It was these words of yours from your earlier post, not this very different reply, that I found both false and insulting.

What is insulting about that? I am from a third world country and I am telling the truth based on what I see and the people I know. I live near Japanese industrial factories, and I've seen how terrible they compensate these people. I don't blame JAPAN for it, i blame these Japanese corporations, and this is what Abe trying to bring in our countries.

, most of our people still love Japan. We, ordinary Vietnamese people, don't play political games. We love (Japan) and hate (China) clearly.

I agree with you on this one, I love Japan and her people, that is why I am against what Abe is doing because it's not really beneficial to both countries (JP and Vietnam). Normal Japanese, Vitenamese, Filipinos don't want political games either, that is why I am opposing to poiticians like Abe who are using the funds for his politicking where these money is supposed to be used for the normal people's needs. I am criticizing Abe's generosity regardless of Japan's financial problems. There is always a better way to team up against China's bullying but Abe should prioritize his people first!

Japan has been doing this way before with their businesses in third world ASEAN countries. All they want is cheap labor, doesnt provide progress at all

I have no problems with Japan for Japanese people first. Without more help, or even no previous help, from Japan, most of our people still love Japan. We, ordinary Vietnamese people, don't play political games. We love (Japan) and hate (China) clearly.

what businesses will Japan get from Vietnam other than cheap labor? For you not to be labeled simplistic, I guess you should study some basic economics about international trade and investment. There are a few good posts up here about how ODA funds work, read, think, digest, and you can find some answer to your question.

Not only are you guys cynical disparagers but also ignorant fools with simplistic brains that must be the size of a grape

I don't deny that our relationship with Japan is a mutually beneficial one, but we know that we have received far more from Japan than Japan has from us. Without Japan's generous help, our economy would not have made as much progress as it has. And for this, we are grateful to the Japanese people; we feel indebted. In return, not only will we repay their loans, but we will also give Japanese companies more business opportunities over others as our economy keeps growing – fair enough!

Thanks for your insult! Easy for you to say when you are just on the leeching end just receiving these billions and when it's not your money being spent. I don't have issues with it If these funds and ideas are coming directly from any private sectors without pressures from the government. Try to see it from a point of view of a Japanese tax payer especially the ones who live in Tohoku and Kumamoto. Your hometown is still far away from getting rebuilt, you are still living in temporary housing, the threat of Nuclear power plant remains unsolved, the future of your economy is uncertain and spiraling down, un-employment rate is rising, no salary increases for a long time now, the pension is having issues and yet your Prime Minister is giving away Billions of Money without thinking of the risks! The agenda is very clear, alliance against China! I have less issues with this thing with Vietnam as Abe is more honest on his agenda and at least what you guys received were "Loan", unlike with Philippines when he is trying to sugar coat it as "Financial Aid to Help solve the country's issue" but obviously he is just courting Duterte because he is the guy who became an ally of China. That's why he got more (8 Billion). So If Vietnam wants to leech more money from Japan? Try to make friends with China, I bet you guys will get more. Poor Japanese tax payers though paying for Abe's generosity. Yup indeed you received a lot, but how about the Japanese people? what indeed will they get out of these, what businesses will Japan get from Vietnam other than cheap labor? Will these businesses be really significantly beneficial to Japan and sustain their needs? This is a very big gamble and very poorly analyzed because again this is all about the alliance against China.

@Saiko, I'm with you.

In a very rough explanation, US and EU printed around 3 times more money of theirs, US$ and Euro in last decades to deal with "Lehman Shock" and other things like government debts they could never pay back. The amount they printed is BIG. really BIG.

But Band of Japan didn't. We didn't print.

As the result, JP Yen became much rare against US$ and Euro. Since the beginning of 2nd Abe administration BOJ is working hard to print a lot of JP Yens but still not enough to match US$-Euro-JP Yen balance. This is the time Japan should keep doing big QE along with proceeding other policies Abe brought up.

@Rana.... You're not the first person to say my idea is stupid... and I don't blame you, it is crazy. Crazy to think it could be that simple. But no one has said why it cannot be done.

ifd66 + noypikantoku + all the fools who gave you thumbs up

sorry to so cynical - but the roads and bridges there paid for by Japanese ODA = easier access to rainforest timber. New patrol boats = access to shrimp/tuna etc?

