway in the world from Shanghai to the Lahsa the Tibetan capital tells the story of Tibet taking its place in the conytemporary world.

Stephen, if you want to talk about the continuous history of China then you can't forget the Yuan dynasty and the invasions of Korea and Japan even though technically it could be argued that it was the Mongols and not Han Chinese. If the latter argument is taken then it would negate the idea of a continuous history. Also, don't forget the Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979. Granted, it wasn't a plan to "conquer" but it was still an aggressive incursion which resulted in bloodshed, my point being, not conquering doesn't justify any military incursion into another country's sovereign territory. As for Tibet, I get conflicting information about it, and don't solely subscribe to the CCP's party line.

Japan fears China's growing military, naval and air might? No.

Wrong. It clearly fears Chinese belligerence and threats and neverending military buildup.

China in her thousands of years history has never attacked any nation to conquer it.

Wrong. Tibet stand out in modern times as having been conquered and remains occupied to this very day.

Tibetan people are closely related to their Chinese next door neighbor. And the country on the Roof of the World has not developed

Obviously there remains nothing to justify Chinese occupation of Tibet and its people.

China is moving Han Chinese into Tibet to alter the population balance. The people of Tibet, like all sane people, want their freedom and independence back.

The actions of Japan in it's own defense is spurred on by China, North Korea and Russia all being unfriendly nations. China claims Japanese territory. Russia continues to occupy Japanese islands, while North Korea fires missiles and threats around the region now on an almost weekly basis. This would make anyone nervous and Japan takes these actions to try to give it the best chance of defending itself when or if the time comes. Japan has no other viable options.

"Japan plans new joint command to manage armed forces: report"

Perhaps they will locate this in the new 'Japan wing' of the Pentagon given that Nihon is now little but a cog in the U.S. 'defense' strategy as a front line base shielding and absorbing the destruction that might otherwise visit the mainland U.S. if the American ELITE, The Major Stockholders, finally overstep the limits of blind GREED.

It's sad that so few have any knowledge of U.S. history, say, 1871 when the U.S. first invaded Korea. And the entirety of American foreign policy since before that has been built on invasion or threat of invasion. Now, since the U.S. is LOSING the battle for the world's 'hearts and minds', it is directly threatening its more successful competitors and trying to stir up trouble wherever it can, for instance, in the heretofore stable detente between the PRC and the 'democracy' in name only 'Taiwan' and is a clear case of interfering in the internal affairs of another country. Or, if the U.S. is trying to support the 'independence' of a rebelling people in Taiwan, in Syria, what of Ukraine which presents the same political scenario. If the U.S. feels justified in sticking its nose into China's business, it must grant the same right to Russia, but, after invasion, HYPOCRISY is the second foundational leg of U.S. foreign policy. And the third is preaching FEAR both domestically and, as we see in Nihon, to its willing vassals and extorting enormous sums to enrich its weapons manufacturers. Any American who opens their mouths in complaint of others also shouts their own ignorance of their own country's sordid and almost 100% violent history in this world.

It's sad that so few have any knowledge of U.S. history, say, 1871 when the U.S. first invaded Korea.

What is even sadder is people attempting to use the history of one nation to justify horrific illegal actions taken today by another. The history of the US decades or centuries ago in no way can excuse or justify the actions of Russia's invasion of Ukraine today.

Has the US done things wrong in it's past. Yes, it has. It is not the only one, as most nations have histories that include tragedy or illegal or immoral actions. Russia gets no free pass to bring disaster, murder and deprivation to Ukraine today. In fact it is worse for happening today when those alive today can stop it. Those alive today can do nothing to alter history and terrible conflicts and invasions of the past.

Russia it seems is incapable of learning histories lessons and is making new horrors for tomorrows history books. It will not look good in history for its barbaric murdering actions in Ukraine in 2022 and beyond.

Hogwash. Malarkey. Taiwan is not an internal matter for any other nation including China. Two separate nations makes it an International issue. No matter how hard China attempts to portray it otherwise. The CCP has NEVER EVER had jurisdiction or control over Taiwan no matter how much it wants it, or how hard and loud it claims it. Nobody is believing China's lies and assertions. Taiwan determines what happens in Taiwan, not any other outside nation. It is so simple yet China seems unable to understand. I guess they are all just plain stupid. It is the only explanation.

