Since they have to choose sides, the Donald picked the virus.

WHO leadership so far = -$9 trillions and counting. If this is how Abe spends his country's money, perhaps Japan can afford a US tarriff on cars after all.

I don't like Trump, his beef againts China is probably just a facade, but today's politicians are all afraid of saying bad things about China, because their corporate overlord wouldn't like to lose footing in the Chinese market.
Alfie Noakes
Good for him. Like many I've been very critical of Abe but praise where it's due, this is good. Responsible leaders have to stand up and support science, logic and common decency in these troubled times. The WHO may have its leadership problems currently but it has performed heroically in fighting disease all over the globe in the last 70 years.
bass4funk
No, because if it were, he wouldn’t have defunded the W.H.O.
Not Trump, this is why China is so ticked off. Trump didn’t kiss their rear and called them out and they don’t like it one darn bit.

China needs to be held accountable for its lies - but now is NOT the time. You have thousands and thousands dying everyday and an ever-increasing number of new cases, and the man-child in the white house is more concerned about turning his press conferences into election rallies. The WHO has also helped to eradicate other diseases in the past and is vital in many parts of the world, despite its murky links with the Chinese government.

@bass4funk
So Trump's biggest achievement is ticking off the entire planet?
What planet does the US live on?
Chip Star
To be fair, Donny’s tucked off a majority of Americans also. Exactly what the president should do.
bass4funk
He doesn’t and shouldn’t care and the majority of Americans agree with the President.
More collectivism? Please!
bass4funk
They actually do.

Nor do you have to counter the claim or you have some liberal one-sided stats that interviewed 1000 people?
bass4funk
You just said they don’t, so basically you have zero evidence either. Lol

The WHO needs a change of leadership otherwise it is just the CCP’s puppet...

When Ivanka/Trump Inc sever their dozens of business ties with members of the Chinese Communist Party I might start to believe Trump's 'beefs' against China are real. But given how often Trump flip-flops and 'intentionally misinforms', I don't expect they'll do so.

China needs to pay Japan lot of money for this mess it created.

China will have to compensate the entire world for their virus and the shameful disregard its people have for spreading their virus to other countries
gogogo
The WHO does not have this sort of power.
Tom Doley
Not surprised. Abe must back WHO unconditionally because the latter agreed to the reclassification of Diamond Princess at the former’s begging.

"China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!"
Donald J. Trump, January 24th.

So, Abe doesn't want to copy the Donald, and blame the WHO for doing its job?
Viktor Cernatinskij
In early January WHO had to order China to close and not let anybody out until the virus is contained...
In early January WHO had to order Japan and all other countries to close and not let anybody in until virus is contained...
In early January Japan and all other countries had to close and not let anybody in until virus is contained...
Elementary things that WHO and the governments of almost all countries failed to do to avoid all this...
The incompetence of WHO and governments killed and continue to kill lots of inocent people...
Now, some incompetent leaders like Trump blame the incompetent WHO, and some incompetent leaders like Abe support the incompetent WHO...
The virus is having a very strong side effect: exposing the worldwide incompetence and uselessness of WHO and governments...
Maybe is time for all the voters in the world to start thinking better and elect smart competent governments, that will support a smart and competent WHO????...

Abe has finally differentiated himself from the Donald Trump style of fighting COVID-19. He is right to maintain support for WHO
OssanAmerica
Abe is playing a clever hand, remaining a "friend" to Xi Jing Ping while the rest of the world would like to see him and the CCP go to hell.

"Since they have to choose sides, the Donald picked the virus."
konjo4u, yet another "0" or "1", binary-type thinker? Donald Trump is very stupid and he really sucks but your message has a lie of a false dichotomy saying that there are only 2 teams: 1) the VIRUS, and 2) the W.H.O. which combats the virus. This could not be further from the truth.
Trump is a moron but that does not make the WHO automatically great because Trump thinks that they're stupid.
Trump is defunding the WHO (or maybe just withholding payments, sadly) because they lied to the world and praise China for all their screw ups with the virus. That is completely mind blowing.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Trump may be broken but he's got this idea correct.
Maybe you don't think so, since you think the WHO is actually able to fight the virus. On the contrary, the virus wouldn't even be 1/10 as bad as it was, if the WHO actually did its job.
mmwkdw
Fighting now over the WHO is bad timing, however, after we've got this virus under control, then clearly some investigations need to be conducted. There's a couple of questions:
1) Did the WHO purposely cowtie to China and not seek to ask/demand answers to the sensible questions others were making
2) Is the leader Tedros Adhanom being influenced directly by China - clearly the total exclusion of Taiwan would be one of those things to investigate.

I think China should be praised and compensated for the losses sustained from closing the cities trying to delay and prevent more virus to spread across the world causing even more damages. For those countries which took steps to protect their citizens early sustained less damages and deaths, Blaming and smearing China will only expose their governments' incompetence and lack of regard to the value of human life.