Not only are you guys cynical disparagers but also ignorant fools with simplistic brains that must be the size of a grape. Rainforest timber! What timber? We don't have timber for export; we have to import timber to manufacture wooden furniture for export. Access to shrimp/tuna? Hilarious! It's our marine products export companies that have been desperate to enter the Japanese market. It's not easy to gain entry into one of the pickiest markets in the world in terms of quality inspection. So many countries have shrimps/tuna wanting to sell to Japan, from nearby Taiwan, the Philippines, to Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, to even as far away as Panama. It's the BUYER's market! Japan is in the position to choose which countries to buy shrimps/tuna from; Japan does not need to lobby for access to shrimps/tuna.

"Roads and bridges there paid for by Japanese ODA ..." and "The money then gets funneled right back to Japan." Fair exchange! They got the money back but left us with top quality systems of high ways, road, bridges, tunnels, and other industrial complexes that have modernized our country.

Who would have built things for us free of charge? By the way, I am curious to know which country, (yours?), would have been so nice as to have advanced us with ODA without getting "the money funneled right back to its land"? Recently France provided us with a tiny amount of loan to make train cars for a new elevated route in Hanoi, on the very condition that the train cars be ordered from a French company! That's the rule of game, which we accept. In fact, we would rather have the top-of-the-world Japanese quality over anyone else's for our infra structure.

If you guys can read Vietnamese, here's the same news as reported on Japan today:

No single word negative from any Vietnamese readers. Everyone is grateful, appreciative, happy, or at least friendly, unlike the disparaging dolts above here and maybe under this, those who were/are just too quick to bash but too slow to grasp.

SaikoPhyscoJAN. 17, 2017 - 11:52AM JST Just keep printing it Japan.... why not, the Yen, no how matter how much they print... isn't getting any weaker. If I were head of the BoJ... I'd print Trillions of Yen and buy Gold and Silver with it... why not buy a tangible commodity with it? You buy yourself into the richest nation in the world on the back of a printing press.

I wonder if you went to high school.

Japan has proven to the US it can be trusted and counted on to help as long as the people in Japan are allowed too show them it can be done.

When pigs learn to write mate!!

Strangerland

Japan usually puts a requirement on these pledges that the money spent must be used to hire Japanese companies. The money then gets funneled right back to Japan, and the taxes get paid to the government. So it's not as bad as it sounds.

So meaning to say that in the end of the day it's just the Japanese companies benifiting from these and Abe just made it sound good for countries like Phil. and Vietnam? It's not helping the economy of these countries at all then as he promised, and there is nothing new to this, Japan has been doing this way before with their businesses in third world ASEAN countries. All they want is cheap labor, doesnt provide progress at all. So I think better to just leave these countires alone or be a TRUE fair Partner to them rather than acting helpful but in the end there is really a hidden agenda. Just milking these countries and Not helping at all.

Another source says:

The six new coastguard patrol boats had a total value of 38.5 billion yen ($338 million) and Vietnam would get a concessional loan to pay for them, a Japanese official said. No timeline for delivery has been discussed yet. Japan had previously agreed to provide six old patrol boats to Vietnam.

If the US is seeking bilateral agreements, and fair for both, then allow the Japanese military to train on a US base. We are allies afterall. The US trains in Japan with numerous bases, why not say let Japanese troops be based in say California, and train. This way if war and the Pacificist Constitution is changed, then Japan can immediately help its US inside their own territory. It is time for both countries to really work together and trust one another. Japan has proven to the US it can be trusted and counted on to help as long as the people in Japan are allowed too show them it can be done.

Good on him, Vietnam will be a future economic powerhouse with huge room for growth. Japan getting in early will go a long way in securing its economic future

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The patrol boats will be constructed in Japan and the 1.3 billion yen is a loan meaning it will be paid back with interest added.

It's never going to be FREE so why are people complaining?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Japan, if gets short in money, all it has to do is St' buying US debt bond for a couple month. Copy whatChina did. And just pretend shortln cash about one month

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Gee I wonder if abesan can give me a few million yen...

He might. Just tell him what you are going to do with China.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@Strangerland... if what you wrote is true than it makes a whole lot of sense ( two birds one stone )

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Why don't you help your own people? Giving all this "aid" away doesn't help anyone in Japan

6 ( +6 / -0 )

It should be interpreted as Japan's investment and if not, it gives chances China to expand their influences to the country.

Sounds like the start of an Asian Cold War

This is past getting out of hand here. I truly feel sorry for the refugees that live within the country. The population here should be more than pissed off at all this aid flowing overseas.