Stephen Chin, I've travel extensively in China, including to Manchuria, Inner Mongolia, Tibet, and Xinjiang. It would be one thing if the PRC didn't subsidize Han immigration to these areas and allowed them to exist within the PRC as true self-governing areas; instead, Zhongnanhai is extremely sensitive about any expression of local custom and religion, which they see as "splitism." Just ask the Uyghurs jailed in Xinjiang.

This is good news. Japan needs to update and steamline the administration of their military forces in keeping with the current threats and alliances, both old and new.

The Pentagon's new military division of Japan.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

While the planet is nearing the tipping point of no return politicians still steer a course of division and conflict to profit from arms sales and divert attention from their inadequacies in taking care of their contstituents.

A lot of what's been occurring with the racheting up of regional tension originated with Abe's push to emphasize nationalism as a main focus of his policies, which resulted in things such as revised textbooks omitting information which aids in understanding other countries rather than viewing them as rivals, a record military budget for every year he was in office with a concurrent ramping up of military exercises, and a complete demonization of other countries in the media, especially China.

Last I checked Taiwan was returned from Japanese colonial rule to the Chinese 70+ years ago.

as part of a major defense overhaul in the face of China's increasing assertiveness over Taiwan.

And it remains under the control of the government ROC that it was returned to. Not the CCP.

Check the facts-

US sponsored Chiang Kai shek ran away to Taiwan after being trounced by Mao in China, despite having American weapons, fighter jets etc at his disposal.

Chiang and Shanghai mafia cohorts then set up shop with US support in Taiwan to be a thorn in the side of China and provide future opportunities to provoke a conflict which would enable the US to complete what it had originally sought to do via Chiang, as it currently does now now with South Korea and Japan; exercise US hegemony to further US interests.

Ever talk to anyone from Taiwan? Most adults live with their parents, because they HAVE TO due to the fact that the average salaries are barely enoough to pay rent. That is the magical reality of gangster democracy in Taiwan, and what certain people are saying we need to commit billions of dolllars to fight and die for.

You checked wrong. Taiwan was returned to the Republic of China, which controls Taiwan to this day.

The PRC (China) did not even exist until 4 years after WWII ended.

Further confirming that Japan is in America's pocket, just like the EU.

Further confirming that Japan is in America's pocket, just like the EU.

No, but it is confirmation that alliances bug the crap out of China and their fan boys, because it make Chinese attempts to coerce much more difficult and less likely to succeed.

China wants to deal one on one so its power can achieve results in its favor. Something that does not work when dealing with groups of like minded allied nations working and standing together. No sympathy for China or its child like attempts to portray everyone as being in the pocket of the strongest opponent China has. Sour grapes from the nation with very few friends and no real allies except for North Korea, and one questionable "special friend" in Russia.

It still do not help Japanese, when it enemies nukes are only less than 10 minutes after blast off that can reach Tokyo

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Just like the sands of time,so are days of Japanese lives in the hands of it enemies, for every 100 miles from where Japanese enemies launch their missile towards Japan,it represents one minute of times that missile will arrive in Japan, most missile launch against Japan will arrive, before a train from Shinjuku station reach Ginza station, this how fast missile could arrive in Japan, in a war, faster than a train ride

A backwards and incorrect assessment of the current situation. It is China that rocks the boat wanting control and power and it has no qualms about turning peace into war and terror like its special friend Russia is doing in Europe.

The US supports peace and freedom around the world and if not for them the world would be shackled under the influence of one or two individuals who wield power for themselves alone.

World war will come because of China and Russia, and blaming the US for opposing their will is fooling nobody. China and Russia are plain evil, ruled by despots posing as Czars and Emperors who lead for life. If they ever had the guts to let their people decide through a free election they would be voted out immediately.

The West follows freedom while the Autocratic powers want repression, suppression and complete control over the people at all times with no dissent allowed.

Fans of China and Russia should move there. The fact they dont speaks volumes.
