Such donations are prohibited by election law.

Yet the bribery and corruption just continue to flourish as there aren’t any real penalties for breaking the law for the elite in Japan

can anyone explain why donating money to politicians is legal?

The LDP needs to rewrite its constitution on donations.

It's pretty obvious.

Right at the end '...receiving funds from entities that were doing business with the state before a national election. Such donations are prohibited by election law.'

Now, will those that broke the law get punished? Or is this 'election law' a meaningless made up law ?

At least donations are reported, isn't that quite a progress? You always expect too much or the maximum. That's surely impossible to reach.

A regular theme within the LDP

Several members of Kishida's new cabinet have admitted to having inappropriately handled donations..................Hang on, they must have known this before accepting a cabinet post, yet they chose to ignore the law and get promoted. Wow!!! the level of corruption is alive and well and will continue to carry on, when there are such 'Very Honest'.../s politicians in office.

Arrests? Jail time? Convictions? Heads rolling? No? Any form of proper punishment? Cockroaches.

for those railing against the pollies and all, calling for accountability, punishment, sacking, whatever.... what's wrong with you all? you obviously missed:

"An official at Kishida's office told Kyodo News that the mistakes will be corrected."

it was just mistakes.... honest! (⌒▽⌒)

Gee…… I am shocked.

Japanese government being corrupt with funds?

Who could have seen this coming?

Oh me, oh my.

Oh look, toothpaste on sale.

Donations should be to the party and not the individual and limited in size.

Japanese politicians, for all their faults have strict guidelines regarding campaigns, and in particular money. Politicians can and do get nailed for the smallest of things, like handing out paper-fans to potential voters, and if a money trail can be found linking Kishida directly to any of this, his days are numbered!

When you know you won’t be taken to task for it and won’t be called out for saying “no comment or I don’t remember” why not do it?
