How’s the shopping in Central Asia?

This is Russia and China's backyard.

He won't get far.

This is a very good move, along with recent, similar outreaches by India, the EU, and the US.

With Russia's regional influence massively declining due to Putin's disastrous Ukraine folly, and huge suspicions over China, it's natural for Central Asia to want more reliable partners.

That is an interesting theory. My takeaway from this long form interview of Kazakhstan's President Tokayev last year during his visit to Beijing gives me a very different impression. Tokayev speaks fondly of his years as a student and diplomat living in China and the importance of China to the economic development and prosperity of the region. Kazakhstan is far and away the most important country in Central Asia. https://youtu.be/YkSTOwRX2js?si=GQPBuJUvpw2dtnUY

A faceless bureaucrat no one has ever heard of is hardly a serious diplomatic initiative.

Important to note the article mentions the previous PM canned his trip to the same region with the convenient excuse of an earthquake.

Japan is so late to the party that it’s almost time to go home.

Better to bolster present ties instead of taking trips that won’t end in anything productive.
