we'll start thinking about this situation.....

While far modest than in other advanced countries, Japan's consumer inflation exceeded the central bank's 2% target for three straight months in June due largely to rising fuel and global raw material costs.

‘Modest is not really the word to use, Japan excludes food and fuel from its consumer Inflation calculation other advanced countries don’t as food and fuel are items consumers ….consume? So a balanced calculation would put Japans inflation much higher. More government misinformation.

"I will order additional, seamless steps to be taken focusing on energy and food prices, which make up most of the recent rise in inflation," Kishida told reporters.

…..

Sure he will.

Another suit in a long line of suits without an original thought between them-rinse and repeat…

They’d better be huge steps then, given his disastrous cabinet ‘reshuffle’.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Friday he will instruct his government to come up with additional measures to cushion the economic blow from rising energy and food prices.

Some countries have stepped in with tax cuts on essential items and rebates and direct support to consumers.

if inflation continues to rise, … an extra budget could be compiled later this year

Well gee, that is sure to help.

Remind me - wasn’t the inflation intentional?

Kuroda started out from a position - backed by the government - that he would achieve 2% inflation.

So, now that we have it… the government wants to spend more money to solve the problem they wanted in the first place?

Gee thanks.

How about temporarily cutting consumption tax on FOOD for example?

Not exactly rocket science.

Exactly!

A good example of this is at airports in Japan where there has been a massive hiring of staff (many Chinese) to deal with the Corona ‘crisis’

There are so many that they literally form human lines…

The quickest would be to suspend sales tax on food and essential items.

The quickest would be to suspend sales tax on food and essential items.

Not so straightforward.

Japan has terrible public finances; your move would make them even worse.

This could see the yen drop even further / faster, paradoxically pushing up food and “essential” item prices further.

We need to have prudent government, and probably therefore, much less government interference and control over all aspects of the economy.

oh look. More talk

thats all it will be, lip service.

nothing more, nothing less

Kishida told a news conference that the government will tap reserves for the time being to pay for the additional steps.

This is a completely insincere gesture, two years too late; the horse of need long ago bolted and they’re only doing it because the litany of failure stemming from their initial tight fisted ketchiness, a tanking currency, family murder-suicides, real people enduring real pain, has come boomeranging back on them.

These taxes are regressive, full stop, and the LDP would rather funnel money to Japan Inc. than offer relief to working families, as other more socially responsible governments have done.

Kill the tax on food! Mindless idiots.

“Come up with, utter, promise, study the impact, recommend”, he should be a school teacher. He will print more money, which future generations will pay. ¥1000million debt per person is low guys…

All talk and no action, Kishida.
